Chapter 1151: Chapter 308: Immortal Fruit_2

The hippo poets responded with a nod, spat in their palms, and swung their giant axes in a frenzy. Beamon strongmen and Difeng Giants brought over huge wild grapevine ropes and securely tied up the Giant Cactus. They had thought it would take some effort, yet it turned out that only the outer skin of the cactus was as tough as wood and stone while the inside was soft and juicy. The hippo poets didn’t get to swing their axes many times before it came crashing down with a "crack". The Beamon soldiers and the Hellfires let out a unified roar, all pulling on the giant rope, and slowly laid the Giant Cactus on the ground.

The marching Beamon soldiers passed by the bored gods of the Summer Palace without so much as a sidelong glance. Aside from the clinking of armor and the heavy footsteps, not even a cough could be heard in the impressive procession of the Beamon Regular Army. The difference in professionalism between amateurs and professionals was strikingly clear.

"Bravo!" Liu Zhenhan plucked an Immortal Fruit the size of a fist from the top bunch of flowers on the cactus, tore off its bumpy black and red skin, and took a vicious bite of the white flesh inside. He was nearly overwhelmed by the sweetness, as the unique scent of the fruit lingered in his mouth. Guoguo and the little parrot clustered around, smacking their lips as they ate the fruit.

"Try it!" Liu Zhenhan tossed one to Lily, Helen, and Moer each, "These are much bigger than the Immortal Fruits from our Southeastern Province, and not bitter at all!"

"This is delicious!" The young elf prince wasn’t shy, happily eating an Immortal Fruit with delight.

"Korina! O’Neal! Keep chopping! The good-looking ones we’ll take back to decorate the place, the bad ones, chop them up and get the fruits!" Liu Zhenhan yelled at the other Antelope Warriors, "Don’t just stand there! Get to work!"

"Richard! Everyone is marching; isn’t this a bit inappropriate?" Helen whispered, pulling on Liu Zhenhan’s arm.

"Come on!" Liu Zhenhan disdainfully pointed toward the Mulanese camp on the horizon, some fifty or sixty miles away, "Look at our opponent. aside from sending some scouts to hover around distantly, do you see them making any moves? We still have a long way to go!"

Indeed, the Mulanese army was chill enough to match a land dragon. The Beamon Army had spread out across the horizon, yet there were leisurely wisps of cooking smoke rising from their camp, with no signs of large-scale mobilization. From the Beamon end, one could only make out vague figures patrolling unhurriedly.

To think there was such an arrogant opponent, who dared to ignore the Beamon Army emerging from the Redstone Canyon, Prince Kahn was so angry he was itching for a fight.

Prince Kahn had timed it; if the Mulanese army set out at the same time the Beamon Expeditionary Army crossed the entire Redstone Canyon and arrived at this vast rocky desert, the two forces should have met right in the middle of the rocky desert, ready to square off for a grand battle.

But the Mulanese hadn’t moved an inch. Even as the Beamon’s vanguard had already made it halfway through the Cactus Forest in the desert, there was still no response from the other side. General Pingtuo, the staff chief, used a high-power Observation Mirror to scour the area repeatedly and had to admit that the Mulanese were indeed brazen—still displaying no signs of mobilization by now.

The extended lines of Mulanese tents seemed to reach the horizon, positioned in a straight line in the dense north, while the Beamon Army was still on the move on the southern end of the rocky desert. Within a hundred miles all around, aside from a twenty-mile-away ancient city ruin to the northeast, and two red rain rock mountains stretching for hundreds of miles to the west, there were no other large obstacles. It was the perfect terrain for a large army to charge and battle unfettered.

"These Mulan cowards! Fancy posing in front of me!" Prince Kahn sneered coldly and swiftly issued his command, "Advance the entire army another twenty miles. If the enemy makes no move during this period, their troop formation will be quite rushed. Then, I want the five Wolf Cavalry brigades and the three Wolf Riders brigades of the War God’s Whip to charge at top speed, tearing apart these haughty Mulan bandits! Infantry will move as quickly as possible to keep up with the Wolf Cavalry and join the battle!"

Blood was boiling; battle loomed imminent. Every Beamon warrior stuck close to their corps’ banner, hastening northward toward the enemy. The giant cacti wreaked havoc on the formation, but fortunately, this cactus forest disappeared into the desert ten miles out. If they were moving in the opposite direction, the southern stretch of cactus forest extending for hundreds of miles would be decidedly more problematic.

The Mulanese really weren’t just for show. As Beamon’s Expeditionary Army passed the cactus forest and advanced about fifteen miles further, troops of Camel Cavalry burst out from the Mulanese camp’s gateway, their iron hooves kicking up billowing dust clouds that merged into a rolling yellow dragon on the distant horizon. Despite the distance of over twenty miles, the Cavalry’s cries and the loud crack of whips upon their mounts could be heard clearly, and the ground trembled beneath them.

Prince Kahn waved his war whip, restraining the entire Beamon Expeditionary Army twenty miles away from the enemy. Prince Lionheart felt a twinge of regret; if the enemy had allowed the Beamon forces to move another five miles, with the speed of the Wolf Riders, they would have been doomed. However, Prince Kahn also felt a hint of respect for the military quality of the Mulanese. Their cavalry was so seasoned—thousands of troops on the doorstep, yet there was not a hint of confusion.

All Beamon needed now was to wait. Officers of every brigade immediately ordered their warriors to replenish water and food. Scout, messenger, and staff officers were now the busiest. Although it was their first time using the Observation Mirror for long-range recon, the staff officers rapidly mastered this marvelous military equipment. Voluminous data of enemy movements and reports from air Cavalry were swiftly compiled into intelligence presented before General Kahn.

The Mulanese air Cavalry were very restrained; despite being aloft, they hovered over their own formation. Beamon’s air Cavalry were also cautious due to their wariness of the enemy’s magnetic storm weapons.

"Your Highness, what’s the situation now? When do we start the fight?" Liu Zhenshan arrived at the imposing front line of the Beamon’s battle array, clutching a giant Immortal Fruit. Juice splashed as he took bites, eyeing Prince Kahn whose brows were tightly furrowed.

"Your Excellency, although we are of equal rank, if I see you and your troops in such disarray again, I will not hesitate to order the provost guards to chop off your head as a public warning!" Prince Kahn glared at Liu Zhenshan for a long while before squeezing out this vicious threat through clenched teeth.

His Highness was also puzzled. He had just seen the War God’s Summer Palace Guard and this tedious Chief Shaman cutting down cactus after ten miles of march; bizarrely, these fellows managed to catch up without so much as blushing or losing breath.

"Your Highness, are you trying to revolt or something?" Liu Zhenshan wiped the sweet juice from the corner of his mouth, bursting into a hearty laugh, "My War God’s Summer Palace Guard is newly formed from followers and militiamen, being a followers’ outfit. You’re asking us, a makeshift defence militia, to adopt regular army formations—that’s like forcing a good man into prostitution, isn’t it?"

"Damn!" Prince Lionheart angrily rapped his own head, scolding himself for being a fool.

His Highness had only seen thousands of warriors idly milling about, forgetting these were followers, not regular army, and had needlessly fallen into professional habit.
