BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 359: Cold Body
Chapter 359: Cold Body
I ran out of the house fast on my feet as I followed the blood trail. My ears still ranged from the gunshot earlier, but I was already used to that noise. I can’t concentrate on any else, only the sound of my fast movement and my panting breath sufficed the area, my flashlight on the blood trail I followed from the back of the house.
It was still fresh, and the trails of the footprint hadn’t been blown by the wind yet, which could only mean that Emma was close.
Please god... let her be alive, from the amount of panting I felt like I might pass out from out of breath, the only thing keeping me going were my thoughts, my body wants to give out from the amount of panic but I couldn’t let it, my legs ache when they shouldn’t and giving off that sleeping sensation but I didn’t let it.
I didn’t let my collapsing lungs stop me either, I didn’t let my weight drag me and I certainly did not let the tears on the verge of spilling from my eyes stop my movement.
I have to keep going.
I have to find my sister.
I tripped... hard, my body rolling over from the sudden force, growling as each impact to the ground caused me to be out of breath. The spin didn’t stop, it didn’t stop which could only mean that I was rolling from high ground.
The harsh tumble finally stopped but it caused me to hit my back on the bark of a tree, the discomfort shooting to my spine as I swallowed my own grunt of pain. I took harsh breaths unable to steady my vision, I could feel the cold liquid running from my head and the strong metallic smell filling my nose. My blood.
I wanted to get up but I was too weak... I shouldn’t be weak, I can’t afford to be, but it seems my own thoughts weren’t giving me enough strength as I hoped, I was caged within, and the only source of my strength was becoming my pending downfall.
Emma.
I just want to see her, desperately, I pray but to who? I didn’t know what to do, everything I encountered was like a truth slapped to my face. It was right in front of me but I didn’t want to believe it not until I saw it with my eyes.
I have to see for myself, that she’s breathing and only wounded.
After that strong thought in mind I forced my body up, the healing process coming even if I didn’t want it to, The pain in my back was reduced, and the ache from my head was gone, but that didn’t stop the discomfort from my heart, tightening like the organ was about to be spilled apart with the amount of beating it did, I wouldn’t be surprised if my heart stopped beating right now, the pain was too much.
And the cold, I felt like ice, I felt lifeless but the sound of the moving water and the harsh breeze told me it was just the weather but I would be foolish to believe that, this particular feeling had been with me the whole day, like it was trying to tell me something. And right now a pull followed, like a connection, I was colder to the point I was shivering,
It was faint but I could clearly feel it... Emma is close.
"Emma?!" I called limping closer to the sound of susurration, the ocean was not too far from here, just how far did she run? I knew no doubt she must be wounded because of the blood trail, but in her state could she get here so fast?
"Emma!" I called again, squinting my eyes to see in the darkness. The moonlight shone so bright that I could see where I was going but it was still hard to make out details.
"Emma..." I paused and hissed as I heard my leg bone snapping back in place causing me to drop on my knees. I was still healing but the process was slow because I was straining my body.
My hands dug into the wet sand as I tried to stay back on my feet, I couldn’t waste any more time.
I trailed my eyes from the sand looking up ahead and then I paused when I spotted a figure close to the waving water against the wet sand. Is that a body?
I forced my body up in spite of the disagreement as I limped hurriedly to the figure with heaving breaths, as I got closer I got a better view.
"No!" I forced my body to move quicker until I was close to the body and I dropped on my knees right beside her.
My lips quivered as I scanned the drenched body from head to toe, pale and cold without me touching to feel and my worst nightmare surfaced when I trailed my eyes to the side of her body, almost bitten off and covered in wet blood.
I ruined myself further when I moved my gaze to her lifeless face.
"Em?" I reached for her pale face and just by the feel of it, I knew where the icy feeling came from. I parted her wet strawberry blond hair on her face to get a better look, maybe trying to make sure that it was the wrong person, that this wasn’t Emma lying dead here.
I’m denying reality again.
I grabbed her body, wrapping an arm around her head and the other against her bloody body but I didn’t care. I needed to make sure that she was warm, but she remained cold, colder than the night air, colder than me.
"I’m here..." I held her tightly. "I’m here so open your eyes alright?" I sniffed. "I-I’m sorry I took so long... I-" I couldn’t even finish because the rest of my words were from my cracked voice.
I crumbled until I could hear my own crying.
"O-Open your eyes, Em. Come on, open your eyes, I’m here p-please" I broke burying my face in her neck.
"P-Please!"
