BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 399: A Warning
Chapter 399: A Warning
"Not foul" she shrugged as she both descended the stairs. "It’s pleasing and very intoxicating, picture it as a mask of flowers releasing all the once but with a certain appeal"
I have heard that many times and each time I try to mask my scent to avoid the attention, but right now I can’t. I’m too weak. I probably was a beacon in this damn house.
"My name is Diana Crest"
Crest... that name sounds familiar.
"Emmaline Zalatoris. You’re calm in the midst of a vampire, you let your guard down"
She giggled. "I smell the Alpha on you... your blood is tainted with his blood, right now you’re more useless than a human"
Ouch.
"Didn’t they teach you that it doesn’t matter if your enemy has their backs turned, always be on guard"
She came to a pause and smiled at me, her smile had never once flattened. I noticed that her light brunette hair was placed in two distinctive buns and her PJs were the cutest, a long sleeve and a trouser with cute little lion heads plastered around the pink material.
"You don’t smell like other vampires, perhaps there is something else?"
Very observant.
I just kept my faint smile and went on for a reply but a noise distracted me and I turned to a team of people packing up their stuff.
"Tell me, is the house collapsing? I think that will safely benefit me right now"
"Not quite but preparing for something actually" She faces me. "The Alpha’s engagement is in two days"
A tightening sensation found its way to my chest and suddenly it felt like I couldn’t breathe.
"I’m hungry, I’m heading to the kitchen, care to join?"
"You sound too nice," I said, fixing my fake smile.
She shook her head only as she went on ahead, my eyes lingered on the decorations I finally caught notice of. I really wish I had run and never got caught when I had the chance.
I forced my gaze away and followed Diana to the kitchen, the mansion seemed bigger than I remembered each time I worked through, I felt like an alien, which was the perfect way of feeling right now, the sense of familiarity was quickly dying down and I didn’t know if I should feel hurt or elevated that I no longer have any attachments to this place.
"Isn’t this past your bedtime Lady Crest?"
"Please, it’s Diana, I have been called that many times than I can count, It would certainly be a change if you just called me by my name"
"Where’s the caregiver always following you like a creep?"
"I can’t seem to find him and Please Emilia he’s not a creep"
"Whatever"
I walked into the two of them chatting and Emilia’s gaze fell on me.
"Haven’t seen you around... I thought my brother must have killed you by now" not a single humor in her tone, just a point-blank fact. I have always forgotten how blunt Emilia can be.
As usual, I plastered my devious smile on. "So it would seem, but I’m a much better use alive, am I not?"
She sighed going back to what she was doing, I noticed she was fixing something to eat, I guess I wasn’t the only one who had an enormous appetite this evening.
"I’m not in the mood to chat with a vampire"
"Ouch," I mused, taking my seat. Diana was already helping herself to a bag of chips.
"What are you doing here vampire?"
"Emmaline" I corrected. "...and just like you I’m starving"
She faces me with a skeptical look.
"Don’t worry not for blood just human food"
She huffed. "Then you came just in time, seems like I cooked too much"
"Shouldn’t you have gotten the servants to do that?" Diana asked curiously.
"In the mood to cook my own meal besides everyone is occupied with the so-called party... happily... I feel left out" She turned to us with two plates of a simple dish and of course made with meat.
"Tell me vampire is meat, not your appetite because too bad you will starve"
"I don’t have an option now do I?" I said taking the plate. Gosh, I’m starving and I wasted no time eating.
"I might have poisoned it"
"You won’t"
"Turning your back on the enemy is never good"
"That was what Emmaline told me," Diana said with a giggle.
Emilia took a seat at the opposite of us and nudged her head at my shoulder. "That should have healed by now"
"Your brother did the honor of making sure that it doesn’t" and suddenly at the memory, I thought of that wonderful smell the moment his blood trailed down the knife. I covered my mouth and the food just going into my system threatened to spill out.
"Once a Vampire always a Vampire" Emilia comments. "Even though your kind have the appetite to eat human food it best to call it a side dish"
"Yes..." I swallowed.
"What will it be, Emmaline? Have your fill? It’s been a week since you have been here and my brother isn’t generous to let you have that which you crave, the punishment isn’t just being trapped here, but having an insatiable hunger you can’t quench"
Why do I get the feeling she’s worried I haven’t had blood in a week?
"Would you help me escape if I asked?"
"I don’t hold any grudge against vampires, but the natural hatred will always be like a second skin to us"
"You hate me" it was not a question just the reality of what I am.
She tilted her head to the side like she was thinking. "It’s strange because I don’t feel that same hostile hatred towards you, in fact, I don’t even feel an ounce of it. It seems you’re more than what meets the eye Countess and I can see why my brother is so entirely fixated, he won’t kill you... but you will wish he does"
"Is that a warning?" I said grabbing the glass of water to quench this uneasiness taking over. Every word was like a dagger to my chest because I could feel it.
Emilia fears her own brother and what he’s capable of, maybe it was time I did too.
"Yes... it’s a warning, I won’t sugarcoat for you, you’re in the very jaws of torment as long as you’re that piece to quench his insatiable bloodlust"
