Chapter 1076: Chapter 279: Stunning_2
As the leader of the Vulture People, Hashmian fixated his eyes on the corpse. The face of the Mulan warrior had twisted into an expression of agony, and his curled mustache framed a wide, gaping mouth, as if still giving a silent yet unwilling cry. The eyes had sunk and dried out from the blazing sun, like clumps of rotten cotton stuffed in the sockets.
"He once followed me on a campaign to Dile country, where he slew three Dile men and took an arrow in his right shoulder," Aegean said, pulling back the warrior’s camel hide armor to reveal a raised, purple scar on the stiff shoulder.
"In this world, probably only Aegean could keep each of his warriors in mind," Hashmian of the Vulture People conceded with heartfelt admiration as he prostrated himself once again.
"Our enemy strikes with ferocity," Aegean’s gaze flickered momentarily at the wound on the corpse, as wide as if a burly man had swung an axe savagely enough to leave such a mark. The perpetrator of this blow must have possessed incredible strength.
"Aerial forces, just like yours, Aegean," the Vulture warrior Hashmian nodded affirmatively. "This wound was inflicted from a high, downward angle. We’ve examined most of the corpses. Further along our path, the bodies of Mulan warriors all had burst holes filled with bronze fragments. Nearer, within a thirty-mile radius, it’s all wounds like this—massive and gaping."
Aegean took a bronze fragment, smaller than a fragment of perilla leaf, from the hand of the Vulture People’s leader, scrutinizing it against the sunlight with squinting eyes.
"The Bimon Kingdom’s aerial forces have long ceased to exist, so where did this air force come from?" Hashmian of the Vulture People said, bemused. "Looking at this wound, the enemy’s air force is incredibly powerful, almost stronger than a lion."
"There are always exceptions," Aegean said, tossing the bronze piece he held between his fingers, and stood up with a clap of his hands as he gazed toward the distant clouds. "Hashmian, it seems you have a rival."
"If I wasn’t in such a hurry to come back to report to Aegean, I’d actually like to meet these barbaric aerial forces at Suwit Oasis," the Vulture giant laughed boastfully and clenched his large fist tight. "Our Rommel commander’s ’Genie Vulture Knights,’ how could they be outdone by these barbaric forces?"
The Vulture giant’s hands were covered in a pair of silver braided gloves embroidered with strange talismans, and hanging at his waist was a pure black, eight-petaled lotus-shaped oil lamp. His proud gaze surveyed these two mystical pieces of equipment.
"Don’t get too complacent, my Hashmian. Dai Yi followed me for many years. He was fierce in personality but always cautious in deployment. His Highness the Caliph entrusted six thousand troops to him, bolstered by the twelve ’Tower of Light’s Wishes’ and the aid of the Imperial Guard. They were in a defensive position waiting for reinforcements. To defeat him under these circumstances proves our enemy to be very powerful," Aegean remarked nonchalantly with a wave of his hand. "Bimon warriors were once the finest in the world, their strength deterring desert nations from daring to step onto the Aegean Continent. Though the Bimon Kingdom has declined considerably, it still should not be underestimated. Remember, to belittle your opponent is to belittle yourself."
"Yes, Aegean," the once haughty Vulture giant now humbly replied after hearing Aegean’s words.
"After the Mulan Empire’s conquest of Maerhan Kingdom, the situation around us has stabilized. Emperor Hagan has long harbored ambitions to march into the Donau Wasteland, a territory even vaster than our own awaiting our conquest," Aegean commented, his eyes sparking with an intense flame. "To drink from the Sanggan River, I’ve waited ten years for this day."
"Your faithful servant Hashmian will always follow in Aegean’s footsteps," the Vulture giant knelt on one knee, saying excitedly, "and to freely soar across all the blue skies is also the dream of our Isco clan."
A shuffle of steps echoed around, as dozens of officers clad in battle armor quietly gathered, surrounding Aegean and the Vulture People’s leader.
"Ten years... ten years in the field of battle, what I’ve been waiting for is this day, hoping this time I might achieve my desire," Aegean murmured with a hint of forlorn longing. "Let’s hope I’m not disappointed."
"Under your command, Aegean, no one can stop our march!" Hashmian of the Vulture People proclaimed, tilting his head up. "I hope Aegean will arrange for our ’Genie Vulture Knights’ to intercept the barbarians’ aerial scouts! To avenge the Mulan warriors!"
"Patience, my Hashmian, your time for fun will come," Aegean said with a secretive smile. "Since the Bimon Army came to the desert last year, I’m sure they must have learned a lot... If I’m not mistaken, once they occupy Suwit Oasis, to ensure logistical support, they’ll certainly set up Suwit Oasis as their supply base, allowing them to keep up with the transfers."
"Let’s attack now! Strike while those barbarians are still unsteady, wipe them out completely! Those savages don’t know the trick of resting during the day and marching at night; their daily progress is surely limited! Aegean! We are only a seven-day march from Suwit Oasis, let’s just annihilate them and their supplies there!" Several eager officers spoke with vehemence, including not only hulking Giants but also sharp-eared Elves and other unconventional races.
