VANESSA

~

Washington Hospital

I hurried through the sliding doors panting, looking around the busy hall, was I too late? Oh, dear! I raced to one of the nurses near the computers, I sure hope that I wasn’t.

"Um I’m here for Vivian Adams, she’s in the..." I took a deep breath, that small run really took a toll on my body. "...She’s um in the delivery room"

"Vivian Adams?" she asked, typing on her keyboard.

"Yes yes" I sighed running my hand in my messed-up hair I didn’t quite care about right now.

The moment the nurse gave me the room number I raced once again, drawing on my breath sharply, I needed water but that would wait. I checked the room number and, seeing it was the one I was looking for, I opened the door.

"Get some rest," The doctor said and she nodded.

He turns to me.

"Are you her guardian?" he asked but then he paused when he saw my looms.

I forced a smile, this always happens whenever we are in one place. "Her sister"

"I can see that..." he nods. "Take care of her"

"I will thank you"

Our gazes met and I sighed deeply. "Oh Vivian I’m so sorry I’m late," I said trying to catch my breath. The doctor gave us some privacy and that was when I noticed her eyes went teary.

"Vanessa" she broke into tears and panic filled me.

"W-What happened? Did something happen to you? To the baby?" I sat next to her in an attempt to calm her down. She just finished delivery. This will put a strain on her body and it got me more worried than I was earlier when I had to rush here.

She shook her head. "No no, she’s wonderful"

"She?"

She sobbed, nodding. "It’s a girl" she mused and I covered my mouth.

"A girl?" I said elated and she nodded once again.

"You should see her, she’s so perfect," she said breathlessly and I felt my heart swell with more joy.

"That’s great news, sis, I’m happy for you but..." I paused. "Why are you crying?"

She engulfed me in a tight hug.

"Sis?"

"I thought maybe... maybe he would come but he didn’t"

Oh no, this was the worst time to think about this... I understood her well, being alone in this was really hard for her, I didn’t know what to say, I haven’t even met the guy before, and the only thing I could do was murmur the word ’It’s okay,’ to her and made sure I console her pain.

"Its okay, sis"

I wish I knew him, I will surely kill him for doing this.

I pulled away and let her face me. "You found happiness, sis," I sighed. "Even if it was for a short time"

She sobbed, nodding.

"But now you have an even bigger joy"

She wiped her tears.

"I wish I would meet him, would have given him a piece of my mind"

She chuckled, exactly what I needed to hear.

"I’m sorry Vanessa, you barely heard from me for years, it must be a shock"

"Yes, it was shocking, but what greater joy than having a mini you"

She snickered. "I’m sorry I pulled away"

I shook my head. "You had a dream and you chased it, I’m sure mom and dad would have been proud"

"Oh, Vanessa" she hugged me tightly.

"There there, I’m right here okay"

I stopped in front of the glass eyeing the babies in the room fast asleep.

"Which one?" I asked, getting excited to see my niece.

"Fifth row on the left," The nurse told me and my eyes traveled, my smile brightened when it centered on a sleeping baby, I instantly knew that was her. I placed my hand on the glass, admiring the cute little thing, Vivian was right, she was perfect.

I sighed deeply. I wasn’t settled yet, I have to find out if she has witch blood because if she does I need to convince my sis to come back to Juneau, that was the safest place for her.

I could still remember the discussion I had with the families, I knew I had to do what I have to-to protect her if she has the lineage, but it was a slim possibly because of my sis, my sis’ case was different even though both our parents were supernaturals because we were twins she ended up not taking the bloodline.

"Welcome Emma Adams," I said faintly, a name which belongs to our deceased mom, Vivian agreed to it, she gave me the privilege of naming her.

I smiled when I saw her jolted slightly and waving her tiny hands on the bed, she truly was perfect.

Months Later

"I have made a place here Vanessa," Vivian said with a faint smile.

I sighed deeply. "I understand, you already built a life here, it would be foolish of me to ask you to come back with me" I turned my gaze to Emma, sitting on the rug and clapping her hands together while giggling at something. I smiled.

"V" Vivian placed her hand on mine and I faced her.

"Thank you for everything"

"Ha, why thank me?"

"I don’t want to keep you, our parents chose you for our family lineage, I can’t keep you here further"

I sighed deeply.

She smiled warmly at me. "Emma and I will be okay"

I wasn’t worried because... I turned to Emma... she ended up not having witch blood, maybe that was the relief I sought, the world of the supernatural wasn’t a pleasant place, my sis was able to be safe from it, nothing brings me greater joy that my niece wasn’t a part of it too.

Present Day

Then what the hell is going on right now? What was before my eyes?

"EMMA!" I wailed with wide eyes watching the scene before me, this can’t be right, this shouldn’t happen!

Emma was before me floating from unseen energy and her eyes were gleaming.

What in god’s name?
