Chapter 490: CXIX. Heaven Port Black Technology
Heaven Port is a place of hidden talents and unexpected figures. As a bridgehead between the Western Continent and the Far East, it became the most chaotic place in the world after the Emperor’s defeat in his eastern expedition.
If you’ve committed a crime, coming here to hide is definitely the right move.
This led to many reclusive and indifferent individuals residing on the island, people who mostly had no concern for current events and lived in seclusion.
Fen believed the potential had yet to be fully tapped. Mo Yutong wasn’t just the Holy Daughter of the Miracle of Suffering, but also a professor at Aran Royal Technical College. Like Liszt, she was an Otherworldly Visitor using Heaven Port’s resources and truly developing revolutionary things.
The biggest, and most severe, problem in the East Sea was the lack of information.
A round trip to the mainland took more than twenty days. By the time news of the Emperor’s death and a change of dynasty reached the East Sea, the civil war on the mainland would already be over.
The communication problem needed to be resolved first and foremost.
Theoretically, the transmission distance of radio waves is unlimited.
The images from the Voyager 1 spacecraft could be received on Earth even over 22 billion kilometers away, though the signal took about 20 hours to reach the Golden Eight Heavenly Country.
It depends on the wavelength, medium attenuation, transmitter power, and the transmission environment and equipment.
Under ideal conditions and without relay transmission, a typical transmitter can achieve a range of fifty kilometers.
But the mainland is simply too far, and for some reason, the Western Continent has extraordinarily high medium attenuation.
Mo Yutong did manage to develop a radio communicator, but its effective range was only twenty to thirty kilometers at best, not even enough to reach the nearest of the four fishing islands, let alone the Western Continent.
Due to the influence of the Magic Energy Industry, long-distance communication does exist, but the cost is so high that it’s unaffordable for the average person.
When Fen was with the Tower Alliance, the eleven Tower Masters rarely attended meetings in person, preferring to use crystal ball projections from their towers.
Though Fen wasn’t the most authoritative on Magic Array Inscriptions, he was a master in his own right. With his assistance, using Demon Crystals to enhance transmission power, longwave communication could be achieved without complicated or massive equipment.
Receiving Liszt’s letter this time, needing to dispatch strong forces to Mulong, with Heaven Port’s affairs settled, Fen naturally had to come in person.
After the Doringger campaign, they now held a dominant position in the East Sea.
If the Mulong campaign succeeded in controlling the transportation around the Narrow Sea, and they planted a flag there, they could intimidate the Four Seas and become unrivaled at sea, entering the top tier of the Underworld and becoming top players in the game.
Fen’s various strategies could be fully deployed.
Along the way, Fen also set up relay transmitters on the islands controlled by Black Sail, so communication with Heaven Port from the mainland became possible.
If Fen’s calculations were correct, the message delay to Heaven Port was around half a minute.
Fen hadn’t brought many people, considering long-term operations in a foreign country. Logistics were the most important. Heaven Port could mobilize ten thousand people, but would Lostra cover the expenses for ten thousand people till the end of the year?
Just like Liszt, they had a battleship and four medium-sized ships.
In the navigation room of the battleship.
The Far East Taikosha woman, Yakai Chiyoko, who used to work under Doringger, had also come along.
Due to Shadi’s overwhelming hormones, and being members of the same Qi Sect, she fell for him while treating his dark injuries. How could someone be so handsome?
Shadi was a dark elf with albinism; even his eyelashes were white, and his eyes were like rubies. She couldn’t help herself just thinking about it.
Being highly attractive and charming was so dull.
Goblin: Hello, madam, pardon me for taking your time. May I have the honor of dining with you tonight?
Beauty: Get lost, private heart-steamed goose.
Ultimate Handsome: Hey, wanna date?
Beauty: Sure, brother.
"Do you even know how to use it? Still an Upper House Member of the Warlock Council, yet not as smart as that woman."
Chiyoko watched Fen tinkering.
Since Chiyoko was now part of Black Sail, though just a thug, Fen insisted she maintain her image. She shouldn’t always look like a brothel woman, and with her foxy eyes, her constant short shorts were indecent.
She became more conservative, the shorts covering her hips. Her upper body still had a chest-binding band, stepping on clogs and carrying a Wild Tachi.
Fen tested the equipment every time they passed an island. They had already succeeded on Kersuna Island, one of the Southern Continent’s enclaves, now approaching Golden Palm Port. If this test succeeded, it would mean the East Sea was no longer cut off from information, with mainland messages received in real-time, albeit with a half-minute delay—which was very acceptable.
"Shut up."
Fen adjusted the frequency of the hefty iron box. Without a couple of strong men, it couldn’t be moved. Due to the chaos brought by the Magic Energy Industry, its internal structure wasn’t very precise, filled with many Soviet-style pipes.
Though large, the Flying Dragon had a complete and functional system.
Fen adjusted the tuner to Heaven Port’s frequency, picking up a brick-like audio input device that lacked any ergonomic design.
Every transmission, due to Demon Crystal consumption, cost over ten silver coins—a considerable amount, even for the naval fleet of Black Sail, equivalent to a sailor’s two-month salary.
If anyone wasted it on hours of idle chatting, Fen would grind their bones to dust. Each call should be as concise as possible, conveying as much information as possible in one message.
"This is the SS Jingbo. I’m Captain Fen, at the entrance of the Narrow Sea, tuning communication equipment. Please respond. Try using different voices or singing to confirm recognition, over."
Fen pressed the button.
The transmission took half a minute; a complete back-and-forth would require a minute of waiting.
Fen was quite excited.
This solved the problem of being isolated at sea, enabling real-time communication and allowing them to organize counter-strategies based on mainland information.
Chiyoko, having seen long-distance communication in action, knew that while it was costly for warlocks, this iron box, though not cheap, was relatively affordable.
A minute later.
Fen received a response, the microphone emitting a slightly crackling, raspy noise, along with an absurd message.
It was the voice of Heroic Level adventurer, Big Dragon Tooth, Weber.
"Wow, Mo Yutong, get over here. There’s a little man talking inside. Is it Gawain’s little toy, that elf, Lu? No, sounds male. Lu doesn’t have to work alone anymore. Are there wild elves in Heaven Port? That’s so rare. Who let it in?"
"I’ve had enough of you. Didn’t I tell you to stay put and not touch anything? Move aside, move aside.
Did it succeed? The information is complete, low noise, high recognition, and the delay matches expectations. Everything’s normal here, over."
The voice cut off.
"That will do. I’ll continue testing on land. Have someone ready at all times. No response needed, over."
Although ten silver coins weren’t a small number, Fen ended the test and began to think about other matters.
The processing lathe sent by the Atomic Heart Church was indeed very useful, solving all initial problems except for mineral smelting, bringing Heaven Port up to standard.
According to Mo Yutong’s plan, a power station was needed to keep a factory line running continuously. If it still relied on Demon Crystals, it wouldn’t be sustainable.
Although not fully mature, Heaven Port’s radio communications had a general framework.
Given Mo Yutong’s relationship with the Atomic Heart Church, they would definitely provide equipment support at no cost.
Fen believed there were many individuals like Liszt and Mo Yutong within the Pedan and Aran regimes, otherwise, such technological breakthroughs couldn’t be explained.
However, their problem lay in being controlled by authorities and internal religion-based conflicts, only able to produce strategic military resources.
Heaven Port needed a different approach, producing civilian goods to make money, like a simple pager for typing. Building a signal base station would allow people within a city to communicate freely, and it would surely be a hit.
As Liszt put it, release the MAX to capture the wealthy at ten gold dragons each, followed by a flagship for the middle-class at four gold dragons, and finally a mini version for a hundred silver coins targeting the average family.
It would be a huge moneymaker.
Investing this money into strategic resources would yield the quickest conversions.
Fen’s research in necromancy required a massive investment. If he completed the Ninth Rank Senluo Death Technique, would he become a god?
"Hey, your laugh is terrifying, big brother!"
Chiyoko was somewhat frightened by Fen’s grin; it looked more like a muscle spasm.
"Sorry, we’ll reach Golden Palm Port in two days. Be prepared, things there seem complicated."
Fen had high hopes for Mulong. Given Black Sail’s illicit status in Aran, their market was limited. Establishing good relations with Lostra and making a grand show of loyalty would make Lostra, the country’s richest after Aran, Black Sail’s largest market.
In Liszt’s words: Reap heavily, let the unwanted son devour the master.
