Chapter 1248: Chapter 344: Gathering of Generals
The final day had finally arrived.
In the gloomy Bastille underground prison, the only way to accurately calculate time was by the delivery of meals.
The temporary jailers of the Flying Camel Army only provided the Giants with two meals a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. The portions of food and water were clearly under strict control, just enough to meet each prisoner’s minimal physiological needs.
Liu Zhenshan had gone two days and nights without a drop of water, yet he had been whipped several times. The Mainz Archer who served the meals thought the gaze of this Beamon Shaman was far too arrogant. That look gave the proud Mainz Archer the absurd illusion that he was the one imprisoned.
"When exactly will your Caliph Abdullah grant me an audience?" Liu Zhenshan asked the Mainz Archer who came to deliver the meal in the morning. His lips were dry and cracked, and each word scraped out of his throat like a spoon across a cast-iron pot.
"What’s the rush? Heading to Po Yi Road to be reborn?" The temporary jailer mocked with a sneer, relishing in insulting the once invincible Beamon Shaman: "Now it’s the Puh-Pen Festival. His Highness the Caliph has to fast and pray during the day. Where would he find the time to meet with a lowly captive like you immediately? Don’t worry, before you enter the palace this evening, I might, depending on my mood, give you some food and water, but that will depend on your performance!"
The group of Mainz Archers who accompanied the delivery burst into loud laughter.
Liu Zhenshan squinted his eyes, emitting a ray of unwavering defiance.
"Look at that! That look in your eyes again! I’m utterly sick of you!" the temporary jailer teased the ’little mouse’ before him: "I hear every Beamon from the Aegean Continent is a tough nut to crack. Beg me, just ask, and I’ll give you a sip of water."
"I beg you, please give me a sip of water..." Liu Zhenshan was surprisingly compliant.
"I thought you were made of iron, turns out you can’t hold out after all!" The jailer mocked further, encouraging a round of exaggerated and forced laughter from the other Mainz Archers.
"Please give the water to my pet," Liu Zhenshan suggested, nudging towards Guoguo hanging from the gallows and the small parrot on his shoulder.
"We’ll put that on your tab. I didn’t specify when I’d give it to you," the jailer said, rather pleased with his quick wit. He smirked cunningly, waved his hand to the other Mainz Archers, and with a swish of his hips, left the underground prison.
The last Mainz Archer to leave the cell was a girl, a Desert Elf still bearing traces of youth on her face. Her eyes shimmered with the sympathetic heart characteristic of a young girl. As she passed by Liu Zhenshan, she hesitated, noticing his parched lips. The Desert Elf girl paused, and in the moment her comrades stepped through the prison door, she quickly uncorked the water bag and poured a mouthful of water into both Liu Zhenshan’s and Guoguo’s mouths, then scurried out of the cell door in a fluster.
Liu Zhenshan’s gaze lingered on the strands of sandy brown hair that floated away, his eyes transitioning from cold sharpness to softness. He passed all the water in his mouth into the upturned beak of the small parrot.
With a loud "clang," the heavy cell door closed, followed by the sound of keys turning in locks.
A series of loud cracks from joints sounded.
Liu Zhenshan, holding onto the chains, performed two pull-ups and a somersault to land on the ground, moving his wrists and ankles. The small parrot stood on his shoulder, dutifully preening his punk-style long hair.
In the dark dungeon, countless pairs of shiny eyes peered through the bars at Liu Zhenshan.
Anyone would have the same expression upon seeing a Beamon Shaman locked in massive shackles and chains strong enough to subdue a rhino, then escape as if by magic.
Meanwhile, Guoguo lowered her head and exhaled a frosty breath, aiming it right at the thick bundles of hemp ropes. A series of frost crests cracked and formed on the palm fibers. Guoguo sniffled, took a deep breath, and puffing out her belly, the tightly frozen ropes burst apart, hardening into fragmented chunks. Guoguo, like a ripe grape, dropped down from the air, rolled agilely upon hitting the ground, and wobbled up on her large ears.
"Tan Lang..." Ji Sikaibi, the Giant girl, timidly pressed against the bars, calling out to Liu Zhenshan in a low voice.
"Your Majesty!" Victoria, the Cat-Woman, and Liwei, the Fox-Woman, one standing and the other kneeling, watched tearfully at their kingdom’s spiritual representative, the Shaman of Divine Songs, as stark new and old whip scars crisscrossed his robust chest.
"Sorry to have worried everyone!" Liu Zhenshan walked into the cage area, greeting everyone politely. His stride was lively, while Guoguo, trailing behind him, struggled to catch up.
"What is this..." Kien, the Clay-foot Giant chieftain, gaped foolishly at the huge chains still splayed in a "big" shape on the stone wall and then back at Liu Zhenshan.
"In the Emerald Realm, we have a basic training course called the ’Bone Shrinking Technique,’" Liu Zhenshan shrugged his shoulders: "This skill originated from the Sea Clan Octopus Warriors. Coincidentally, I have a former Seia Empire Forbidden Army instructor under my command. So, I’ve learned a little about this technique as well. While I can’t pass through a vent, let alone the hole of a gold coin, slipping out of shackles is a piece of cake."
