Is he being serious right now? Did he just say that like some sport? Direct, relentless, and with no room for question, He’s actually serious! Does this mean...

"What are you?" I asked in a low, careful tone. He must be something because no human could possibly say he wanna hunt that monster, I mean has he even seen what he intends to kill? He must be crazy!

"Do I look abnormal to you?"

Well yes! His presence and everything about him was always inviting me and making me feel things I can’t explain, keeping me on edge with continuous riddles around him, at least part of it was settled but it was yet to compromise in my brain.

"You’re here for something," I said.

"The Monster"

"Are you a monster hunter or something?" I huffed just at the thought of it but I backtracked, really Emma you’re living in a supernatural world, of course, there would be hunters, but I have never heard anything about it, Vanessa never mentioned there were hunters none Dace.

He was silent, he didn’t answer my question, just watching me with those green eyes that flooded me, making me nervous because of the unsettling feeling it gave me that didn’t settle with me. I should take that as a yes then, what else am I supposed to think?

Here I was with some monster hunter, was it even legal for his age?

"Are you normal?" he asked me back, he wasn’t expecting me to tell him the truth now, would I? What if he hunts for me too? Well, it seemed like he just needed to hear from me, that was what he sought... like he was also trying to convince himself that I’m not something to hunt. Why?

"Do I look abnormal to you?"

He huffed, retreating his knife to his body, I had no idea where it disappeared to. "Only your annoying gaze is"

"What’s wrong with my gaze?" I was offended now, anyone who had an annoying gaze was his.

"Hey!" he snapped at me and I tensed again. "You’re not the first I would tell what my purpose is, but if you want to get out of here alive with your boyfriend and your friend I suggest you keep this to yourself, do we have an understanding?"

I doubt it, because if Grayson is really what he is... then I knew there was no way I would let him find out about Dace, he might be on his list. I gave a nod.

"Now tell me where you last separated from your friends"

"T-The other hallway"

"Tell me did you see something aside from what attacked you"

I narrowed my eyes. "W-What do you mean?"

He set his crossbow. "Because there are two beasts here"

Oh no... the other was Dace.

*Profound Growl*

It came sharply and it vibrated the entire table in the classroom. I knew that growl, it was that thing I saw and it was on the move.

"Stay close to me, I find your friend then you get out of here"

"No!" I said quickly, too fast and he narrowed his eyes at me suspiciously. "I-I mean I can’t go with you... I don’t trust you, you might be some monster hunter but how do I know you’re not bluffing" I should find anything I could use right now because if I follow him and he finds Dace in his form I knew what will happen, I didn’t want to think about it and it was too sudden but I knew the moment he sets his eyes on Dace that crossbow will pierce my boyfriend and there’s no way in hell I’m letting that happen.

"Are you being serious right now?"

I folded my arms and had some sort of courage slipping through me, I was super thankful that it did because I really needed it right now. "Yes... because for all I know all this could be some game"

"G-Game?" he was forced to stammer at my words. "You think I’m here for a joke?"

"Yes," I shrugged. "Which is why I’m staying here until I find a way to reach the authorities, I’m not about to let myself jump into my death with you, you’re crazy"

"C-Crazy?"

"Hmm!" Maybe I’m going too far but I can’t help it. I was almost amused seeing his bewildered gaze for it was the first to see such from him besides his unreadable eyes, he didn’t expect I would say all this well. I have my reason.

*Loud Crash Sound*

It came swiftly and unpredictably... it got me ducking my head from the spill of broken glass around the classroom like a storm, something just broke in! So I shifted my gaze and thankfully I settled my eyes on the monster that attacked us, baring its fangs like an incoming rage. I was relieved that it wasn’t Dace because I knew what it meant but right now I’m scared shitless, we are gonna die!

"A Manticore?"

"A what?" His description of this creature caught me off guard but I was unable to relay my thoughts when the Manticore pounced on us and I screamed but suddenly it was pulled backward like an unseen force, well not a force but by the three arrows Grayson shot at it, three arrows? How did he do that so fast?

The Manticore plunged against the wall creating a crack.

"Now do you believe me?"

"Are you seriously asking me that right now?!" I almost screamed at him but my voice was high pitched because the Manticore roared at us once again, that thing had three arrows in its damn body so how was it still standing?

"Shit!" Grayson cursed and I knew we were screwed.

The air was blown out of my lung when it wagged its butt and like the sound of a whip the tail came at me. I watched with wide eyes as it zapped at me, the snake tail of the Manticore hissing at me showing me that needle canines of it as well as its hollow mouth ready to bite my head off, or so I thought.

Just a foot away from my face Grayson caught the neck of the snake with his bare hands...
