Chapter 297: Reconnection {2}
"I notice something weird," Grayson said in a profound tone and it caused me to gulp, all warning signs pulled into my brain for an unknown reason.
"W-What?" I was finally able to find my voice but it came out more heavily than I expected and with his grip still on my hand, he led me to one of the clocks.
"You see that?"
I looked at it.
"I swear it showed 10:30 when we came in but right now it’s saying 11 pm. Did we pass out for too long?"
He was right because I checked the time too before we did the spell. But something didn’t feel right... I could see it right through my eyes, something I have just come to notice.
"No," I said with trembling eyes. Because one thing scared me, that clock we saw right now was not the same as the one we walked into, almost like it was switched or something, a completely different clock.
"It’s a different clock," I mumbled.
"What does that mean?"
"I-I don’t know"
"Did the spell work or not"
"We are supposed to see your mom right now, her spirit should be here," I explained, facing him with a confused gaze because I was certain the spell worked. I felt it, and it should be exactly how I met Owen’s mom, at the borderline between life and death. But why are we still in the hospital? and Dace was nowhere to be seen and him not being here right now got me scared, I was confused and I felt like my head was about to explode from the level of unsettled nerves I was having right now.
"Hey hey," Grayson said softly to me, holding my hand tighter. "It’s okay we will figure it out okay?"
"This is all my fault, maybe I didn’t do the spell right, maybe I..." I couldn’t even finish my words right now because I was panicking
"Emma please," he said. "It’s not your fault, if you wanna blame anybody you blame me... I’m the reason you’re in Washington right now, because of me you had to do a spell that harms the body or whatever it does, I know for a fact Dace never agreed to this and yet you risk it all for me"
"Of course, I will, I will do anything for you" I meant every word I said.
There was a little shock in his eyes but then they softened and a bright smile crossed his lips. I offered the same smile too and we just stood there with hands locked and gazing upon each other, for a minute there we seemed to forget the situation we were in and I was able to calm down. Grayson made me calm down with just our eyes pinned.
It was almost like we could understand unsaid words.
The sudden sound of the door distracted us and we both turned to it. A Doctor adjusting his glasses and checking the rooster he had in hand.
"We have to leave he will get suspicious when he sees us"
"Wait," I said, still watching the doctor as he approached us. Something was off and I could feel it.
His phone suddenly rang and he pulled it out from his white lab coat.
"Yes mom, yeah yeah," he said.
"Wait, is that..." Grayson trailed with wide eyes.
"Yes," I nodded my eyes wide the same way. "His phone has buttons"
"Yeah sure of course I will eat"
I reached for him and just like I expected my touch passed through him like I was a ghost.
"He can’t see us," Grayson said in realization.
Still, on the call... the doctor walked ahead.
"Are we dreaming again?"
"I think so..." I said in deep thought. "That phone he’s using I have seen on the internet, it’s dated years ago" I gasped. "Grayson"
"Yeah?" anticipation kicked in his orbs.
"I think we are in the past"
"The past?"
"17 years ago, the day we were born"
"Are you sure?"
"Look" I pointed to the clock. "The time is different and the clock is old fashioned, and that phone and him not seeing us. I think we didn’t just reconnect to your mom’s spirit, I think we came to the past ourselves"
"Is that what the spell was supposed to do?" Grayson said, staring at me like I had two heads.
"N-No, this just happened and I don’t know why, but still we can see your mom, she has to be in this hospital right now"
He nodded and I noticed he looked tautened right now so I gripped his hand tighter, giving it a gentle squeeze and he looked at me.
"Let’s go"
Still making sure our hands were tightly locked together we made our way to the delivery room, to the exact number we saw in our dream but upon getting there it was empty again.
"It’s empty," Grayson said and I noticed the frustration against his features.
"Maybe she isn’t here yet," I said, checking the time. "There’s still time"
Grayson sighed, running his hand through his brown hair.
We heard the door barge open but the sound came from the lobby and we rushed to it.
"Breathe Mrs. Adams breathe," the nurse told my mom as they rolled her to the room. My mom pants, trying to catch her breath and rubbing her hand on her round stomach.
"My mom’s here," I said. "Your mom should be here any minute now.
The door barge opened again and this time it was Grayson’s foster mom being rushed to the other delivery room.
I forgot the fact that she gave birth too on the same day but her child ended up being stillborn before Grayson was given to her.
"Emma"
I turned to him, his eyes remained on the lobby door that was shut. "No one is coming" he added in a faint tone but I could feel the sadness coming from it, it made me anxious. Where could Grayson’s mom be?
Multiple screams came and I knew it was already starting. It felt like forever as we both just stood there all through the process.
And then we heard it... more like I heard it again, the sound of babies crying.
"It’s that sound again" I mumbled suddenly feeling a pull. "Your mom gave birth to a still child but I hear two babies crying"
"It’s coming from your mom’s room"
We were already walking to it, each step my heart pounded until we got to the door left open for us. But we were far from it, closer to the other side of the wall.
"Congratulations Mrs. Adams you gave birth to two healthy twins"
A cold chill ran through me, my body stilled and my senses numb, I couldn’t tell if it was shock or the reality of seeing two babies. Okay, what the fuck?!
"A boy and a girl," the nurse mused. "They have the same eyes"
Am I seeing things?!
"Yes, they both do" my mom mused weakly before lying back down but she kept her loving gaze on both the babies.
"Get some rest I will get them cleaned up," she said as she and the other nurse carried the two babies and walked out of the door with smiles on their faces, that was when our eyes locked on the two babies.
Me and...
"It’s me," Grayson said.
I turned to him and he had his numb gaze on the baby boy’s as she walked past us.
In a desperate attempt, he followed along while dragging me, but I had no energy in my body, my mind was still trying to process everything. My gaze was on our locked hands and everything felt so surreal right now, I moved my gaze to the back of Grayson and they trembled and my body weakened. Tears were already leaking from my eyes.
We stopped and got to where they placed us, where they kept us, I remember my mom told me I was born so fragile, seemed like it was the same case for Grayson too, we were both so tiny, the size of the nurse hand. They placed us in the neonatal intensive care unit.
We both watched as they attended to the both of us. My heart was hammering in my chest more than I could contain.
"My mom" he finally began. "My mom was never coming... because..." his breath trembled. "She is already here... my mom. Our mom" he corrected and faced me.
The emotions were storming in his eyes just like mine and before I knew it my tears were already falling on their own accord because my chest felt like it would combust.
"You’re my sister," he rasped.
My heart slammed a loud heartbeat at his spoken words. There was a reason my spell brought us to the past, maybe it wasn’t intended to connect us to a spirit because there was no connection for our mom was still alive, and we only needed to connect to the past. All the lures, the unearthly feelings towards each other, and the slight similarities were all put into place and it centered around a mystery truth I still found hard to believe.
A mysterious truth that... Grayson is my twin brother.
