Chapter 240: Chapter 184 Do You Feel Happy Seeing Me Shackled? 2
Miya asked Darnley quietly, "Brother, did mom notice anything?"
"Definitely not. With her intelligence, she won’t waste time thinking about this. Don’t worry."
"I was scared to death just now."
Darnley raised his flour-covered hand to pat Miya’s head, "Don’t be afraid. You’ve got me."
Faye Townsend finished her shower and came out. Just as she was about to head downstairs, her phone rang.
Seeing it was Clara calling, she picked up the phone, "Hello, Clara. Didn’t we just talk this afternoon? Missing me already?"
"Hello, are you a friend of the phone owner?"
Faye felt a bit wary, "Uh, yes, I am."
"Hello, this is the Emergency Department of Anchester General Hospital. Your friend has just been in a car accident, and we couldn’t reach her family. Could you please come to the hospital?"
"Car accident?" Faye’s hand tensed on the door handle, "Is the owner of this phone the one in the accident?"
"This phone was taken from the victim’s bag, so it should be hers."
"Please do everything you can to save her. I’ll head to the hospital right away." After hanging up, Faye quickly changed her clothes.
She ran downstairs as if flying. Uncle Rivers saw her urgency and quickly approached from where Darnley and Miya were, "What happened, ma’am?"
"It seems Clara had a car accident. I need to rush to the hospital now.
Uncle Rivers, can you put Darnley and Miya to bed tonight?"
"You better go now." Uncle Rivers saw her out the door.
Darnley and Miya were puzzled watching their mom run out so soon after just coming back home.
Faye drove quickly out of the alley.
Upon reaching the hospital, she rushed to the emergency room.
Hearing she was a friend of the woman brought in from a recent accident, the nurse immediately brought her to the emergency room door.
"Your friend is being treated inside. When she was brought in, her head was covered in blood, and she was having difficulty breathing. The emergency doctors are working hard to save her, but there are a lot of unpaid bills that we need you to handle..."
"Give me the bill; I’ll pay it now."
Faye returned to the nurse’s station, took the bill, and went to pay.
After dealing with the bills, she took Clara’s bag from the nurse and sat quietly at the rescue room’s door, waiting for the results.
Faye rubbed her forehead and called Oliver Turner, but he wouldn’t answer even after three attempts.
She was really annoyed; just because they had a conflict, how could he not even answer her calls?
Did he have any idea how dangerous it was for Clara right now?
Faye covered her eyes with her hand, then quickly dialed Hunter Warren’s number.
Upon hearing she was at the hospital, Hunter, who was on his way home, decided to rush over immediately.
But Faye was worried that once she got in contact with Oliver Turner, he would also come.
If those two met, it would really be troublesome.
With Clara’s life hanging in the balance, she didn’t want to see them at odds in such a moment.
"You should head home and take care of the kids first.
I’m here, and perhaps Oliver Turner will come too. It’s best to avoid any conflicts at a time like this, don’t you think?"
Hunter understood Faye’s meaning.
He nodded, "Alright, I won’t go over. I’ll give Roman Hughes a call and have him come over to check things out."
"That... sounds good." Nobody here knew her, but everyone knew Roman Hughes.
In a place like a hospital, having an acquaintance is indeed helpful, that’s the truth.
Coincidentally, Roman Hughes wasn’t on duty tonight.
After receiving Hunter’s call, he rushed over to the hospital.
An hour passed, yet there was still no return call from Oliver Turner.
Now Faye was genuinely furious.
She called his company’s secretary’s office.
But at this hour... the secretaries had long gone home.
The servants at his home said he hadn’t arrived back yet.
He wouldn’t answer calls, and suddenly it was as if they were strangers, making it so difficult to reach him.
But right now, Clara clearly needed him...
Roman changed into surgical scrubs and went into the emergency room, and came out shortly afterward.
Faye asked nervously, "How is she?"
Roman took off his mask, shook his head, and walked over to her, "The situation isn’t very optimistic.
She suffered a head injury during the crash, causing intracranial bleeding.
This situation depends on her fate. The doctors are doing their best in there, so try not to worry too much."
After saying that, Roman looked around, "But why is it just you here? Where’s Oliver Turner? Isn’t he Clara’s guardian? Why hasn’t he shown up?"
"Oliver and I talked everything over this morning.
He might be upset, so he hasn’t been answering my calls.
I’m really anxious right now.
There’s no one in his office, and he’s not at home either. He’s really dropping the ball at a critical moment."
"Then send him a text message.
He’s the legal guardian of Clara. I noticed the doctors had you sign an additional signature on the surgery notice.
You’re quite bold. If Clara, God forbid, should die today, the responsibility would weigh heavily on you.
Why didn’t you consult me before signing?"
Faye lightly tapped his shoulder in reproach, "Don’t jinx it. Clara will be okay."
"Do you think this is a TV drama where you say it’s okay and it is?
This is a hospital; they’re really trying to save a patient with intracranial bleeding.
Do you know how easily such surgeries can result in death?
Not all miracles happen just for you to witness, okay?"
Looking at this woman really without any sense, it’s too late to scold her.
"Since Oliver Turner isn’t picking up your calls, send him a text.
If he doesn’t come after seeing the message, it would prove Clara’s life or death doesn’t matter to him."
"It’s useless. Oliver Turner said he hates checking messages the most, so most texts in his phone are unread."
"Send him one anyway, just in case. What if he reads this one?"
Faye thought it over and agreed.
She took out her phone, sent Oliver a text, and then found Xavier’s number she had saved earlier.
She tried calling, and surprisingly, it got through.
A casual voice came from the other end, "Hello, who is this?"
"Hello, is this Xavier?"
"Who is this?"
Faye breathed a sigh of relief, it was indeed Xavier, "Xavier, this is Faye. I’m not sure if Oliver is with you now."
"No, he’s not. Do you need him for something?" Xavier, sitting in a private room at the club, glanced at Oliver Turner beside him as he spoke.
"Yes, it’s urgent. Clara was in a car accident and brought to the hospital, she’s in surgery now.
I’ve been trying to reach him, but can’t get through. Could you please find him and ask him to come to the emergency rescue room at Anchester General Hospital as soon as possible?"
"What?" Xavier stood up, "Okay, okay, I’ll contact him right away. Please tend to things at the hospital temporarily."
After hanging up, Xavier patted Oliver’s shoulder, "Hurry up, Clara’s severely injured in a car accident, being resuscitated in the hospital now."
In that instant, Oliver Turner’s face turned ashen, he didn’t even grab his coat before rushing out with Xavier.
"How could she get into an accident? Did Faye say anything else?"
"She said she tried calling you several times with no answer and asked me to help find you and hopes you get to the hospital quickly."
Once they were in the car and on the way, Oliver checked his phone, seeing eleven missed calls and a text, all from Faye.
He glanced at the text message: Oliver, where are you? Get to the hospital quickly, Clara is in a car accident, with intracranial bleeding, in critical condition, she needs you now.
Oliver tightly clutched the phone in his palm. Just a moment ago, he was somewhat pleased with himself thinking that not answering Faye’s calls might retaliate against her somewhat.
Now, he regretfully wanted to slap himself.
Why let his anger with Faye make him miss the opportunity to learn the news at the first instant?
If something happened to Clara and he didn’t get to see her one last time because of this, he’d most likely spend his lifetime in remorse.
When Xavier and Oliver arrived at the hospital, Roman Hughes sat waiting on a bench with his legs crossed.
Faye was anxiously pacing back and forth in the corridor, looking very worried.
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway.
She turned to see Oliver Turner, her expression immediately cooling.
Oliver approached, "Faye, how’s the situation?"
With his arrival, the burden in Faye’s heart somewhat eased.
But the anger accumulated because of his absence finally couldn’t be contained.
"Where on earth were you? Why didn’t you answer the calls?
If it was only one or two, I could understand you were angry.
But why didn’t you answer any of the dozens of calls?
Did you never think I genuinely had an emergency to find you?
How could you be so selfish?
If we can’t be a couple, do you have to be so heartless worse than a stranger?
If you missed out on Clara because of this, won’t you regret it?"
Xavier saw such a beautiful woman losing her temper for the first time; he stood beside Oliver, looking at him then Faye.
Honestly, it was the first time he saw Oliver being reprimanded so silently from beginning to end.
In the past, who dared give this big shot such grief?
"Faye, it’s a misunderstanding. Oliver was just in a business meeting." Xavier patted Oliver’s shoulder, "Right, Oliver."
"What’s so great about a business meeting? Doesn’t everyone have them?
If someone never bothers you with trivial matters yet calls repeatedly, wouldn’t you think something must be wrong?
Luckily, I didn’t rely on him to save my life, or I’d have been dead hundreds of times."
Even Roman sitting behind heard Faye’s yelling loud enough to make him slowly lower his crossed legs and sit more upright.
He inwardly thought: Wow, she’s a real tigress.
"Faye, if you want to scold me, there’s plenty of time, but first tell me, how is Clara?"
