BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 358: What Did You Do?!
Chapter 358: What Did You Do?!
"Is this the symbol for the spell?" That was the first thing I asked the moment I set my eyes on the strange symbol made out of blood, it didn’t look drawn by hand, almost like the blood clustered in on it by itself, forming this weird symbol. Did Emma succeed in rewriting Dace’s DNA? But this blood... is it part of the process? Just how deadly is this spell? Was this her blood or Dace?
I can’t control the innumerable questions dousing my head in need of a definite answer, I need this anxiety and coldness to stop, I need to find out why this place was trashed and why blood was everywhere, I was getting nowhere if I just stand here and stare and imagining the worst thing that could have happened.
I want to think positively... I have to, if not I might collapse from the amount of dread eating me from the inside out.
Owen wasn’t helping with this situation one bit, he looked to be pale just like I was. This was a shocking scene for him too and I knew that all too well, but there was something about his eyes that I couldn’t quite place.
"Yes," he answered in a faint voice.
"That means the spell must have worked right?!" I asked again, hoping damn well he replies to me quickly instead of spacing out, there is no time!
He ran his hand through his hair and gripped it hard with both his hands, shuddering.
"Owen!"
He shook his head.
"The spell must have worked right?! And did it mention the use of blood?!" This is why I wanted Emma to come back to us after she succeeded in translating the spell because I knew it might be something she couldn’t handle on her own, no doubt it is a powerful spell and the price must have been something else, I could only imagine.
What happened to thinking positively? I can’t with what was unfolding like some nightmare, I can’t breathe properly... I just wish this was all a bad dream and I should just wake up and go to Emma’s room, and I will find her fast asleep clenching her teddy.
"This is different from what I studied"
Hearing Owen, I instantly darted my eyes to him. "What did you say?"
He kept quiet finishing the rest of his rambling in his head. Something doesn’t feel right.
"Owen" I began impatiently... the dude wouldn’t even look me in the eye, he’s hiding something, and his body language said it all. Come to think of it, he has been a bit uptight ever since we met, looking around nervously and biting his lip every second, and the anxiety in his eyes was far from identical to mine, he was worried about something away from Emma.
I took slow steps towards him, not minding the blood I stepped on, and hearing the sound of my footsteps he raised his head and that was all I needed to know.
I was trained to interrogate too... I was trained in many things and I knew damn right that Owen knows something.
"You studied a spell that quickly when it was brought to you just one day?"
He gulped.
Another mistake, when caught in action... little things give you away and Owen was displaying all signs, it would be pathetic for him to lie to my face right now.
"Did you know about the spell of Rewrites before Emma brought it to you?" I asked just for good measure because I knew the Grimoire of Rewrites wasn’t known to anyone. Emma and I were the first ones to set our eyes on it when we entered the Library of the Firsts. So there was no way Owen would have studied that ancient spell, there was no fucking way.
His teeth clenched and his jaw tightened. "I did what I had to"
"What did you do?" I asked carefully, slowly but yet cadaverous.
"Emma never understands! Her relationship with Dace breaks the balance of bloodline, it was never meant to last, and no matter how much I explained it to her she won’t understand"
"Do not make me repeat myself, Owen... I’m trying to remain as calm as possible"
"I do not regret what I did... I don’t! I’m only worried that-"
I couldn’t let him finish, I grabbed him by the collar and slammed him against the wall.
"What did you do?!" I barked.
He paused for a second and then opened his damn mouth. "What you as her brother should have done, I broke their bond"
My grip on his collar lessened and shock filled features.
"I did what I had to... It was necessary for the balance, I-I did it for Emma. I’m just worried she might be-"
I punched him, not once, not twice until the piece of shit dropped to the floor holding his broken nose oozing blood.
"Do you realize what you have done?" I heaved. "Do you know what this means?! Dace was already losing his sanity and you did this!"
"Don’t you see, Grayson? Emma will be safe from Dace, she won’t-"
"They are bound by their souls!" I snapped. "And you broke it! Look at the mess you caused!" I pointed to the blood-stained floor.
"I was meant to do the spell, I never meant for this to happen this way, she ran out on me when she should have stayed close"
"Dace will forget Emma, and do you know what that means?"
He looked at me with that stupid dumb look, he switched a spell he assumed he studied but apparently he didn’t know this.
"Emma was here with Dace, the spell happened right here... the Rogues were around the area"
His eyes went wide.
"You killed her, Owen"
"No, no, I-"
I inhaled sharply pulling out my gun and pressing the muzzle on his forehead with a shuddering breath. Something within me was breaking and I don’t know what.
"You’re gonna shoot me?" he asked with wide eyes. "I did what was right, and If Dace hurts her I will kill him myself"
"You don’t deserve to say that... you don’t get to decide the terms of her relationship, you have no fucking right! What you did Owen... you destroyed not one but two people just because of your selfish desires" I cocked the gun and dread flashed in his eyes.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t blow your fucking brains off!"
