Chapter 1041: Chapter 264: Impressions of Cambridge_2
Liu was overwhelmed, unable to help but sigh. The military map in his hands, although claimed to be highly confidential, actually had nothing much worth keeping secret. Apart from the three new oases discovered during last year’s campaign, the entire map was blank. The main priest-tier trial grounds were indeed in the Taklamago Desert, but it seemed there wasn’t much detailed extension on the map—of course, Liu, no longer a novice, naturally wouldn’t believe anymore such absurd things that a Golden Robe High Priest still needed trials.
"Excuse me, are you Shaman Richard of Divine Song?" A robust greeting voice disrupted Liu’s messy thoughts.
A cloud of yellow dust whirled up as a squadron of the Ostrit Tribe’s Ostrich Warriors pulled on their reins, stopping in front of Liu uniformly. Their mounts—a three-meter-tall blue-necked ostrich used its huge claws to dig deep furrows in the ground with the inertia of the rapid pulling, while a Knight Officer holding a long spear, adjusting the plume on his helmet, gave Liu a courtly nod.
"I am indeed Shaman Richard, child." Liu was quite impressed with this Ostrit Knight; judging from their riding skills, these ostrich cavalry were extremely elite, worthy of the border patrolling forces, though slightly ugly in appearance. Each ostrich cavalry was over two meters tall, strong indeed, but their bald heads and the bare wings on their backs were far uglier than those of another tribe, the Bode.
After receiving a positive response, all the ostrich cavalrymen simultaneously patted the necks of their blue-necked ostriches, making a "zzh-zzh" sound. The ostriches obediently lay down, and all the cavalrymen, holding their long spears, agilely jumped down from their saddles and lined up neatly, giving Liu and all the priests a military salute.
"Your Highness, I am Captain Piero of the Fourth Squadron of the Cambridge Mixed Brigade. On behalf of Brigade Commander Boban, I welcome Your Highness and the esteemed members of the Expeditionary Priest Group!" Captain Piero’s well-rehearsed polite speech flowed smoothly.
"You are too kind, my child. It is a great honor for me and the Expeditionary Priest Group to meet you, the brave defenders of our land," Liu replied, also sounding every bit the insincere, seasoned Shaman.
"Thank you for your compliments, Your Highness," Captain Piero’s face showed some emotion. "Your Highness, Commander Boban has prepared a campsite for the Expeditionary Priest Group inside the oasis at the Moni Temple. After settling down the esteemed lords, Prince Kahn, the commander of the Expeditionary Army, will also have a meeting with Your Highness; all the High Priests and Madame Helen are expected to attend."
"My child, could you please lead the way to the campsite?" Liu smiled; he hadn’t expected that the entire Expeditionary Army was led by Prince Lionheart Kahn, his old nemesis. He wondered if Prince Richard was there. Although he had beaten him severely last time, a month had passed, and he should have mostly recovered by now.
After saluting Liu, Captain Piero did not hurry on the way but first went to the carriages of the Northwestern Province and Caiyu City priests, knelt down on one knee in front of Gortani and his siblings, and babbled a series of words.
This scene almost made Liu forget—the Ostrich People of the Ostrit Tribe were also hereditary vassals of the Bode line, from the Smey Clan.
Throughout the journey, Liu did not deliberately cozy up to the direct line priests from Mourinho; as a Holy Temple Knight, Gortani had also joined the Desert Battle with her siblings this time. In the past, Liu would definitely have invited her to share meals and drinks, but because of the issue with Cui Beixi, Liu now really didn’t have the courage to speak to Gortani; Ning Yu and the two Fairy Dragons separated from him in Sabak to return to the Far East, and they did not ask why he did not return to the Southwest Guildhall overnight. Helen and Moer seemed to forget about this too, leaving Liu’s prepared excuses unused, which made him feel quite unsettled.
Mourinho had gone to the Northwestern Province, planning to relocate the Smey Clan to the southern bank of the Sanggan River, and was bound to be busy in the short term; Cui Beixi, now promoted to Great Shaman Wei An of the Witherspoon Temple, was also certainly swamped with daily duties. If Cui Beixi truly never went to find Mourinho again, the scandal might be forever buried, Liu, being a carefree person, had digested the issue over these past dozen days, clearing up his mental dilemma.
However, every time he faced Gortani and her siblings, no matter how open-minded he was, he still felt a bit awkward.
Seeing Gortani’s eyes looking towards him, Liu quickly turned his head away, pretending as if nothing had bothered him.
The ceremony to meet the family head was soon over, and under the lead of a squadron of Ostrit cavalry, the entire Expeditionary Priest Group, including all the priests and followers, slowly moved forward inside the Cambridge Oasis. Like Helen, most of the priests were visiting the remote northwestern frontier for the first time, marveling at the unfamiliar desert scenery, gazing around in awe with no regard for military decorum, especially Golinny, who was chirping around curiously like a joyful lark. The three Golden Robe High Priests, considering Golinny’s status, did not feel it appropriate to say much, and Liu pretended not to notice.
