Chapter 529: The Blood Legacies

DACE

"The wendigos have been taken care of, and JU is now safer for our lioness," Singe reported.

"Good," I replied. "And the wendigo that marked Emma?"

"Kept in the torture room."

I’ll make him wish he never marked what’s mine, even though the imprint was gone; that doesn’t stop me from giving him a slow, painful death he will never forget, even in the afterlife.

Maybe this was an inch to bleed and kill something. I’ve been restless for the past few weeks.

After my proposal, my baby girl hasn’t given me an answer yet.

I don’t know why she hesitated in that instant or chose silence. I don’t know what will happen if she doesn’t accept. I might truly lose it.

She’s already my wife, but I wanted to make things official so that both the supernatural and the humans know she was mine.

I wanted her to have everything she could ever dream of. Human marriage would be one of them, and if that’s what it took to make her happy, then I would gladly be the first Alpha to have a wedding. I wouldn’t mind it.

But these two weeks of distance were killing me. I knew I needed to give her time and not pressure, but I was at my last straw.

In the space of that time, everything was back to normal, to the point that what happened weeks ago felt like a dream.

Hayden successfully broke the curse on Emma. Her roommate, Wendy, still shaken up, was now aware of the supernatural world.

She would be kept under close supervision until she adjusts properly.

I worked closely with the government to make the law of coexistence broader, exceeding Juneau.

Fucking Owen got married.

I still hate his guts, but Emma had learned to accept him because of Hayden.

He may be an annoying figure in our lives, but I would give him the chance of redemption solely because of Emma and his contribution to this new era we are entering.

We may extend the law of coexistence, but eventually, the world will know. When that time comes, House Sherman and my Pride will see through it and make it work. The government was on our side.

"Alpha."

I snapped out of my thoughts and shifted my gaze to Singe. Was I spaced out for too long?

He smiled. "Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get your answer from the Lioness soon."

I cleared my throat, shifting in my seat. He was there when I made the custom ring.

I did it a few months ago, and his brother helped keep it in Emma’s room before she arrived at JU.

I bet it would have been more alarming if she had found the ring; I might have truly scared her away.

I was pleased I did the proposal myself, but I’m still disturbed. What if she never gives me an answer?

There was a knock on my office door, which grabbed our attention. With a nudge of my head, I signalled Singe to answer it.

He walked and pried the door open. Grayson stepped in.

A smile found my lips on cue. "To what do I owe this honor, Gray?"

"Very funny," Grayson murmured under his breath, even though he knew I heard him. But he didn’t seem to care.

"I need to talk with you alone."

"You had all the time in the world, why now?"

He gave me a look, but having a feeling that whatever he wanted to talk about was important, I told Singe to leave us.

The door slammed shut, and Grayson walked to the chair in front of my table and took a seat.

Did Emma tell him about the proposal?

Maybe she did, and I had a feeling this was one of those talks about if you hurt my sister, I’ll kill you. Speaking from experience.

"There’s something you need to know." He took out a stack of papers from his bag, and dropped them on my table.

My eyes caught each one of them, and there were strange markings that looked like a tattoo. "What’s this?"

"It belongs to a Clan I recently uncovered," Grayson said. "Over the past few weeks, I did some research after I had an encounter with a stranger." He paused as if his next words would rile me up. "This stranger appeared to Emma, too."

"Who are they?" I asked in a slow, deadly tone, ready to instill my wrath.

"I’m still trying to wrap my head around."

"Grayson," I growled, getting impatient, the more I knew the faster I could eliminate whatever this threat was.

"I know that look, but I don’t think this is a threat."

"Explain why the stranger with these weird tattoos is stalking both of you."

Grayson shrugged. "I wouldn’t call it stalking. I think this person revealed himself for research. Emma would have if she weren’t so caught up in school work. She needs to focus on that, so I uncovered the mystery."

I leaned back on my seat, fingers resting lightly on my lips. "Which clan, Grayson?" I asked, but this time with much intensity.

"Cassius Morelock. The Morelock Clan."

I narrowed my eyes. "But there was no record of a clan belonging to your father. It’s all ghost and smoke here, too, but his presence shook the supernatural world."

"What if he’s still alive?" Grayson asked.

"He’s not," I replied. "I did my own digging and found nothing of his living records. He died, a long time ago, of an illness."

Graysone frowned. "He’s a vampire, how could he be sick?"

"That is what we’re going to find out. Did you find a location?"

"Yes, a house was recently purchased here in Juneau."

He showed me another paper.

"I need you to come with me."

I lifted my gaze and raised an eyebrow.

"I won’t involve Emma until I know this is safe for her."

I nodded, completely agreeing with this. "Then let’s go find this Clan."

I packed the car at a spot, eyeing the building. It was nothing out of the ordinary and looked as normal as possible.

Then my eyes leveled on the standing figure as if waiting for us.

"Is that your stranger?"

"Yes," Grayson replied.

"Looks like he’s been expecting you."

We got out of the car and walked closer to the house. The stranger had white hair and pale skin, as if he had never walked in sunlight.

An inky marking tattoo covered his entire neck, like the same ones Grayson showed me; it seemed to be their clan sigil or something.

His gray eyes followed our every movement until we got close.

"Why did you come alone?" he asked Grayson in particular. "I was expecting to see the Lady too."

"You’re not getting anywhere close to her until I say so."

His eyes were pinned on me, but strangely, they weren’t hostile but understanding. "I could never deny her mate’s wishes."

"You know about us?" Grayson asked.

"My name is Landon. I’ve been watching from afar. After the master’s death, I needed to know about the heirs to The Morelock Clan."

"He’s really dead then, Cassius," Grayson said, and I noted a hint of tension in his tone.

"Unfortunately, yes. He was born with weak genes, and his time was always at death’s door, yet his impact on the supernatural society was far greater than anything. He worked in the shadows to ensure the survival of the Vampire race and throw the werelions off trail."

"The reason why my father speaks with caution about him," I said, recalling.

Landon smiled. "Yes. He got tired of ensuring the survival of a doomed race because of their greed. He broke connections with that world and went into hiding."

He moved his gaze to Grayson, and then they softened. "That was how he met your mother. He might not have been the ideal father, but the things he did was to ensure your safety. The elder vampires were after him at that time."

"You’re right," Grayson said, an unreadable expression on his face. "He wasn’t the ideal father figure, but he sounded like a man who did everything he could to be one."

"Why are you in Juneau?" I asked, cutting to the chase.

I still needed to know if this Landon was a threat or not, but my senses told me he was just a harmless person following through his master’s wishes.

"For this, to let you know that your Father’s legacy still lives on."

"You should have made that point known without stalking," I said sternly.

Landon chuckled. "Forgive my methods, but it was the only way to let the heirs havean interest in their clan." He moved his attention back to Grayson. "Know that no matter what, the Morelock legacy lives on not by clan but the blood running through your veins. The Blood Legacy is our hope and future."

He turned and walked into the house. "If you need me, you know where to find me."

I folded my arms, watching as the doors slammed shut behind him.

"It’s official then, there’s another clan in town," Grayson said. "Juneau is surely becoming a beacon for many things."

"I wish I could disagree."
