Chapter 247: Chapter 247

"I fucking hate you!" Zion said as he lay in a hospital bed, recovering from his injuries.

"Now, now, don’t be like that, Zion. Everything we’re doing is for you."

He glared at Luminera, then flipped on his side, not wanting to face her at the moment.

"He’ll be alright," Erebosa said as she left to go relax for the time being.

"You know, I didn’t want to tell you because if I did, you would have tried to find some alternative method to make this process easier. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Well, I guess it does, but this is the most efficient method."

Zion managed to slowly turn his head to face Luminera. It had been a few days since he started getting beaten up, and since then, devil and divine energy started flowing through his body.

This was both a good and a bad thing. The reason why it was good is that Zion would now be able to feel and potentially harness that energy, allowing him to ascend to a demigod. The bad part was that there were so many energies in his body that were now clashing, and that made his own power go wild and uncontrollable. This also meant his regeneration was significantly worse than before.

"Do you see the state I’m in? I look like a freaking zombie. I can barely feel my body. I just feel pain."

Luminera chuckled on instinct, which irritated Zion.

"It’s not funny!" He shouted

"It kind of is, sorry. But you’ll be alright. Our energies are settling in your body, and you just need some time to adjust to them. Once that’s settled, we can move on to the next step."

Zion flinched. Wasn’t he beaten enough? He didn’t know how much more he could take. "Can I retire?"

"Calm down, we’re not going to beat you up again." She reassured him.

"Oh, thank god!" He relaxed, feeling a weight being lifted off his shoulders.

"We put your body through the ultimate stress test, so now, we have to do the same for your mind and spirit."

"Don’t say that with a smile on your face!" He complained, looking at the smirking goddess.

"Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, I promise. This is all for your future." She reminded him.

"Why do I get the feeling that you’re also enjoying this?" He asked

"Oh fuck yeah I’m enjoying this! Do you know how many times you went against my wishes? I can now take my anger out on you! Fuck it feels so goooood!"

"You bitch! You’re supposed to be a kind and loving goddess!"

"Who said anything about being a loving goddess? I’m kind if you follow my will. If not, then you’ll see that I’m no different than a devil!"

Zion didn’t like that smirk on her face. It was an expression that didn’t suit a goddess. But it didn’t matter. His body ached so much that he didn’t care anymore. He accepted his fate and closed his eyes to sleep this off.

’I wanna go home.

The next few days were hell for Zion. Erebosa and Luminera put him through intensive mental and spiritual training regimens that nearly broke his mind.

Zion is a mortal, and because of that, he sees everything from the perspective of a mortal, even with all the power he has. But when Erebosa and Luminera started the second part of his training, he was introduced to a whole new world.

They put him in their shoes, showing him what it was like to be a god.

It was overwhelming, to say the least. He was subjected to the forces of the world, feeling how it clung to his mind and soul, and he was forced to listen to the cries of millions of people who would pray to the twin deities.

That’s not all. They subjected him to mental and spiritual attacks to strengthen him and have him understand how big a difference there is between a mortal and a god. They showed him how the universe worked and how his place in it was no different than a grain of sand on the beach.

He could hear everything, see everything, and feel everything, and it was too much for him to take in. On top of that, they forced his soul to deteriorate, showing him how even gods are capable of dying. It was a horrible experience.

By the time Zion managed to complete his training, he wasn’t the same person he was before. It would take time before he could go back to his old self.

"Do you think he’ll be okay? We practically brain fucked him and ripped his soul to shreads." Erebosa was the one who was worried here. She didn’t know Zion as well as her sister, but even she knew that he wasn’t his normal self.

"I don’t know. We practically broke him. This is why demigods are rare; they can’t handle what comes with being a divine being, even if they are only a semi-divine being. But Zion, he’s different. He lived a normal life in his old world, where monsters were just fiction. Then they became a reality. After that, he died and became a soul. He met me, a goddess, and was then reincarnated. Learned magic, something that was also fantasy in his old world, and well, he became who he is today. I just assumed he would be able to handle everything better than those who came before."

Erebosa understood where her sister was coming from. She, too, would have had the same opinion of Zion if it were she who pulled him out of the reincarnation cycle.

"Let’s give him some time. Knowing him, he’ll recover in no time. I believe in him."

"So do I. But, you know how these mortals are. They may seem fine now, but then they lose their minds and end up either going insane or killing themselves. I don’t want that to happen to him. He’s our lifeline. While we’re strong enough to fight back now, our odds of winning are still slim. We need him."

Luminera looked at the sleeping Zion, mentally and physically exhausted from their ’training.’

"Just like mortals put faith in us, let’s put faith in him. Give it time, he’ll come around, I can promise you that."

Erebosa sighed, accepting her sister’s words. "I’ll trust you on this, sis. But if he spirals, this is your fault."
