Chapter 159: I’m here to pick up my boyfriend, the CEO

Andrew was sure he looked about as uncomfortable as he felt as he moved towards the CEO’s office. He could feel everyone who hadn’t been around when he and Maxwell had been touring staring at him. It was clear that there weren’t a lot of people who came up here without a purpose, but thankfully, Mr. Newman saw him right away.

Mr. Newman pushed himself away from his desk, leaving his task and coming to greet Andrew with a smile.

"Dr. Nice. Has the research department finished up for the day?" He asked cordially and Andrew had a feeling that he was doing this intentionally. Andrew glanced around, realising that the people who had been watching him were paying close attention.

Nervously, Andrew grabbed the back of his neck, smiling awkwardly.

"Well, I have. I don’t think Dr. Gates is done for the day, but what else can I do? It’s only my first day, I’m not fully helpful yet." Mr. Newman smiled at Andrew’s words.

"Well, I’m sure it’s all in good time. I heard that Mr. Beckett was looking to recruit you before you two hit it off, so I’m sure you’ll be an asset in now time." Andrew couldn’t help but feel his lips twitch. Andrew could feel the big ears leaning in as they heard everything Mr. Newman said, especially since he wasn’t saying it quietly.

"Is Max still busy?" Andrew asked. "Or is it stuff he can take home?" Mr. Newman’s lips twitched at Andrew’s affectionate way of calling Maxwell. He nodded slowly.

"He’s just finishing up a small meeting and then he’s free to go, Dr. Nice." Andrew grinned.

"Oh perfect. Is there anywhere I can wait?" Andrew asked and Mr. Newman gestured to a set of leather chairs that were pressed against the wall with the perfect view of the large wooden doors of Maxwell’s office. Andrew smiling happily. "Wonderful." Andrew said cheerfully, and Mr. Newman chuckled.

"Can I grab you anything? Water? Tea? Coffee?" Andrew waved his hand at Mr. Newman’s offers.

"I’m fine, Mr. Newman. I wouldn’t want to spoil my appetite for dinner." Andrew told him as they moved towards the chairs and Andrew sat down, the seats very comfortable. Andrew would expect nothing less from Maxwell.

"Oh? What are you having for dinner?" He asked carefully and Andrew was happy to answer.

"Oh! I took out some steaks, so we’re going to have some roast garlic butter steaks, and I pre-made the layered potatoes yesterday so they are going to be spectacular tonight as well as whatever vegetables I can find." Andrew said excitedly and Mr. Newman blinked slowly.

"Ah, I am envious of Mr. Beckett. Having tasted some of your cooking before, I know it’s going to be delicious." Andrew chuckled.

"I can always bring you some, Mr. Newman. It’s no bother on my part." Mr. Newman looked ready to jump on that opportunity before he suddenly froze. He seemed a little nervous.

"Ah, I think you should clear that with Mr. Beckett first, Dr. Nice. While I know you aren’t doing it with any kind of intention, Mr. Beckett might not view it the same way. At least on my part." Andrew furrowed his brows in confusion as Mr. Newman looked slightly awkward.

"Max would n-" Andrew cut himself off, remembering how Maxwell had been already today. Andrew’s lips twitched before he laughed. He didn’t realise that he would like Maxwell being jealous over him so much. It was nice to be wanted. "Ah. I will make sure to tell him about the reason, and I’m sure he’ll be understanding. I just like to feed people, and when I phrase it that way, he’ll understand. Fear not, Mr. Newman, some leftovers shall be coming your way tomorrow." Mr. Newman gave a small nod, a grin crossing his face before the door to Maxwell’s office opened.

Andrew got to his feet right away, watching as Maxwell chatted to the obviously taller man. Andrew felt a swell of pride at the way the other man was deferring to his partner, and the clear tone of reverence that he was speaking to Maxwell with.

Andrew waited for Maxwell to notice him, and it didn’t take long. He watched as Maxwell glanced over at Mr. Newman, glanced over Andrew, and then did a double take.

"Baby? Is it already time?" Maxwell asked, surprised and Andrew nodded, grinning.

"It’s time to go home, Max." Andrew told him, his face warm as Maxwell called him by his pet name for him in front of everyone. Andrew swore he heard a gasp further down the hallways, and couldn’t help but feel his shoulders sneak up. This was a little embarrassing.

Maxwell turned to the man he was speaking to, his face morphing from the serious business Maxwell, to the slightly softened Max. He held out his hand, and the other man took it, a little bit shocked.

"Well, it appears that we’ll have to cut our conversation short here. I appreciate you coming in and having a chat with me in person. I’ll send you some ideas later tonight." Maxwell told him and the other man nodded, before he cast a quick glance to Andrew, who waved, and then he was on his way. Maxwell came over to Andrew, fiddling with his tie to make sure it was straight and Andrew couldn’t stop his smile.

"How was your day?" Andrew asked first, and watched as Maxwell scowled at him. It was clear that he wanted to ask it first, but Andrew beat him to it.

"Oh, you know, just an average day full of meetings and more meetings. It’ll take me about two weeks to get through the backlog of everyone who wants to speak to me in person." Maxwell rolled his eyes dismissively and Andrew reached down, touching his cheek carefully.

"Of course they would. Anyone worth their salt would want to see you in person." Andrew told him warmly and Andrew had the great pleasure of watching Maxwell’s ears turn pink. "My boyfriend is the face and CEO of a very important company. Of course people would want to bow and kiss your feet." Andrew told him and Maxwell looked away, coughing to hide his pleasure.

"W-Well, of course people should do that." Maxwell muttered and Andrew couldn’t help himself. He leaned in, pressing a kiss against Maxwell’s cheek, smiling as Maxwell glanced at him.

"Do we need to grab things from your office? Or does everything automatically transfer to your laptop at home?" Andrew asked and Maxwell nodded.

"I just need to grab my coat. It’s colder than a witch’s tit outside." Maxwell complained and Andrew laughed.

"You can always use my jacket. I never really need them." Andrew got a glare for his words as Maxwell took his free hand in his and tugged him towards his office, leading the way. Andrew watched him, a man completely bewitched.

"Never say those words again, Mr. I’ll sleep outside in the freezing cold." Andrew tossed his head back, laughing.

"You’ll never let me live that down, will you?" Andrew asked and Maxwell scoffed.

"How could I? I nearly had a heart attack seeing you on that damn patio! I thought about storming the apartment if you didn’t hear me." Maxwell told him and Andrew gave his hand a squeeze.

"Awe. That’s so kind of you, Maxy. My knight in shining armor." Maxwell’s ears were pink as Andrew said it, loudly enough that he hoped everyone heard him. Maxwell was his knight in shining armor. Without him, Andrew wasn’t sure how he would have made it out alive from what had happened to him.

"Don’t make fun of me." Maxwell growled as he yanked his door open and Andrew laughed.

"I would never consider such a thing." Andrew told him, grinning when Maxwell cast a disbelieving look behind him.

"I beg to differ." Maxwell complained and Andrew felt the door close behind him.

"But you like it when I beg." Andrew said and Maxwell’s face turned red.

"Andy!" He protested and Andrew laughed, delighted to see Maxwell flustered. He knew it was because they were in his workspace and he liked to keep his image professional, but he doubted that a single person outside of that door would doubt Maxwell’s preferences. "You can’t say that here!" Maxwell protested, dragging him further into the office, away from the doors so that Andrew had a view of the city below.

The small seating area was littered with papers, no doubt from the meeting he’d just had, and the other door leading to the meeting room off of his office was closed. The rest of the space smelled of Maxwell, and Andrew took a deep, soothing breath.

"The door was closed." Andrew told him cheekily and Maxwell glared at him.

"Not enough, and you were too close to it! You know that those who have secondary sexes like ours have better hearing!" He protested and Andrew tugged Maxwell closer, wrapping his arms around the smaller man and enjoying the feeling of him pressed against him. He missed not being able to do this whenever he wanted.

"It’s alright. They probably already know what kind of relationship we have, and I don’t care if weird rumours get spread about me. I like who we are together, and I don’t care what that says about me. You’re in a position of power, so I feel like they would assume that of you." Andrew told him and Maxwell grumbled, his grip tight on Andrew as he held him just as tightly as Andrew held him.

"I still would like to keep that secret, alright? So no more...talking like that." Maxwell warned and Andrew laughed, giving him a squeeze.

"Alright. I promise." Andrew told him before he felt his shoulders finally relax. "I missed being able to hold you whenever I wanted." Andrew admitted to him, and Maxwell’s grip tightened on him.

"...Me too." He muttered and Andrew felt his heart swell. This man was too freaking cute for his own good.

"Can I get a kiss?" Andrew asked and Maxwell jerked his head back. He gave Andrew a scowling look.

"Do you even need to ask? Come here." Maxwell ordered and Andrew bent, meeting his lips eagerly. It appeared as if Maxwell was just as eager to kiss him, rubbing his tongue along Andrew’s until Andrew felt his breathing go unsteady, and his cock strained against his pants.

"Max." Andrew protested and Maxwell pulled away, a glint in his eyes.

"There is a storage closet on this floor." Maxwell offered and Andrew’s face flushed.

"We are not doing anything like that on the first day!" Andrew protested and Maxwell sighed sadly.

"And here I was thinking I would be able to tempt you into it. I guess I’ll just have to try tomorrow." Maxwell grinned at him deviously.

Andrew felt a sudden swell of emotion, a feeling of rightness, and Andrew swallowed, before he bent his head and kissed Maxwell slowly, carefully, like he held everything in the world that had meaning to him.

Maxwell was trembling when Andrew pulled away, his blue eyes pools of emotion.

"Baby...are you okay?" Maxwell asked and Andrew nodded.

"I’m fine. I’m really okay." Andrew told him, meaning the words, and Maxwell seemed to understand what Andrew meant. Andrew was okay. He was going to be fine. He could live, he could adjust, he could adapt.

He was going to be just fine.
