BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 398: Fragile
Chapter 398: Fragile
Like a touch of flame against my skin, the torment of heat. I tried to steady my breathing as best as I could.
His hand settled just at the mark he gave me... holding my gaze as I held his too and then he dug his nails so hard I could smell my blood, the excruciating pain hit me like a train wreck, the feeling of a cold liquid sliding down my arm. I dig my nails into the counter to somehow redirect my pain.
He just watches.
Amused even.
Like he was fascinated seeing me this way, to desperately try to hold my ground but dancing at the very palm of his hand. My eyes turned glassy but I refused to let the tears fall as I stared dead at him.
"Do be a good girl... I will let you off with this" he pulled away from me like he was done with me and the ache in my heart felt like I could pass out. I didn’t spare him a glance as he walked out of the kitchen.
I shook where I was and with heavy breathing and reluctance, I turned my gaze to the bite.
He reopened it.
I felt dizzy and the magic I was slowly recovering drifted to a dark place with a heavy lock. My strength is diminishing and I have never felt human... but yet so weak and cold.
~
The scratchy feeling in my throat didn’t stop, like hands were clawing their way through, I felt terrible and so dizzy. I felt like a fragile being that could be hurled by the wind if needed.
My hunger has never gotten the best of me, I’m not an addict to blood like other vampires, my consumption of the crimson liquid was once in a while, and Luther was always there to quench it, even when it came with strong sexual need.
I frowned recalling that night with Luther but I pushed it to the far corner of my mind.
At least I got one thing out of all this headache... I’m no longer in his personal suite.
"Mistress" Tiger’s voice broke me out of my thoughts and I darted my eyes to him sitting close to my face.
"I’m sorry Tiger" I began sighing. "Because of me, you can’t portal back" Tiger always takes my magic, that was how he was able to use his abilities, and now he was at a disadvantage. Right now he is just as normal as me and trapped here.
"I’m not worried about warping back, you need blood, mistress"
Blood.
The crimson liquid running down his Adam’s apple. Fuck that image.
"I can hold on as long as I can" I assured him as I forced myself to sit on the bed. "My hunger will not consume me"
A lie.
The truth is I don’t know how long I can maintain hunger, Luther was always there but now he isn’t. Will I go on a blood frenzy? Well I hope not.
"But how will you leave this place?"
"I don’t know," I answered truthfully. There is nothing I can do anymore, I can’t make an escape not with this bite on me. I can only hope, hope that my brother and Luther come up with something.
But what could they possibly come up with? Without resulting in war? Dace will have his way no matter what they do.
"If only I didn’t come back when I sensed you were caught, I couldn’t portal back to the ginger head and blonde head"
I stretched my hand out for Tiger and he cuddled right into my arms, I ran my fingers up and down his back. "It’s alright Tiger, I’m glad you came back, I’m not alone and I have you"
He purred and the sound sent ease to my body, temporarily making me forget all the nightmares I have been through in this place.
"Stay out of sight okay? And make sure you mask your scent"
~
It’s late and my blood-hungry mood came with something else, the need to eat and I mean human food. I guess both my nature is fighting inside me, maybe when I have my fill my blood-hungry state will be at bay. I just hope that is the case.
I strolled the corridor, my eyes darted back and forth, I was half expecting to find Singe at my door but it seemed like that Rogue was no longer tasked with guarding me. Dace knows he has rendered me useless and he knows I won’t make a move, he’s that cocky.
And I wasn’t stupid enough to start a plan that won’t lead anywhere, I won’t make that mistake again.
"Hello"
I halted instantly at the voice with a British accent. I twirled behind to find a girl with a cute smile on her lips.
"Who are you?" I narrowed my eyes, and last time I checked there were no kids in this house.
"Are you going down? I’m searching for Jack but I can’t find him"
Jack?
She walked up to me, her smile not ceasing. "You must be the Countess" She strided ahead and I followed cautiously, she should be at least 10 or 12 and yet she spoke in such a well-mannered tone.
"You know me"
"Of course, you smell different and strangely not foul. Forgive me, but Vampires have a foul smell that lets our instinct kick in like a drive, it’s repulsive to us..."
So she’s a werelion? Well, she does smell like one.
"... but your smell is different" she smiled up at me. I don’t think she’s hostile to the fact that I’m a vampire or maybe she doesn’t care.
"What do I smell like?" I asked for good measure, I have always known my scent was entirely different from other supernatural beings, it was always the first thing they hinted at.
Is my scent repulsive to Dace? I knew he was gifted with a powerful sense of smell unlike others in his Pride, a way of sniffing others out without knowing them.
Wait... why am I even bothered by what he thinks of my scent? I bet he throws up at the mere whiff of me.
