Chapter 289: Chapter 211: Do I Need to Prove to You Once Again What It Means to Grow Old and Stay Strong? (2 more updates)
Walter Hansen put down his wine glass, and the chill on Faye Townsend’s face transformed into a warm smile.
She raised her brows slightly: "Walter, this is your favorite fried belt fish. Give it a try."
Walter Hansen looked at the fried belt fish but did not pick up his chopsticks.
Faye Townsend felt puzzled and asked, "What’s wrong? Did I remember incorrectly?
That shouldn’t be the case, I remember one year on your birthday, my dad specifically instructed the family chef to make your favorite dishes.
He said your favorite was fried belt fish."
Walter Hansen smiled bitterly and nodded: "Yes, it indeed used to be my favorite.
It’s just that no one has said this to me in so many years."
Faye Townsend smiled: "That’s because others don’t understand you.
By the way, Walter, my last visit was so rushed, I didn’t get the chance to ask.
Have you gotten married yet?"
"Not yet," Walter Hansen said as he picked up a piece of the fish and shook his head.
"Then why don’t you find a devoted and loyal person to marry?"
Walter Hansen raised his brows: "I haven’t met the right one yet."
"You’re getting on in years and still so picky.
You might find me nagging, but if my parents were here, I bet my dad would have said the same to you."
Walter Hansen laughed: "Yeah, if Uncle Townsend were here, he probably would have been arranging blind dates for me."
Faye Townsend’s face was smiling, but her fist clenched tightly under the table.
He knew it too, didn’t he?
He also knew how good my dad was to him.
But how can people’s hearts be so malicious?
Hunter Warren held her hand under the table and said to her: "What’s the matter with you? Today, we invited Mr. Hansen for dinner, yet you’re assuming the role of our parents, aren’t you?"
Faye Townsend looked slightly embarrassed as she turned to Hunter and pursed her lips: "I...I’m just concerned about Walter, you wouldn’t mind that, right?"
"Of course not, besides, you’re speaking the truth."
Faye Townsend picked up a piece of lotus root for him and placed it in his plate: "This is also one of your favorites, isn’t it?
I had it made according to my memory of the dishes you liked.
It’s been more than a decade, and I’m not sure if your tastes have changed.
The chef at home isn’t the same as before, give it a try and see if it suits your palate."
Walter Hansen’s eyes showed a touch of emotion; after so many years, no one knew anymore what he loved or hated to eat.
When he was poor, he wanted to make himself live like a rich man.
But when he actually acquired wealth, he realized he was still just as poor.
Facing Faye Townsend’s warm and caring inquiries at this moment, he couldn’t help but recall Uncle Townsend’s words from many years ago.
’People, no matter to what extent they live, will always have doubts and dissatisfaction with their own lives.
A life full of questioning will make progress.
While those who only harbor dissatisfaction will end up in complete disarray.’
"Walter, why aren’t you eating?"
Hearing Faye Townsend’s voice, Walter Hansen came back to his senses and smiled at her: "I will, you all eat too."
Throughout the meal, Hunter Warren did not say much, instead he silently observed Walter Hansen’s reactions.
Walter Hansen was not very talkative either, as Hunter Warren looked for any signs of doubt in him.
After the meal, Walter Hansen suggested discussing some business cooperation with Hunter Warren.
Hunter Warren invited him into the study; Faye Townsend went in once to serve tea during which the two men were indeed discussing business matters.
After leaving the study, Faye Townsend felt so stifled that she went to the courtyard to sit in the rocking chair and calm her emotions.
She knew that impatience could spoil great plans and that the time was not right yet, but it was truly suffocating.
Her parents’ spirits in heaven would probably be angry at her current state.
She didn’t know how long she had been sitting when suddenly the sound of a door being opened came from behind.
She sighed and turned back to look, it was Walter Hansen, and she raised her lips into a smile: "Walter, why have you come out, is the business discussion over?"
"It’s over. I saw you sitting in the courtyard, so I came out too."
Faye Townsend looked back at the house: "Where’s Hunter?"
"The second master is dealing with some business, on the phone."
Faye Townsend pointed to a table across from her: "Sit for a while?"
Walter Hansen walked over and sat down facing Faye Townsend.
The Faye Townsend under the moonlight had not changed at all from the girl he had admired ten years ago.
Time had been kind to her.
He did not speak; she turned her head and smiled.
"It’s like suddenly returning to our childhood."
Walter Hansen dropped his gaze, his hands folded together.
"I sometimes reminisce about the past too."
His gaze was slightly lowered; Faye Townsend frowned, her expression turning a bit grim.
Reminisce about the past? Does he think about mom and dad? Does he feel remorse?
"Actually, I haven’t reminisced about my childhood for many years.
