Chapter 1092: Chapter 284: The Brave’s Game
Just as Prince Lionheart had surmised, when the contingent of three thousand Beamon warriors advanced within ten miles of their position, the Mulanese forces showed no intention of retreating whatsoever---------------The valiant soldiers had no tradition of flinching before a weaker enemy, neither Beamon nor Mulanese.
This battlefield was the Transverse Mountain Range, which almost bisected the entire Taklamago Desert.
The Transverse Mountain Range originally stretched in a line from the coastlines on both the east and west sides of the desert. If it weren’t for a huge chasm created by severe weathering at a position slightly east of the meridian, the civilizations of the desert and Aegean would likely have never had the chance to clash---------The mountain, soaring hundreds of feet high, had stood for eons, surely a threshold intentionally set by the creation deity.
Time is the sharpest blade that divides everything; even the barrier-like Transverse Mountain Range was eventually eroded by time and sand into a small breach, as if a maiden had parted a thin veil of a window, to gaze intently at the scenery outside.
The two equally well-disciplined armies faced each other across this quietly opened window, the howling north wind whistling through the towering chasm, rustling the flags of both sides.
On the ground were densely packed warriors, and in the sky soared the aerial forces, high-flapping their wings. All was quiet between heaven and earth.
At the northern end of the chasm.
"Yabushan~Yabushan~" Vulture Leader Hashmian plummeted from the sky in haste, not even having time to fold his wings, and strode up to Tallbruh, the commanding general of the Mulanese vanguard: "Aside from the three thousand men opposite us, the main force of the barbarians from the west is rushing this way from dozens of miles away! Roughly twenty thousand strong!"
The sight of the Vulture People was remarkably keen; they could survey everything within a hundred miles from high above. The report from Vulture Leader Hashmian caused Mulan General Tallbruh to frown slightly.
"Have the Desert Dwarfs been notified?" Tallbruh, though a rough desert man, knew who was the most crucial chess piece in the handsome general’s strategy.
"They’ve been notified already! The Desert Dwarfs are now all ready! Just waiting for us to perform!" Vulture Leader Hashmian cracked a smile.
General Tallbruh turned his face to the side, fingers idly stroking his chin; his thick beard seemed to glisten with the light of wisdom.
The Vulture Leader watched the temporary commander with eager eyes. Since he was the person appointed by the handsome general, the proud Vulture People had to accept their fate, though Hashmian did not think the man better than himself.
What was the commander pondering? Or was he silently making a decision? The Vulture Leader was becoming a bit impatient.
"How much longer until the main force of the barbarians arrives?" The temporary commander lifted his bronze observation mirror to his chest, closely observing the enemy formation while questioning the Vulture People.
"Tallbruh Yabushan~ The enemy’s mobility is no good; they can spend half a day on this stretch of road! We’re only facing these three thousand barbarians in front of us! Smash them completely, and with the speed of our kids on camels, the main force of these arriving barbarians can only eat our dust!" Vulture Leader Hashmian licked his corneous hooked nose, his tone full of expectation.
"Hashmian! Don’t forget they have Wolf Cavalry!" Tallbruh put down the bronze observation mirror and gave the Vulture Leader a fierce glare, the unique blood-red pupils of the Mulanese flickering with a light called mercilessness: "A battle is definitely going to happen! The task the handsome general has given me is to lure the enemy deep; how can we lure them without a fight? Besides, we outnumber the barbarians if we run now, wouldn’t that reveal a flaw to the enemy?"
"What are we waiting for then?" Vulture Leader Hashmian squinted, his hooked nose emitting a dismissive snort: "Let’s deploy our ’Genie Vulture Knights’ now! These barbarian’s trash air forces, save for a few flying tigers that are a bit tricky, the rest are pushovers! Let me clear their aerial scouts first, blind their dog eyes!"
"Hold your horses! Hashmian Yabushan~" Tallbruh tapped the copper observation mirror on his chest and shook his head slightly: "I really wonder, after all, I command nearly five thousand troops, mostly cavalry! The barbarians can’t be unaware, but why would they only send three thousand infantry to face us as the vanguard? Do they really think Beamon infantry can withstand a cavalry charge?"
"Even the sharpest horn of a desert goat cannot overcome a pack of wolves, and no matter how fast an ant runs, it can never escape the footprint of a camel! My Tallbruh, it seems your confidence has been blown away by the wind." Vulture Leader Hashmian watched the commander closely, his eyes narrowed.
"That’s why the handsome general made me the commander, and not you, my Hashmian." Tallbruh tenderly caressed the gold and jade-encrusted scimitar at his waist, turning to the Vulture Leader with a faint smile: "In command, one must think incessantly----------that’s a famous saying of the handsome general; so then... let these barbarians vent... the fury you’re about to express towards me! But we need to take it slow, wait till the sun dips a bit lower... I want the barbarians to taste the handsome general’s Cavalry Refraction Tactics..."
At the southern end of the chasm.
"Heh heh... The enemy has finally started to advance! Command, all troops forward!" Prince Lionheart calmly issued orders to Chekin, the Aegean Signaler at his side.
