Chapter 577: -67- The Blood Servant cannot lie to the Master_2
"Of course not."
"Reality isn’t so picturesque. The so-called stories of constellations are nothing more than silly tales concocted by mortals to satisfy their curiosity about the sky and the gods."
At this point, Albrecht cursed inwardly.
True Ancestor above!
How had he suddenly blurted out his true inner thoughts?
Ah, spit it out, spit it out. What True Ancestor above, bad omen, bad omen! Dogshit bad omen!
Albrecht coughed a few times, quickly suppressing the revered name that popped into his mind.
Beings at that level had strong senses, like a Bloodline such as his, who might draw their gaze by merely thinking of them...
He had barely escaped that terrifying being and did not want to attract its attention again so soon!
Shaking his head vehemently, Albrecht quickly gathered his wayward thoughts.
However, as he looked at the girl, a new headache began.
To outright deny the "fairy tale" he’d been recounting was not something a pure girl who aspired to the stars would like to hear.
Carelessly, he might have destroyed all his previous efforts to gain her favor!
Albrecht felt remorseful, not understanding what had come over him, completely unaware that the Blood Servant Contract had taken effect.
For a Master, a Blood Servant cannot and must not lie.
The Blood Servant must answer truthfully to what the Master asks.
"Sir, does that mean the constellations have nothing to do with the gods?"
Charlotte blinked her lovely big eyes and asked in a tender voice.
Faced with the girl’s evident thirst for knowledge, Albrecht was startled, his expression becoming somewhat vacant.
It seemed... the girl before him was not disheartened by his response. On the contrary... she seemed even more intrigued?
Was she interested in the gods?
Albrecht instantly perked up.
He paused for a moment, planning to tell some minor tales about the gods that mortals had compiled to please her, but when he spoke, the words twisted:
"Yes, but also no."
"The stars have existed for a very long time, possibly even before the gods appeared, but it’s not that all stars are unrelated to the gods. Some stars are not actual stars, but projections of the deities’ Divine Countries in the sky. Some stars are sealed gods..."
Halfway through, Albrecht covered his mouth.
True Ancestor above! What had he said?
How had he carelessly revealed such secret knowledge?!
Many of the gods’ Churches describe the stars as the works of the deities.
With Holy Presence Day approaching, his frank dismantling of these beliefs—who knows if it would draw the gaze of some hidden entities?
Ah, spit it out!
What True Ancestor above, bad omen, bad omen!
Albrecht felt as if his brain had short-circuited tonight, his intelligence apparently having plummeted!
He dared not delve deeper into the topic and instead coughed lightly, changing the subject:
"Ahem, beautiful Miss, your attire does not resemble that of the Falling Star nobility. Are you from somewhere else, here to attend the banquet?"
Charlotte nodded and answered truthfully:
"Yes, I am not from Falling Star; I come from the Northern Land."
"Northern Land..."
Albrecht pondered.
He thought of the master of the Northern Land, that young Earl around sixteen or seventeen, who was suspected to be a True Ancestor’s Favored.
After taking another look at the girl, he showed an admiring expression and praised:
"I’ve heard that the maidens from the Northern Land are the most beautiful, but I never believed it. Now, having seen you, I realize the reality may surpass the rumors."
"Beautiful Miss, you truly are the most delightful lady I’ve ever seen. I fear even Count Castel, hailed as the New Moon’s pearl, cannot compare to you..."
Upon hearing Albrecht’s words, the girl bowed her head slightly, her lips curving into a shy and pleased smile.
Seconds later, when she raised her head, her expression had returned to normal:
"Sir, your attire isn’t that of Falling Star’s nobility, is it? Where do you hail from, and why have you come to Roman?"
After hearing the girl’s question, Albrecht’s emotions were mixed.
He smiled bitterly, with a somber look:
"Beautiful Miss, to be frank, I’ve come to Roman to escape disaster."
"Escape disaster?"
The girl’s eyebrows lifted slightly.
Albrecht nodded, his expression filled with regret, suddenly and unwittingly spilling his true thoughts once again:
"I come from the New Moon Kingdom. Not long ago, I was targeted by a terrifying being and had no choice but to flee my homeland."
"A terrifying... being?"
The girl looked puzzled.
Albrecht sighed deeply, and began to pour out his troubles:
"Yes, a terrifying being."
"It was a past patriarch of our family who returned from a distant place."
"She’s more wicked than a demon, more cunning than the devil, crueler than the Black Dragon. Her strength is great, and I am completely unable to withstand her. She wants to enslave me and take everything from me; left no choice, I fled here..."
As Albrecht lamented his woes, the girl nodded, her face filled with empathy as she agreed:
"It sounds like an unreasonable patriarch indeed."
"Isn’t it? If you say ’go away,’ then ’go away,’ but why come back? And if you do come back, why not pick on the big shots. Instead, you’re squeezing me, a nobody. Have I not had it hard enough?"
