Chapter 175: Familiar Faces

OWEN

~

"Come on just choose already" Henry nagged for the 5th time.

"Chill will ya?!" Miles snapped at him.

I exhaled sharply watching the two. Why did I come here again? Oh right, because of the weekend the gang and I thought about hanging out together. It had been a tough summer for us with all the extra classes in night school, and summer break was coming to an end very soon which meant going back to our regular high school so we thought of chilling throughout the weekend. Well me? I prefer to lock myself in a library, I have a task at hand but Miles and Henry wouldn’t keep quiet about it and...

I shifted my gaze to Sarah beside me.

"Those two won’t knock it off will they," she said amused.

Sarah has been heavily cautioned for months, facing the laws and much worse her family. The Hathaways were tough when dealing with punishment, but luckily for her, she was their only heir so there were things that would slide, like her coming back to school with us after her probation.

"Just let them choose... it was their idea in the first place," I said in a bored tone.

"You don’t seem happy going out, it was always our routine you know," she said with a bright smile as her gray eyes sparkled from it, But I didn’t return it. I watch as her smile slowly fades. "It’s gonna take time isn’t it?"

"Definitely more than a weekend outing," I said. She was the one who’s sponsoring this, she insisted and we knew it all too well it was her way of trying to get us back

"Look, Owen... I regret what I did okay? It was just a silly crush I had with Dace" she huffed at herself, almost like she was realizing how stupid she was and immature. "Something that was never gonna happen, I let dark thoughts cloud me, thoughts I should not have had, but sometimes we are a slave to it"

Her words hit me, dark thoughts, I have been having a lot of them lately but certainly not on killing someone, well close... if I think of Dace, but that wasn’t the subject of it.

"I went too far and for that I’m sorry"

"You didn’t just go too far, you crossed a line that would have put you on some deep shit, you hurt Emma"

Her gray eyes dimmed and her features fell into a frown. "I know..." I noticed she chewed on the insides of her mouth. "And if I could take it all back I would... when I get to see her I will let her know how sorry I am" she exhaled. "But I guess sorry isn’t gonna make up for it"

She was smart in that I will give her that.

"We’re childhood friends, special to me, Miles and Henry, nothing’s gonna change that"

She nodded and I noticed tears were clustering in her eyes. Yes, it should hurt her, but that was as much as she hurt us too with her actions.

"But it still doesn’t change the line you crossed, you didn’t just hurt Emma, you hurt us too"

"I know" she mumbled quickly wiping the tears that spilled.

I sighed. "Just forget it... we came for a weekend together let’s just focus on that" it hurts to see her cry, I guess I will always have that soft spot for her. If she’s headed towards the way of redemption I see no problem in that, we were ready to support that effort of hers, if she’s actually genius about it.

"And we picked," Henry said walking toward us.

"Finally" I mumbled.

"What did you guys pick?" Sarah asked with a smile on her lips, I was certain she was trying to lighten the mood.

"We heard one of the theaters is out of order, just the four remaining and almost full, many coming out on the weekend, we should have just gone into the city," Miles said.

"I heard someone paid for the room," Henry said.

"What? Really?" Sarah said, a bit surprised.

"Must be some movie" I mumbled.

We heard hovering footsteps and we turned, I froze when I set my eyes on Emma.

"Owen," she said in that soft tone of hers, her eyes laced with shock.

"Emma?" I said taking in a lot of her from head to toe, I almost punched myself for ogling her like that but I couldn’t help it, she looked so fucking stunning in that outfit of hers, this wasn’t even compared to prom, for some reason she looked confident and hot. It was totally different seeing her like this.

"Whoa, Emma is that you?" Henry said and Miles whistled. She blushed.

She was about to say something but I noticed her eyes settled beside me and no other than Sarah.

"Emma," she said with a smile but I noticed Emma flinched and I noticed a swirl of uneasiness against her face.

Maybe seeing Sarah wasn’t a good idea, I could tell she was trembling and relieving something she must have thought she had forgotten so I let my body move hoping to get to her side and at least give her a sense of security.

But that was when he came in, Dace, from behind her like some cloud, placing his hand firmly against her waist and keeping her locked to his side like a magnet. I stopped in my tracks before I could go further.

"Some familiar faces" He mused as his eyes settled on Sarah and it wasn’t pleasant, suddenly the air grew heavy and tense and I knew all too well the werelion was about to lose his shit and do God knows what... so I speak before he could act.

"Emma... I didn’t know you were flexing on the weekend" I asked with a smile on my lips.

"Obviously..." Miles said and Emma blushed before a smile found her lips, at least the air was less tense.

"Y-You guys are here too" she finally said and hearing her voice again was a blessing, because it was that same moment that the deadpanned look on Dace’s face flushed away like a snap.
