Chapter 1055: Chapter 270 Solar Class Weapon_3
The Summer Palace guard, from mages to worshippers and followers, most had already donned black hoods that only revealed their eyes. If a guillotine were placed beside them, they would hardly be distinguishable from executioners.
The officers of the Turun combined forces stood rigid, allowing the wind and sand to assault their faces without flinching, demonstrating their high military quality.
The situation was a bit dire. The desert bandits had clearly noticed the Bimon Kingdom’s army’s entry into Taklamago. In the Yale oasis, which covered about two hectares, a semicircular earthen wall had been hastily constructed on the front. Due to the rush, the wall was just over three meters high. The rough craftsmanship was evident from the weeds and stems protruding from the mud, and uneven embrasures showed vague figures moving in the blowing sand.
The vanguard corps was situated on a sand dune, the highest terrain nearby. The area descending toward Yale Oasis was relatively flat, with huge cacti scattered about like weeds in a rice field, densely packed around the circumference of the oasis for about fifty or sixty yards. Each cactus was the size of a table, lying on the severely desertified thin soil layer, with clusters of bright red flowers popping out from among the thorns, making the oasis resemble a hedgehog. Miniature twisting tornadoes swirled up fine sand around the cactus clusters, creating small twisters and markedly reducing visibility.
"These cacti are going to mess up our attack formation, fifty yards! Damn it, why couldn’t these cacti grow farther away from the oasis!" General Reyes handed the Eagle Eye Telescopic Glass back to Richard, muttering, "Didn’t the war report say that these obstacles were cleared last year? How come they’ve sprung up again in just half a year, damn it!"
"How about circumventing it from the side? Going around the back of the dirt wall to launch an attack!" Liu Zhenhan suddenly felt something under his foot. Shifting his foot, he saw a large, broken shell buried in the sand. The passage of time had faded the shell’s bright color, but its exquisite spiral remained intact: "Heh... the times change, the old saying really wasn’t lying; it looks like this desert was once a great sea!"
"Perhaps it was indeed. Our lives in Bimon are just too short," General Reyes, quite the poetic soul, was immediately captivated by the shell hidden under the gravel, stirring a touch of nostalgic reverie: "The affairs of the world are ever-changing; who knows if, in tens of thousands of years, our Bimon Kingdom might turn into a sea? Or a mountain? Or a swamp?"
"Back to my suggestion of a flanking attack, what do you think?" Liu Zhenhan thought it was just a worthless shell, not worth the fuss, and crushed it under his foot.
"It’s best not to do that, sire! According to the memo submitted by the military, these desert bandits are like our Wolfs; each person has at least two camels. They are natural cavalry! Although they don’t like to wear heavy armor, their individual combat capabilities are quite strong... This might also be attributed to their Uzi Treasure Blade... But what worries me the most is exactly this: we do not know how many enemies are in the Yale Oasis. If we attempt a flanking maneuver and they use their large numbers of camel cavalry to charge at our formation and separate us, the consequences would be unimaginable," General Reyes said, shielding his eyes from the sand and wind and looking at the crushed ancient shell, shaking his head with a wry smile: "Actually, the desert people, these bandits, are quite similar to our Bimon cavalry. They are not adept at using bows or long pikes; they prefer fighting with swords and throwing javelins at close range, which gives them a great advantage over infantry."
"Then they’re doomed when they come up against heavy armored cavalry, right? Hehe, I know these bandit cavalry don’t have the habit of engaging in tough confrontations. They’re cunning and will flee if the wind shifts," Liu Zhenhan pulled his scarf back over his nose, covering most of his face.
"If they were to directly confront heavy armored cavalry, these light cavalry would indeed be doomed," General Reyes nodded: "As you said, these guys are very cunning. If they decide to flee, heavy cavalry can’t do much about them. I feel that fighting in the desert is vastly different from our experiences on the Donau Wasteland."
"It is different, after all. Being not acclimated to the local conditions is normal; this is their territory. The strong don’t mess with the local snakes! Interesting! Desert bandits usually admire a hit-and-run combat style, yet this time they strenuously defend the entire Yale Oasis, which is very strange indeed! Could they be trying to prevent us from taking the oasis and securing a source of water? Or are they unsure about our strength and fortifying to wait for reinforcements? Damn! Could there be another formidable army of bandits on its way?" Liu Zhenhan speculated and then broke into a string of curses: "What the hell is going on with this damn desert? Fucking sandstorms have been blowing for three days, making it impossible for us to conduct aerial reconnaissance!"
"Sire, what should we do? Are we preparing to attack? Our warriors have been ready at the foot of the dune for a long time!" The squadron captains became noisy.
"Let’s wait until the wind stops," General Reyes squinted his eyes, the harsh sunlight filtering through the storm making him feel dizzy.
