I didn’t wanna leave Emma, it killed me to do so... I could see it in her eyes when I told her I had to go.... she was begging me to stay, a silent plea that only I could understand... but I can’t. After our small distance, I knew we needed closure right now more than ever, I could smell it in the air, and I could feel the loneliness I brought upon her just because I wanted her to have some space.

I could feel her need for me to hold her and just be there where she can see me and I was more than willing to stay and be with her, hold her and mumble loving things to her ears and let her know I will never think of giving her space again, she’s meant to be my side and nowhere else. But I can’t stay now... not after what I just heard, it took every last of my control to leave... I will make sure I make it up to her when I get back.

It didn’t take long before I was back home, I didn’t bother going in because I knew where to go which was at the back of the house where some of the male werelions were gathered, just five of them and then my dad.

I stopped in my tracks when I felt the heavy air slip in, my nose caught a whiff of it instantly. I didn’t know what I came for yet, all I knew was it was urgent enough for me to leave Emma alone. The air held sadness, anger, and bloodlust, it leaked in every corner of the place. The highest of them all came from where my dad stood like a dark cloud was hanging where he was and it was just as ominous.

The male werelions caught my attention. My stern eyes scanned each of them, even as they bowed slightly their expressions weren’t something you could call a good mood.

"Alexander... come!" my dad’s voice got to me. Add that to the list too, because my dad always calls my Alpha given name in serious situations. Something must be really wrong.

So I strode to him and the closer I got I felt his Alpha power leaking off him, like a hot storm breaking free, that could melt any being close to him, that was why the others kept a safer distance. This was enough to bring any supernatural to their knees or a werelion just by the close and breathing the heavy deadly air on loose like a battlefield.

I was able to walk through it but each step I took was heavy and pure torture... I wasn’t gonna let it show, so I stood high and tall as I sauntered, not stopping even for once. This was far more intense than I have ever felt and as I got closer I found out why.

Right before him were piled-up woods shaped like a square, and no one needed to tell me what that meant and what it was meant for. I got my answer to my thoughts when my orbs saw two covered bodies resting upon it, covered in black cloth.

"They found them deep in the woods, their body must have been there for days," My dad finally broke the hot air.

"Dead" This was something I didn’t want to believe, I just want to believe that this was just a brawl between werelions over something, and definitely not what I thought it to be.

"Yes dead" he faces me with his unreadable looks and I match his cold blank expression perfectly. "Killed"

We have been in this land for centuries and none of our werelions have ever been killed, so how the fuck did this happen. How is this possible? Because for one it’s impossible to kill a werelion, none of the other families can do that, and it takes way more before a vampire can take down one of our own. This was like listening to a piece of tragic news and you’re just convincing yourself it’s all a bad dream.... but this was real and I still didn’t wanna believe it.

Like my dad could read my mind... he reached for the black cloth covering one of the bodies and opened it, I stiffened when I saw the headless male body before my eyes.

"Whoever did this knew what to do" he covered the body back and stood upright. "They killed two of them like a sport"

"I don’t understand"

"What don’t you understand, cub?" His voice was held with menace and yet so calm, that could shake any tree down. I was the only one who could handle it. I knew it was nothing more than anger fuming within him and the heat radiating off him like a volcano ready to erupt.

I turned my stoic eyes to his. "How the fuck was someone able to kill them"

"You don’t doubt our strength..." he turned his eyes back to the body. "...good," he added. "There’s only one Tribe capable of doing such a thing..." His voice was much louder now to get the attention of others. "Fucking Venatores"

What?! Them?

"That’s not possible"

He faces me. "Then tell me how else were they able to take them down?"

"They don’t exist anymore... we have lived all these years without worrying about them"

"Yes cub, YOU have lived without worrying about them. In my time these Tribes are a plague. They possess superhuman strength, and enhanced senses, just humans but yet so formidable. They are hard to detect even with our noses, they move as quietly as the wind, and they are phantoms whose main goal is to eradicate all beasts. Over the years they are our phantom foes"

He looked at his hand. "I have killed many of them but they never stop" he snapped his fingers and I watched as one of the werelions holding a torch walked to the wood and set it on fire.

"They keep coming like a pest, they are blind to danger and resilient, and they have come to our town"

"The barrier would have detected them"

"We can’t even sniff them out if we want to, a barrier can’t stop them" he faced the burning bodies and I did too.

"They have come to Juneau," he smirks. "Giving us such a welcome... let us return the favor" his dark gold eyes gleamed.
