BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 496: Lost Bond
Chapter 496: Lost Bond
I stepped out of the mansion, eyeing the car. I paused, looking around to make sure no one was in the vicinity. Seeing no one, I made my way toward the woods, murmuring a cloaking spell to mask my scent just to be cautious.
The moon shined its brightest, giving me a path to see. I had no idea where I was going; all I knew was I needed to get further and further away until I was in the middle of nowhere. This should be enough.
"My patience has its limit, Emmaline"
The familiar voice stopped me in my tracks, I turned around but found no one there, nothing but the dark woods spanning for miles and miles, the hooting owl, and the crickets singing from their spot. I’m certain I heard his voice or was I hallucinating?
"I don’t have all the time in the world"
I gasped as I turned, finding Luther standing before me, taking away any means of personal space. He was just as eerily at night, dangerous and threatening specifically with the look he had on. He didn’t look too pleased that I came here without what he asked.
I think it’s time to stall, I might as well figure out why he wanted Hayden while I’m at it.
"W-Why do you want Hayden?" I asked, my fist clenched tightly to calm my nerves skyrocketing. This wasn’t the ideal plan I had... to be out here with him but I needed to stall, long enough to think of something. To shake off Luther won’t be easy but I’ll try my best. I’ll not hand Hayden to him. Whatever his twisted plan is he’s not getting it.
He narrowed his eyes and chuckled deeply, more amused than surprised about my actions. "Did you come here to question me?"
"I—"
"Emmaline, Emmaline" he took my chin, his touch felt like ice to my skin. "It seems you don’t understand the situation quite well" he murmured, his eyes gleaming giving it a dangerous glint. I could only swallow a lump in my throat. "I asked you a simple task and you failed"
"I didn’t fail!" I snapped.
"Then what do you think you could possibly accomplish by coming here empty-handed?" he growled, leaning to me, our faces inches apart. "I’m sure your mate doesn’t approve," he murmured, his ruby eyes taking in every last one of my features, from my eyes, nose, lips, and then back to my eyes again.
"You were such a good girl not telling him, I smell a rift"
"Hayden" I began. "She’s unconscious"
"I’m aware" he replied like it was old news. I’m certain now he had someone spying for him in the mansion. "I’m sure you can find a spell or so to wake her up"
"I need more time," I said through clenched teeth.
"I gave you enough... but it seems you’re not motivated. I think I’ll help you with that" he let me go and I feared for the worse.
"Wait wait!" I stopped him by grabbing his arm, "Please Luther"
He smirked. "You can just stop me if you want Emmaline"
I wish I could.
"And I don’t mean the pathetic face you have on"
"Luther"
"Fight me"
But I can’t even if I want to.
A look I couldn’t describe flashed in his eyes. His smirk got wider like he knew the answer. "Deny it or not Emmaline, as your sire you still answer to me"
That scared me the most, I felt it the first day he came to me. I wanted to resist him but I couldn’t, it was almost like an invisible string pulled me toward him. It was faint, almost not responsive but as little as it was it held me so strongly that I couldn’t breathe.
It was the sire bond refusing me from defying him. I hated it. I thought I was free of it, I crave Dace’s blood now so the bond shouldn’t be there any longer.
I gasped when he suddenly pulled me to him, his breath against my neck as he took a whiff of my scent before he brought his lips to my ear. I remained still, obedient, and disturbed.
I was actually scared I would play by his hands more than I thought. He had me in his grasp, came to me at a vulnerable moment and I played his game. He knew the hold he had on me, bond or not.
"I can see it in your eyes. Fight it all you want it wouldn’t change a thing" he said softly against his nature but still as twisted as ever, like he was searching the deep corners of my mind to tug whatever strings he could find.
He pulled away but our faces remained inches apart. His finger rubbed against my lips, he had an indifferent demeanor but his eyes told me a different story.
"You have 48 hours Emmaline," his hand trailed to my cheek, his cold touch felt like spiders crawling against my skin. "Come to me empty-handed again and then I’ll have to motivate you, I’ll start with your mother"
Terror shocked me as he voiced my internal fears.
"It would be such a disappointment, Emmaline, you finally reunited with your mother, for her to be taken away so cruelly would be a pain" his hand trailed to my chest, and he placed it there, my heartbeat pulsating beyond control.
"And then I’ll go for your aunt. You love her just as much" he leaned away and I could finally breathe but at the same time, I couldn’t.
He disappeared into the darkness and I was left alone. This was getting terrifying by the minute and too much to bear. I had no idea why he wanted Hayden but he’s desperate. I knew that much.
Be strong Emma, don’t let him get to you, he might have a hold on you but that doesn’t mean I won’t act.
It was time to play the tune. Luther will regret the day he tried to manipulate me.
