Chapter 109: Chapter 109 - Attack of the Demons Part 9

"That cut on your chest doesn’t look too good. You should probably get that checked out." Zion joked as he arrived at the battlefield.

He was angry, seeing everyone mangled and beaten the way they were, but he didn’t let his emotions show, so he resorted to cracking jokes.

"You," Gonrod muttered

"Why is everyone saying that? Yes, me, I’m fucking Zion Zagan bitch!" One swing of his sword sent a violent wave of holy power at Gonrod.

He managed to block it by creating a sphere of water around his body, but it only weakened the attack, not stopped it. His arm was still cut, but not enough to cause a major injury.

"An apostle? Of Luminera?" Gonrod’s voice sharpened, a rare edge of disbelief cutting through his usual calm. "That’s impossible... She’s dead." His eyes narrowed, studying Zion with cold intensity. "How are you wielding the power of a fallen goddess?"

"I found it."

Gonrod narrowed his eyes. "You...found it?" He asked.

"Yup. I was just strolling in a forest and BAM! Right there on the ground, Luminera’s power. I didn’t know what it was, but it looked shiny, so like any sane person, I touched it. Now look at me."

"You’re lying."

"Obviously bitch. Did you really think I’d tell you the real reason? Fucking dumbass." Zion extended his arm, and a wave of holy power bathed everyone there, healing their wounds and reviving those who had died not too long ago. Luminera was a goddess of fertility, so reviving someone who had died recently wasn’t out of the realm of her power.

"Followers of the Light, heed my command!" Zion raised his sword in the air, and every member of the church of light started flowing with holy power.

"I am Zion Zagan, Apostle of the forgotten goddess Luminera!" His voice rang out like thunder, unwavering and fierce. "Stand with me! Together, we will strike down this demon and cast his wretched soul back into the underworld where it belongs!"

The members of the holy church of Light couldn’t believe their eyes. For millennia, they had been praying, searching, and hoping they would see a sign from their goddess, and now here it was, right in front of them in the form of a divine apostle.

"We heed your command!" They all shouted in unison.

"Lord Zion, I am Farissa Haria, the saintess of the holy church of light. Please command us!" A beautiful, busty woman with black hair and golden armor asked as she knelt in front of him.

Zion smiled. "Long have you waited for her return, and your dedication will finally be answered. Protect the citizens of this nation, as they are innocent. Use your new power and spread the Light of Luminera. For the Golden!"

"For the Golden!" They all shouted, dispersing to all corners of the capital.

Gonrod could only laugh as he saw this as a desperate attempt for their survival. "You’ll all be dying today. Don’t forget that."

"Hey dude, there’s a dragon that’s fully healed and empowered by holy power right behind you." Zion chuckled.

"What-" Drakoth lunged forward, his claws slashing through the air with renewed strength. He tore into Gonrod’s side, forcing the demon back. Gonrod barely had time to react as Drakoth followed up with another, more vicious strike, leaving a deep gash across his chest. Gonrod gritted his teeth, blood dripping onto the ground.

"You’re still too weak," Gonrod hissed, summoning a wall of water to shield himself. But the water was no longer enough to protect him as it cracked under the force of Zaleena’s blade. Her sword cut clean through the watery shield, leaving her an opening to strike.

She swung for his neck, but Gonrod sidestepped, raising a sharp water lance to stab into her side. Zaleena grunted, but before the wound could become fatal, Zion was there, healing her instantly.

"Thanks," she panted, steadying herself.

Melina and Raven wasted no time, combining their magic into a torrent of arcane energy and lightning. They launched it at Gonrod, the force hitting him square in the chest. Gonrod staggered, but instead of absorbing the damage as before, he found himself pushed back.

"Had enough yet, demon?" Raven taunted, her voice laced with confidence.

Gonrod snarled, spinning around to meet the attack head-on. He raised a hand, summoning a massive water scythe that cut through the air toward them. But before the blade could land, Ignis intercepted, her sword glowing with divine power. The scythe shattered against her blade, and she retaliated with a brutal slash aimed at Gonrod’s head.

He barely blocked it, his shield of water splintering under the strike. He growled, sending a surge of water toward Ignis, knocking her back. "Is that all? Pathetic."

Zircon and Belwyn rushed in, flanking him. Zircon’s sword slashed at Gonrod’s leg while Belwyn’s fists hammered into his side. The blows landed with full force, but Gonrod grinned darkly, raising a torrent of water from the ground to send them sprawling.

"Your efforts are futile," Gonrod sneered. "You will never defeat me."

But Zion stepped forward, his Sword of Forms pulsing with holy light. "That’s what you think, demon," he shot back. The sword morphed into a long, gleaming spear, its tip crackling with divine energy. He hurled it at Gonrod, the weapon cutting through the air with speed.

Gonrod raised a hand to block, but the spear pierced his water shield like paper, striking him in the shoulder. He hissed in pain, stumbling back. His eyes widened in disbelief.

"What—? How...?"

Zion smirked. "Holy power. Did you forget already?"

The others surged forward again, empowered by Zion’s energy. Drakoth charged, claws outstretched, and raked them across Gonrod’s chest, leaving deep cuts that caused the demon to stagger.

"Not so invincible now, are you?" Zaleena yelled, slicing at his leg again, this time landing a solid strike. Gonrod’s body jerked, and he raised his hands in defense, summoning a torrent of water from the ground. But this time, the water was thinner, less controlled—his strength waning.

Gonrod looked around at them, his expression one of fury. He knew he was losing ground.

With a howl of frustration, Gonrod swung his arm wide, sending a flood of water crashing toward them. But this time, it wasn’t enough. They countered, dodging and blocking, their strikes relentless.

Zion took a step forward, raising his sword. "It ends now."

In one swift motion, the Sword of Forms shifted once more, this time into a massive glowing blade. He swung it down, and with a flash of holy light, the sword cut through Gonrod’s defenses, slicing across his chest.

Gonrod’s eyes widened in shock, his body trembling under the force of the blow. He staggered back, his form flickering as the rift to the underworld began to open.

"No..." he growled, his voice barely a whisper. "Not like this..."

Before he could react further, he was pulled toward the rift, his form disintegrating into the dark void. His last words were filled with rage and disbelief as the light consumed him.

"Good riddance," Zion muttered, the divine power still glowing around him.

The demon was gone, and the battlefield fell silent.
