Chapter 49: More Truth

Chapter 49: More Truth

"The Devereaux came here 2 hundred years ago, to dominant this place, and cease it as their home, as any beast would"

"B-By force?"

"By force"

I gulped at her words, my eyes trembling. "That’s... awful"

"They are pride creatures, humans are insignificant to them, they think of nothing but themselves, they are hard creatures, Emma"

"W-What happened then?"

"Luckily our Family, the Adams, struck a bargain with them. We were desperate and in desperate times called for desperate measures. We already lost one family we couldn’t bear to lose more. We struck a deal with them, keep the vampires away and then have a place here, more like own various parts but it was merely little to them, werelion are luxurious creatures, but over time it worked"

"The vampires are the mortal enemies of the werelions, more like the vampires shit their pants in their presence, they are the only beast capable of killing them. I must imagine how scared you must be when you saw one"

"Y-Yes" I murmured, still remembering the frightening red eyes I saw, and more... Dace.

"Now you know why I have been trying to keep this away from you, this world is dangerous Emma, if you get mixed up further then..." she paused, sighing heavily. "Anyone but the Devereaux... they are not your friendly neighbor, they have enemies, opposers, they are a wild bunch, not for someone like you"

I don’t know why but I felt something heavy in my chest when she said those words to me, that was nothing but the truth and I believe her, after what I have seen it all made sense why everyone dislike them, they came to dominant this wonderful town, if not for the bargain what could have happened to the other families? My family. Then why was I feeling a sting in my heart because I knew all her words were a clear action to stay away from Dace, I SHOULD stay away from him, what happened was a perfect explanation and yet I felt like I was forced into doing it, do I still want to be with him?

"Emma" she took my hand and my eyes met hers, I must have spaced out for too long. "I care for you and you know that, right?"

I nodded, and she smiled. "I’m gonna be more honest with you and I promise, no more secretes"

"The families all seem to be weird in their own ways" I began. "The Devereaux are werelions, what are the rest of the families?"

"Smart girl you were able to single that out"

"Nothing appears to be normal anymore, that can only be the explanation isn’t it?"

"Yes, you’re quite right" she took a deep breath. "I will tell you after, okay? You need some rest"

"Bu-"

"Please Emma, it already took a lot before I can open up about this"

"But does mom know about all this?"

She shakes her head. "No, and I prefer for it to stay that way, there’s a reason for that which I will tell you after"

"Okay," I said, my throat getting dry again.

"Will get you something to eat, you have been asleep for a whole day"

Like her words were magic, my stomach growled and I blushed "Y-Yes I’m really really hungry"

"I know darling, let’s get you something to eat okay?"

And it was Jello, the green ones, ugh, well I have no choice because I knew perfectly well as long as I’m in this hospital it will be Jellos Jellos Jellos.

My eyes darted to Vanessa reading some book on the chair, my mom was out making calls or something, I really do hope she would get back to work due to how demanding it was, but she insisted that she was still staying, within me I felt happy.

My eyes darted to my heavily bandaged left hand, now I knew why my hand felt like a pillow was on top, well the bandage was about the size of a pillow. Who knew how long I would have this on, I figured it would probably be after my fingers were better. I sighed.

The doors open.

"Emma" Owen said with a smile on his lips.

"O-Owen"

The others came in, Miles, Henry, and even Sarah, she held flowers while the others had ’Get well’ balloons.

"The vamp really messed you up," Henry said with apologetic looks. And Owen quickly elbowed him. "What?! She knows now right?"

"Well, let’s still give her some sane of normal" Owen said through gritted teeth.

"Nothing is normal right now," I said and their eyes fell on me, my gaze leveled. "Not after what I have seen"

"Emma" Owen said in a worried tone sitting at the edge of my bed. "I got you okay? Which is why I was really hoping you wouldn’t follow Dace, because of him-"

"Dace saved me, Owen," I said before I could stop myself.

"It’s because of him the vampire attacked you, tell me, did the red-eyed freak tell you-you smelt like one of them?"

I frown. "Y-Yes"

"See? That’s why the stench of a werelion was on you"

"Owen that’s enough," Vanessa said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"It would have attacked me without that stench either way" I murmured but too loud for them to hear.

"You’re defending him now?! Emma, they are beast, beast!"

"And you’re not?!"

"No Emma," he said softly.

"Then what are you then?"

"We’re witches, Emma," Vanessa said.

"W-What?"

"The Adams, Shermans, Keith, Jose..."

"Oh my god" I held my head, I felt like I was losing it. My eyes darted to Sarah.

"And you, are you a..." I gulped.

"A witch? no..." she paused. "...I’m a Fae"

"That explains why she was tricky with you, it’s kinda like their nature," Henry said and Sarah shot him a look.

"I’m sorry Emma really, I shouldn’t have done that it was stupid, I just...’" she sighed deeply. "It’s gonna take some time isn’t it?"

"Yes," I said without a waver.

"Your mom doesn’t have witch blood"

I faced Vanessa at her words. "That’s why she knows nothing"
