BLOOD LEGACIES
Chapter 257: Beastly {1}

Chapter 257: Beastly {1}

My body stayed still and I didn’t move from my spot, I think I was enclosing my breath too in an inconceivable silence, I’m probably being paranoid, that could have been a bird or a lizard but I still haven’t forgotten the fact that we’re deep in the woods and hidden, so I shouldn’t be paranoid right?

The sound came again and I froze up, that didn’t sound like a bird poking its nib on the window that sounded like a SCRATCH!

The lights were off, so it was really difficult to see, but the murky nightlight that came in gave me a view of the window and the shadows of the tree branches playing through the curtains from the trim gesture of wind. I could feel someone or something’s presence, I just haven’t seen it yet, that sound was the proof I got.

So I didn’t make a sound or move. I just sat still where I was with my knees to my chest watching the window. I was too scared to move or walk there to check, I was just telling myself that it might be a lizard, please just be a lizard!

The scratch came again more profoundly like a claw was rubbing through the wall and then a shadow moved and I held my breath. The loud drums of my beating heart mirrored in my ears. A shadow moved! Something or someone was definitely there!

I assembled as much intrepidity as I could and then I thrust, slowly and made sure I didn’t make a sound and also kept my eyes on the window. I creep carefully to the window and the closer I got the more my heartbeat blasted, I could even hear it now. I was unexpectedly feeling all sweaty in spite of the cold and my lips quivering narrowly as well as my body.

My heart almost hopped out of my chest when I heard a growl and then a loud sound like something jumped off my window.

That was when I scurried to it, panting and zapping the curtains open, but I found nothing, but that doesn’t mean it was, I trained my eyes on the woods that lay before me, I mostly focused on the trees, because of the jump I heard, whatever that thing was must be on the trees.

But then my mark throbbed and I leveled my gaze. I stilled where I was as a hot chill ran through me when I locked gazes with dark golden orbs staring back at me in the dark.

"Dace?" I gasped as my eyes quivered and then he sprinted. "DACE!" I called but clearly, he won’t understand me.

So I did the unthinkable. I rushed and grabbed the nearest coat I could find in the wardrobe, grabbed a beanie, and placed it on my head. I also grabbed a bag and packed a shirt and trousers just anything I could get my hands on quickly. I knew it was clearly a standing figure of Dace I saw, does this mean he was back to his human form? I didn’t have time to settle my thoughts as I rushed downstairs. My body was screaming at me that I was probably doing something crazy on my own and I should have let Emilia or Grayson know but there was no time!

Dace came to me in spite of being a Rogue, I knew that if he sorted the kill he would have broken in and done the bidding, but rather he did not, he came here like he knew this place, this was it... There’s a glimpse of Dace trying to come to the surface from his beastly mind. Emilia was right. I was the only one that could save him, he came to me so now I must go to him.

~

This might be the craziest thing I have ever done... but haven’t I done worse? I ran away from home, and my mom and aunt must be worried sick about me. I just awoke from a coma and the first thing I did was run away, that was the craziest, so something like this shouldn’t scare me, right?

I gasped at just the mere sound of rustling bushes and I pointed my small torch at it. A frog emerged making that croaking sound and leaping away, the breath I was holding without acknowledging it released from me, cold steam coming off too.

I placed my hand on my chest to settle myself and then I set my eyes on the path I saw Dace. I took a deep breath gripping my torch tighter and followed it.

My eyes were everywhere and even at the smallest sound I flinched and I was on guard, What if I got this wrong? What if Dace didn’t come to me as I hoped? Maybe it was just a coincidence and I’m just erratically walking in the woods at the dark hour.

"Super crazy," I said to myself as my teeth rattled, it was super cold and the current was potent by this time, it was even snowing right now but not too much but enough for more cold.

"Dace!" I called. Should I even be calling him? I think I should have told Emilia about this before wandering here, but I wanted to believe I was meant to be here alone, I mean why else was he on my window?

At the sudden sound of a branch snapping I twirled and pointed my torch, I gobbled as my eyes scrutinized the area. That was probably a frog again. I walked but then I tripped, finding my face on the snow puddle, I coughed and split, wiping it off as I went to my knees.

"No no no" I tried flipping the torch on but it was all shaky, I hit it pretty hard when I fell, great!

I looked around the darkness and my eyes slowly adjusted to it. There was night light enough to see my surroundings and for some weird reason, it made the snowy view of the forest look magical, except... How long have I been walking? I don’t spot the cottage house anywhere.

"Shit!" I cursed, rising to my feet and adjusting my beanie, now I have done it! I thought I was keeping track of where I was going, maybe I wasn’t.

A growl from behind caught my attention, but I didn’t move nor turn, I knew what that growl was... It came again deep and silent, almost like a groan. My mark pulsed and I knew without a doubt who was behind me,

But am I ready to face it? I guess I will find out.

So I turned... leisurely.
