Suddenly a profound robust growl that shook the entire hall came through, even the windows shook, I was afraid they would break just by the speeding vibration, it stopped like a turned-off switch and deadly silence filled us.

"That" she whispers and terror unlike anything I have ever seen filled her blue orbs. "It’s coming"

The moment she uttered those words with definite terror in her orbs, I think my heart rose to my throat, and I found it harder to breathe... that sound alone was enough evidence that whatever attacked her was something more terrifying. Like time was paused and all actions ceased, I think my brain shut down for a split second because all I could feel was chilling fear that my bones froze from it.

"Emma!" Dace’s voice echoed in my ears and I snapped my eyes to him. Like an explosion happened my ears were ringing and my vision was surreal, I just realized the girl was in my arms now and I held her tightly. "Leave... hide..." his voice was sharp, and it had a hint of fear, because of this creature? Or maybe for my safety... maybe the latter, something tells me he knew what was coming and maybe he couldn’t handle it.

"Dace" tears were already breaking free from my eyes, I don’t know why but they did, I had a strong feeling that I shouldn’t leave him.

"Please.." he begged me like he knew I wouldn’t move but I can’t... whatever was coming Dace knew the danger that followed, something even more dangerous than him, was that even possible?

Suddenly the sound of something approaching caught us off guard and we automatically turned to it, the moonlight slipped in and I was hoping to see something from the halls but just an empty path, but the growl made me think otherwise, I was looking at the wrong side!

Just against the wall was a creature I have never seen, it made dread, unlike anything I have ever felt creep through my body. The last time I felt such was when I set my eyes on that red-haired vampire and when his fang sank my skin, I was getting the exact same vibe. What is this?

The head of a lion but completely different because I could see human facial characteristics, teeth sharpened like endless needles as it bared them, the body of a lion, dark brown, with the hairs standing in alert like it was about to assume its rage upon us.

It wriggled low on all fours against the wall like it was about to pounce, I noticed the dangerous wings against its back matching the brown color of its skin, and its tail gave a hissing sound. I wondered why.

"Emma, run now!" Dace barked and I was finally snapped out of my mind, I felt the girl hold onto me tightly, almost having a panic attack.

"D-Dace" I was still hesitant. Fear, or the urge not to leave Dace, maybe both!

The creature roared, going impossibly low like it was ready on the charge... that was when I saw its swinging tail, was that a snake?

"RUN NOW!" he shouted and I noticed his bone was snapping, he was shifting.

The girl screamed and the warning got to me again, I grip her hand and made a fast run to the next hall without looking back. My breathing was hoarse and my heart throbbing, I don’t know how long we ran but I knew far enough because the roaring and crawling sound was fading.

My breath hitch... my body numb as well but I just ran as fast as my legs can carry me, panting.

"What are you doing?!" She barked at me forcibly removing her grip from mine. "How could you leave him? He’s gonna die facing that monster! Is he stupid?"

I was still like ice.

"Why did you leave him?!"

Do you think I didn’t know that? I just let the guy I care about to face that terrifying beast alone. I knew he was like a killing machine but I saw it all... that thing was something he hadn’t matched strength with and it made me crazy with worry.

"You’re crazy!" she wailed. "You left him to die!"

I shook, my words lost and my body numb, I was shivering without knowing it, I was the one who brought Dace here, maybe to his death.

When a low crash came we duck and the blood rushed to our heads. She screamed so loudly before dashing away.

"WAIT!" I ran after her but she was too fast, that was when the crash came again and just at the opening of the hall two bodies rolled like the thunder of roar and claws so I did the only thing I could. I ran without looking back and hid where I deemed safe.

But that didn’t stop the tears and the pain, I covered my ears and squeezed my eyes shut.

"Dace" I was worried I was terrified, I wanna go to him but my body was gripped and I knew it would only make it worst for him, he was trying to protect me, and going back was stepping on his will, so I stayed, stayed until everything was died silent, so silent.

"Dace" I sobbed, was he okay? My body was biting at me and guilt was killing me... I couldn’t take it anymore so I forced my body to move but ended up moving the table and it echoed in the dead silent classroom, making me cease my action and stay still like a wall, and my heart throbbing.

That was when a sound got to me and I looked up as my eyes widened in shock at a black-clothed person standing before me, how did this person get here? I didn’t even hear a sound so how? I couldn’t see his face because his mouth and nose were covered in a dark cloth. It was hard to make out his eyes from this angle too.

"Emma?"

That voice I recognized and for some reason, I felt an aura of safety engulf me, just like whenever I was around Dace.

"G-Grayson?"

What is he doing here? And why was he pointing a... crossbow at me? He looked like he was on a hunt for an animal or something.

"What are you doing here?"

"I-I-I" I couldn’t speak I was still trying to ride my terror and shock. I gasped when he suddenly grabbed my arm and raised me up before slamming my back to the wall, I yelped.

I was even more numb when he suddenly held a knife to my neck, was he being serious right now? His eyes were cold and unreadable, was he gonna kill me?

"Tell me the truth, Emma"

I gulped, what truth?

"Here at night and your fucking gaze on me"

He’s saying more words than ever, this is bad for me and I just knew it.

"W-What are YOU doing here?" it came off me like quiet words but it seemed to strike him hard because I noticed he flinched. I hope he didn’t expect I would stay quiet now would I? He was more suspicious here, carrying a knife and a crossbow, I mean that was for hunting animals! Wait... is he hunting for something in school?

He pulled away and I finally caught my breath, rubbing my neck where the cold steel once was, he was actually prepared to slit my throat, who is this guy?

"Tell me the truth"

I knew one thing then...

"W-What exactly do you wanna hear?"

I should be careful of what I say to him because he didn’t look like someone that was hunting Bears.

He remained silent and for some odd reason, I knew he wouldn’t ask again.

"I came here... because I got a call from my friend" That was how it started and the rest seemed to flow. "S-She was here late working on a club stuff, she sounded panicked like something was chasing her"

"What?"

"I don’t know" I mumbled that one was the truth because I didn’t know what I saw exactly.

"Did you come alone?"

I gulped. "N-No" I hugged my arms. "My boyfriend drove me here because we were in a hurry"

"There’s no car on the school premises"

Fuck!

"His friend dropped us off, we didn’t wanna be spotted this late... and we were in a hurry and we were worried a-and when we saw the guards body we knew something was up, we didn’t bring our phones too... look it all happened so fast I was worried for her sake and... it just happened and when we found her we heard growls maybe a Bear and it’s all fuzzy and it’s dark, I lost them and I hide because I’m scared" I felt the tears again and the shaking sound of my voice made it more believable well part of what I said was nothing but the truth. Geez I should definitely get an award because I just told a lie like writing, I had no choice, I don’t trust him.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him, I wasn’t just gonna be the only one getting interrogated here, I need some answers from him.

As smooth as a coal he answered me. "I’m here for the beast that attacked your friend and killed that guard"
