Hunter Warren looked at him coldly. "What did you just say?"
Roman Hughes chuckled wickedly. "Come on, stop pretending. I know your heart is racing right now.
Actually, Faye Townsend must have already hinted at this earlier, right? You’ve probably known the results for a while now."
Hunter pulled out the second set of results, which matched the ones for Miya.
He truly had prepared himself mentally.
But even so, there was still a faint sense of disappointment in his heart—that’s just how humans are, isn’t it?
There’s probably no one in the world who wanted these two children to be related to him more than he does.
Roman kept rambling on, but Hunter’s thoughts were a mess. After a moment of silence, he waved his hand. "Go home now. I need some time alone."
Roman, startled at the rejection, asked in confusion, "What’s with you? Isn’t this supposed to be good news?"
"Enough. Just leave now." Hunter slapped his hand on the table forcefully. "I need to be alone for a while."
Roman froze for a moment before nodding quickly. "Alright, alright, you want some peace. I’ll leave."
He shook his head. "Let me know if you need anything, okay?"
Hunter didn’t respond. Roman left, looking a bit dejected.
The test results were in Hunter’s hands, ones he had read over countless times.
It was absurd. How could it turn out like this?
Faye must not know yet, otherwise she wouldn’t have suggested doing a paternity test to convince Sebastian Sheldon to give up.
If Faye knew the results, how would she feel about it?
Hunter shook his head. He needed to calm down.
That afternoon, he called Faye to tell her he would pick her up from work.
Faye asked eagerly, "Have the test results come out yet?"
"Not yet. I checked with Roman earlier today. It seems there’s been some issue.
The results might take a while longer."
Faye sounded mildly disappointed. "Oh, alright then."
"I’m heading over now. Can you wrap up in fifteen minutes?"
"Sure, that’s more than enough time. I wasn’t too busy today."
"Good. Meet me downstairs, and we’ll see each other in fifteen."
"Alright."
After hanging up the call, Hunter dialed Roman.
Regarding the test results, he instructed Roman to keep it under wraps, claiming a machine malfunction as the reason.
Roman couldn’t understand Hunter’s reasoning for this.
But since it was Hunter’s request, he complied without question.
When Hunter arrived at Faye’s company building, she was on the phone with her head down.
From afar, he could see the faint smile on her face.
When she spotted his car, she waved. After the vehicle came to a halt, she opened the door and got in, still holding onto her phone.
With one hand, she fastened her seatbelt, and with the other, she continued speaking into the phone. "And what did he say?"
Watching her, Hunter leaned over to help buckle her seatbelt.
Then he quietly observed her handling the call.
The conversation lasted a while before Faye finally said, "Alright, Clara, I won’t keep chatting. My husband just picked me up. Let’s talk later. Mm, bye-bye."
Hanging up, Faye turned to look at him, casually tossing her phone into her bag.
"Let’s go."
Hunter curled his lips into a smile and started the engine.
"Why did you personally come out to drive today?"
"I thought about it: we hardly get any time just for ourselves.
A lifetime is so short, and I need to cherish every moment I have alone with you."
Faye turned to him, her lips curving upward, a faint blush coloring her face.
"You’re right. Life is really short. I’m already thirty without even noticing it."
"No need to sigh about it. Here you are with a man who’s almost forty."
Faye burst into laughter. "You finally admit you’re an old man."
"By the way, how could the People’s Hospital be so unreliable? At such an important moment, how could their machines break?
If Clara hadn’t called me earlier, I was about to call Roman and tell him to fix the equipment immediately."
Hunter chuckled quietly. "You seemed to enjoy chatting with Clara earlier. What’s the good news she shared?"
"Oh, right. I almost forgot—I was going to tell you as soon as I got off the call.
Clara said Sean Lennox’s family is urging her to have children."
Hunter nodded thoughtfully. "Considering Sean Lennox’s age, it makes sense that Clara is facing pressure to start a family."
"But do you know what Sean said?"
Hunter smirked but didn’t reply, waiting for Faye to spill the details herself.
"Sean told his parents that he just got married and is finally starting to enjoy life.
He has no intention of dealing with a little brat and ruining their couple time right now."
