Chapter 71: Dinner With The Werelions {2}

I noticed Dace’s muscles flexed. "I will tell her myself" he spoke through clenched teeth.

Tell me what?

"Of course, forgive my rudeness, Emma"

"I-I understand, you don’t like humans and I’m... I’m a human dating your son, it’s not something that should be taken lightly. It’s an edge of a blade" I spoke more than I intended to, maybe it was because I felt like melting in my seat.

And then a pearl of laugh burst off him, Emilia snorted a laugh.

"Emilia!" her mom snapped at her.

"What? She’s funny" her eyes darted to mine. "And I think she’s growing on me"

"You’re an interesting young lady, one who understands the situation quite well, and yet you still dine with us" he tilts his head to his side. "Either you’re wise or... naive"

"Maybe I’m naive..."

He narrowed his eyes on me.

"It’s late, I will take you home" Dace spoke breaking the spell that had our eyes locked together.

"Do that dear" Dace’s mom spoke and gave me a smile.

We rose to our feet and walked to the door.

"You should have been nice, Elias"

I heard her say as the door slammed shut.

"There’s something about her, did you feel it too?" It was Emilia this time but I couldn’t hear more than that.

"I’m sorry" Dace spoke as we made our way back to his room.

"Why are you sorry? I was ready for worse than that"

"You just got jammed by my dad and you expected more than that?"

I shrugged. "Yes"

He halts his steps and faces me with an amused look.

"It seems normal," I began faintly. "Like a dad not wanting his son to date... you know" I leveled my gaze and I felt a sting in my chest. "... an ordinary girl"

He cupped my cheeks making me stare deep into his eyes. "Hey... don’t say that," he said faintly. "My dad doesn’t have the right to choose who I date... that’s why he’s probably acting like a jerk there"

I chuckled at his words and he smiled, but then his looks turned grave. "You’re not an ordinary girl to me, Emma, you mean so much to me, I want you to understand that okay?"

My heart fluttered by his, my smile didn’t cease as I placed my palm against his hand on my cheeks. "Okay"

"Good" he leaned down to me but my lips were already moving.

"Y-Your dad said there was something you’re supposed to tell me"

He paused and the once smile on his lips faintly vanished.

"What is it, Dace?" I became ever so curious because it seemed really important.

"What’s the time, it’s getting late"

"Tell me, is it something I should know?"

"Emma" he began with a sigh, and then a smile crossed his lips. "It’s just my dad being the typical annoying person, trust me it’s nothing to worry about"

"O-Okay"

"Now can I get my kiss?"

"W-Were you planning on-" his lips rested on mine before I could finish, it was soft and gentle, I made sure to imprint the feel of his lips on mine, for it felt heavenly and relaxing, all again it seemed like the first kiss. A faint moan escaped my mouth and he seemed to deepen his advances, I grip his shirt as our heads moved sideways, I was just about to enjoy more when he pulled away.

"Let’s not start what we can’t finish," I noticed the highlight in his eyes and it made a shiver run through me.

The drive back home was a bit faster, we were already back to the view of houses and I could already recognize my neighborhood, that’s when a text came in. I sighed.

"Vanessa?"

"Yeah," I said quickly, replying to her text of ’Where are you?!’, telling her that I was already close.

"She should relax. I already have you home" he mused.

"My battery is low because of her"

"Understandable" he struck a nod and made a turn and parked just at the front of my house.

He faced me, a smile still on his lips, I was forced to smile too.

"What?"

"Although I didn’t expect it to happen, I’m somewhat glad you met my parents"

"It was really awkward," I said in a whisper and he placed his hand on my knee, filling me with his warmth.

"I know and you handled it quite well"

"You think so?"

He made a thinking facial expression while staring into space earning a giggle from me.

He winked coming down from his seat, I knew exactly what he was about to do, my head followed as he walked to my door, I quickly unstrapped my seat belt, the door opened and I stepped out.

His hand snaked my waist.

"I see you Monday, freckles" he tick my glasses with his finger and I blushed.

"Monday," I said, sounding a bit downhearted, I didn’t wanna part with him just yet, it just didn’t feel right.

He tilted his head in question when he noticed my tone.

"Miss me already?"

"T-That’s not it" I resorted and he raised an eyebrow.

I summoned all the courage I had, going on my tiptoes and giving him a peck on the lips before storming off while blushing furiously.

I heard him chuckle in the background when I slammed the door, my cheeks were burning as I gave a heavy sigh.

A smile pressed against my lips when I heard him drive away, but that didn’t stop my heart from beating too fast.

I adjusted my bag walking into the living room, hoping to see my aunt with either a look of panic or relief but I met her snoring against the couch. She must have stayed up late waiting for me.

"Oh, Vanessa" I sighed deeply.

After making sure I tucked her in with a blanket and making sure she was comfortable, I turned off the TV and walked to my room.

Turning on the light, the familiar atmosphere filled me, except for one.
