Chapter 306: The News
EMMA
~
My fork dropped on my plate the moment my mom said those words to our faces, my eyes wide as saucers, and my brain basically trying to reboot. Did she say what I just heard?
"Vivian" Vanessa said just in as much shock as I was. I gulped hard, unable to comprehend it. I could see the sternness in her eyes, she really meant this...
"Is this because of me?" Grayson’s faint voice came. My mom held his hand and smiled at him before shocking her head.
"No, this is because I want to"
"Would you quit your job?" I said, biting my bottom lip, I knew how much she loved her dream job, how much she cherished it, it was what brought her joy and income, saying she wanna quit came as a serious shock for us.
"Yes, and it’s what I want, it’s been a long run and fun. But I wanna spend time with my children, both of you" she said looking over to me as she took my hand too. "And I have already quit like a week ago"
"What?!" Vivian yelled with wide eyes.
"I know I know I was gonna say it sooner or later, Besides this is an opportunity for me to stay in the town I grew up in, even though a lot of supernatural kinds of stuff..." she exhaled sharply. "This is what I want"
"What will you do now, I mean no offense, I barely earn from the shop and now we have two kids to train," Vanessa said, already getting down to business, trusting her to be the mood killer and always bring reality to play.
"Um, I don’t think you guys should worr-’’ Grayson was about to point out the two ladies were already getting down to it.
"Oh I have a plan, " My mom said to Vanessa.
"Don’t tell me you plan to run the shop with me, I don’t think that’s a good idea"
"Oh yeah? What? Because I don’t have magic blood" she rolled her eyes.
"It’s witch blood and yeah what else? With none of that, you can’t touch a grimoire or else you will be cursed and I have a lot of those in my shop"
"Are they always like this?" Grayson whispered to me.
"Sometimes" I whispered back.
"So" my mom faces us back. "As you know I happen to hold a degree as a nurse before venturing towards my dream job, so... I pretty much have the qualifications to get a job easily" she shrugged. "I will just apply at the town hospital here, great idea right"
"Wow!" I exclaimed, she had already decided... there was no turning back now. She was practically beaming as she said it.
"Grayson, you can come stay with us, we have an extra room"
"You mean mine," Vanessa says.
"You can have mine, we will both stay there"
"Really I don’t wanna impose" Grayson began but the poor guy barely said enough words as it is.
"I can’t have my son sleeping out the woods, Emma told me"
He faced me with a stern look and I mouthed the word ’sorry’.
"Look Grayson, I know its hard adjusting to this, and after everything that has happened with your mom and dad but I want you to know that you’re an Adams and you’re family"
"Families always look out for each other," Vanessa said with a warm smile on her lips.
"I will love to have you here Grayson, we all would so please," My mom said with almost teary eyes. I could tell she really wanted this to work.
Grayson gave her a soft smile and struck a nod.
"Great, so when are you moving in?"
"Mom"
"What?" she said to me and Grayson chuckled at our antics. This was rare seeing Grayson laugh like this, for the past week he has held nothing but a gloomy mood but I was glad he seemed all better now.
"Anytime you want me to" he mused.
~
"I’m really glad you decided to stay," I said in a muffled sound as I held the box walking up the stairs to the cleared-out room just opposite mine. This particular one was always locked out and never used, so that meant Vanessa got to keep her room much to her joy. According to her, this was where our grandparents stored stuff.
Ever since I came to Juneau this room was always locked, but now I got to see inside, it was just the size of my room but it didn’t have a bathroom, there was an extra bathroom just further at the lobby so we decided Grayson will use it as his.
Grayson dropped his box on the bare floor before walking up to me chuckling as I struggled to keep the box I held up.
"I can do this myself you know" he mused, taking the box from me.
"Well you have just me, Vanessa is out at the store, and mom is at the hospital to apply" I shrugged. "And I’m bored"
"Why? What about Dace?"
I opened my mouth but nothing came off. I only just slide my hands into my pocket jeans.
"Oh right I forgot they don’t accept him yet"
"Yeah but that doesn’t mean I can’t see him," I said, taking a seat on the chair I found.
"And?" he urged like he knew something was up.
"I don’t know he’s been acting strange"
"Strange?"
I nodded. "I feel like he’s keeping something from me, something he doesn’t wanna share"
"Have you at least talked to him about it ?"
"I don’t wanna pressure him" I mumbled with a downcast look.
"Well I can’t really give any advice, my love life is in chaos and I’m the benefactor"
"Have you talked with her?"
His eyes grew wistful. "Not yet still complicated" he sighed heavily. ’We’re both bonded to two alphas, crazy right?"
A faint smile found my lips. "Well you haven’t seen crazy yet"
He huffed. "I was born into the supernatural world, trust me I have seen enough crazy" he placed his hand on his waist looking around the room.
"So much work to do," he sighed.
"Well you definitely need a bed and there is more stuff downstairs seriously what did you bring if not clothes?"
He gave me a smirk that caused a chill to run through me.
"Oh tell me it’s not what I think it is..."
"You can take the name away but you can’t take the Venator outta the blood"
"You’re a warlock, remember?"
He shrugged "It still doesn’t change anything"
