Chapter 149: Marked
Chapter 149: Marked
EMMA
~
I was eager to open my eyes but I couldn’t... because of my dream... of that day, when I awoke with Dace sleeping beside me. It was further imprinted in my head right now because all I could see was his sleeping form before me. Gosh, he looks so perfect, his messy dark hair I wanted to run my fingers through, his thick dark eyebrow, full, that my fingers wanted to desperately line through, his thick eyelashes flicked move now and then. His perfect nose and his silky lips begged me to kiss, cover, bite, and suck.
I couldn’t take my eyes off him, he was too just perfect, I could look at his features all day and never get tired of it, Never. I trailed my wandering eyes to his neck, and I gulped, I have never wanted to run my lips through something before, he looked so tasty, like a delicious candy calling me to lick all over, I really wish I could do that right now, but I just settled to imprint all part of him in my very brain.
I moved to his chest, He was turned to the side so I could only assess his left side, and then something caught my undying attention, laying before my eyes, I have never seen it before, although my freaky eyes were doing that off and on thing again, I just couldn’t take my eyes off it, it was part of his flesh just at his left chest but it differs from the rest of his body although the same color, it was in some sort of marking.
I flicked my eyes open... blinking numerous times before my vision cleared, I was forced to believe that I was just woken up on my own but that was wrong... it was because of the burning pain in my chest like I was being branded by iron. I groaned, placing my hand against it and rubbing it gently.
"Emma"
I leisurely shifted my gaze to the voice, it was blurry. "Dace?" I felt my heart swell but the moment my vision cleared to get enough detail my smile slowly faded when I saw Owen.
"Hey," he gave me a weak smile, before giving me my glasses, which I put on. I was eager to get up now and I did, he helped me and I rested on the pillow behind.
"W-What happened?" I groaned holding my head trying to recall, I was back to reality and not my sweet dream I desperately wanted for it to be real.
"You passed out... after..." he paused. And then I recalled everything, back in class when I was trying so hard to move that cup which I did but it ended up a disaster and I couldn’t clear my head of the pain.
"I-It hurts so bad" I closed my eyes.
"I know... the simple spell gave a heavy toll on your body"
I shifted my gaze to him.
"Magic is too strong for it"
"W-What do you mean?"
He sighed deeply and I noticed how tired he looked and then it hit me.
"How long have I been asleep?"
"A whole day, Vanessa was so worried that she wouldn’t leave, but she had to so that I would look after you"
"All night?"
He nodded. "Look it doesn’t matter, okay? I’m just happy that you’re okay"
"Thank you" I mumbled. I was really grateful for the care he showed me. A smile stretched his lips and it was so beautiful on him but then it slowly faded.
"Emma back at class... you couldn’t move the cup, I heard everything from mister Colton" he began in a serious tone, he seemed desperate even. "How did you do it?"
I gulped hard, before exhaling sharply. "It happened with the spell book too"
"What happened?"
"Whenever I take off my glasses I can do magic" I moved my gaze to him. "And I can see too, it more of an off and on thing, it still not stable"
"And you didn’t tell me?" he seemed offended now and it got me frowning.
"I was confused, Owen"
"Well that explains it"
"What?"
"Mirrors, glass, it is like a repellent to magic," he said and I narrowed my eyes at him. "That’s why Emma... you couldn’t read the Grimoire until you took off your glasses and also why you couldn’t move the cup until you did it again"
My eyes widened in realization, my glasses were keeping me from doing magic?
"How’s your eyesight without it?"
"Clear but blurry too"
He nods. "It means your magic is still manifesting"
"Wait, you mean I will be able to see without my glasses?"
He gave me a smile. "Probably"
A gasp escaped me. And he chuckled at my antics, suddenly I heard a phone ring, I recognized that tone, was that my phone?
I watched as Owen grabbed it from the table and looked.
"Who’s calling?" I knew for certain that was mine.
He took a minute before he faced me with a smile. "My phone is down so I told Vanessa to call to check on you through yours," he said so smoothly but I noticed a slight hesitation.
"Get some rest, okay?" he said, rising to his feet.
"Going already?"
"Yeah, I will be right back I promise"
He turned on his heels walking and I watched suspiciously as he did until the door shut close behind him, I had this strong feeling that he was lying to me.
I groaned holding my left chest when I felt that pain again. I was forced to get out of bed, by the looks of it I was in the infirmary, so I searched for a bathroom whatsoever, and then I did, I opened the door and walked to the mirror, the pain, it hurt so much and I was almost crying from it, I whined pulling down my shirt enough to see my base of my left breast.
And what I saw next almost made me have a heart attack. A gasp left me when I saw something staring back at me, plump red like I was branded, the style captivated me, you wouldn’t tell what it looked right until you were close because of how curvy it looked.
It had the initial D on it.
