Chapter 1168: Chapter 314 Death Road_4
"How many have returned?" Liu Zhenhan bellowed, tearing at his throat; he could see that only part of his air force had returned, all of them Two-Headed Chimera riders.
"Two hundred! The rest are still locked in a bloody battle with the Mulanese!" A Cicada person closest to the boss held up two fingers and also shouted desperately, the answer sounding faint as a mosquito’s murmur amidst the vast clamor on the ground.
"Remember my words! Save the sacrifices first, then the most outstanding warriors! Rescue as many as possible!" Liu Zhenhan felt as though his vocal cords had torn and bled. After he roared these words, his throat felt as though a branding iron had been jammed into it.
The surrounding Worm People seemed to understand and nodded vigorously.
Liu Zhenhan’s throat was so sore he could no longer speak; his chewed tongue was painfully wrenching. He could only gesture desperately to the airmen, pointing to Qian Qian and her uncle’s family----------------these four Pheasant people were beginning to descend, their colorful wings no longer as powerful as in the beginning. If this continued, they would eventually plummet into the sea of ants and be devoured without a trace.
The Winged Pegasus riders discarded their Metal Totem Poles, unbuckling the rattan armor from their mounts and themselves, hoping to lighten the load in this way. Neither Cicada nor Butterfly people took their former seats on the saddles, all maintaining a flying posture voluntarily. Four Chimaeras met up with Qian Qian and her uncle’s family, creating a platform in the sky for these four brave sacrifices.
As a natural-born Soul Singer, enhanced doubly by the power of the singing regalia, Liu Zhenhan could use the "Sacrificial War Song" no more than six times, an absolutely extraordinary number! This top-tier war song of Shaman Wei An’s level, even a genius like Helen had not yet learned to use it to this date. Currently, there were only three head priests, the elder of Caiyu City, Horielle, and the uncles and aunts of Qian Qian, plus a Moer, capable of using this war song. Among them, Moer could only use it once, while others among the head priests, even managing to use it thrice, were already at the end of their strength, barely hanging on in desperation.
If all the Beamon warriors could bunch up together, focusing the splendid halo power of the eight priests capable of chanting the "Sacrificial War Song", a one-time coverage should not be a big issue. However, the situation was too terrible now. The original Beamon infantry formation had split into a dozen big and small pieces amid the chaos of avoiding the rampaging ant hordes; moreover, among the three head priests, Qi Dan had completely lost his wits, Elder Pauleta of the Naidi Tribe was missing, dead or alive, and only Taige Clan’s head priest Lucio, surrounded by the protective care of five hundred ghost legionnaires, tiger warriors, and Haus Bowmen, was scattering the War Song Halo, making a last-ditch struggle.
Watching the gradually shrinking circles of Beamon warriors, each priest capable of bestowing the Sacrifical Halo endured tremendous sorrow and helplessness, trying their best to apply the War Song Halo to slightly larger Beamon formations.
They had to cross more than two miles to reach the ancient city ruins! Whether relying on the Sacrificial Halo could get them through the sea of ants was something no one knew!
The Beamon warriors, enveloped in the green light of the Sacrificial Fire, began their frantic rush towards the ancient city ruins. One infected another, and even the Beamon warriors not blessed with the War Song Halo stepped resolutely onto this path towards rebirth. Among them, anyone who fell would never be able to rise again, but this was the only glimmer of hope, and not a single warrior wished to die such a humiliating death!
Liu Zhenhan didn’t care anymore, he summoned the Sacrificial Halo with all his might, wherever there was no halo, he smashed one down!
Once again, a huge wave was stirred up in the sea of ants on the earth; mud and red ants were flung high into the sky by the gigantic objects rising up, and after splashing back down, they landed just on top of the heads of the Giant Ants burrowing out from the ground!
These were clearly not ants! They were blood-red stallions!
If not for the distinctive four-segmented limbs of these Giant Ants, if not for that bony exoskeleton and the enormous compound eyes, Liu Zhenhan would have definitely thought these were fine stallions from the grasslands. They possessed heads like Seahorses, but on their lower jaws were sharp, open bone knives, looking even more ferocious and bloodthirsty!
In that brief moment, atop the vast rocky plain, at least thousands of such gigantic ants appeared! Countless red ants spontaneously formed towering mounds, clearing a path for these ferociously savage giant ants.
Without the flurry of a horse’s mane but equally swift, their hooves barely touched the ground as the giant ants’ mandibles clicked in time with drumbeat footsteps, producing a symphony of clashing iron. Their target was the Beamon warriors, their bodies ablaze with the Sacrificial Fire! They exhibited a precision that surpassed the most disciplined cavalry, forming a synchronized V-shaped charge that directly blocked the road to the ancient city.
Prince Kahn, his golden helmet removed and golden hair fluttering in the wind, wielded his massive sword and slashed through the giant ants standing in his way like the wind, leaving them crushed into pulp and gore!
Following close behind him, the yaks serving as Heavy Cavalry rolled over the horizon like thunder, their wheel-like axes spinning and chopping left and right. Even when occasionally toppled by a hefty charge from the giant ants at their flank, they did not forget to plunge their huge axes into the ants’ heads, cleaving both the ants’ heads and the mandibles that nearly severed their bodies in two!
These giant ants could spray powerful formic acid, emanating waves of olive-brown liquid akin to a tidal surge. Although its range was merely ten steps, it dissolved steel upon contact with the Beamon warriors’ flesh, emitting fierce bubbles and green smoke, the pungent odor of char turning this land of death into literal Hell!
Once more the earth began to squirm!
"Crack-ka-la..."
Ear-shattering booming echoed back and forth as though mountains were collapsing and rivers reversing their flow!
One after another, giant flying ants with wings the size of Larza Beasts took to the sky amidst sand swirling in the air! Though their numbers were few, their breathtaking presence was truly alarming!
Their bodies were covered with disgusting scars and they sported long spear-like proboscises. Their horse-like appearance made one wonder at first glance if they were a variant of the Winged Pegasus!
"Feilengcui air forces, everyone retreat! Retreat now!" Liu’s thunderous roar nearly synchronized with the blood spurting out of him! His veteran’s sixth sense told him that what would appear next was undoubtedly the ant colony’s queen!
Because in Beamon history, the members of the Ant Tribe who served as the queen’s personal guard were indeed flying ant warriors!
