Chapter 237: Chapter 181 Very Skilled in the Art of Negotiation 2
"Wait a minute, cancel all your dates today. I found out there’s a new movie out. You take Brooke to see it."
"Why?"
"Because she’s your fiancée. Because you’ve wronged her. Hurry up, and give the card back to Brooke.
Uncle Rivers, arrange a car for my brother and sister-in-law to take them to the cinema."
Uncle Rivers glanced at Richard Townsend and quickly turned around to arrange the car. What’s going on, is the young master getting married?
Eliana Brooke quickly said, "Director Townsend, no need. I don’t really like watching movies."
"These interests are developed over time. You don’t know each other well, it’s a good opportunity to have a few conversations."
Richard Townsend put his hands in his pockets, staring at Eliana Brooke while bouncing his leg.
Seeing her looking troubled, Richard Townsend smirked. There’s never been a woman who didn’t want to go to the movies with him.
He stepped forward and grabbed Eliana Brooke’s wrist, "Alright, since my sister planned it this way, I’ll reluctantly watch a movie with you."
Eliana Brooke didn’t even look at him. She nodded at Faye Townsend in thanks, "Thank you, Director Townsend."
She didn’t want to make Director Townsend uncomfortable.
"I told you we’re family now, no need for formalities. Have fun." Faye Townsend patted her shoulder and sent the two of them out.
On either side of the door was a car—her personal car on the left, the family car on the right.
After Richard and Eliana got into the car on the right, the car lights came on, illuminating her car on the other side.
For a moment, a strange thought crossed her mind.
If the two cars parked opposite each other both have dashcams, could they have recorded each other?
The night before their parents’ accident, Richard’s car was parked opposite their parents’ car. So could it have captured something?
As the car taking Richard and them slowly disappeared from sight, silence returned around her.
She furrowed her brows deeply. Uncle Rivers stood by and said, "Miss, you’d better go in and eat the noodles, or they’ll get mushy."
"Uncle Rivers, are our family’s old computers still around?"
"The old computers?"
"Yeah, the ones used before my parents’ accident."
She remembered there used to be someone responsible for downloading the content from her brother’s car dashcam daily to monitor his activities.
Because he was always out causing trouble, and their father was worried, he would check on him this way.
She’s not sure if the recordings were copied to a USB, but if the computers are still there, the records might still be on the hard drive.
"I have to go to the warehouse and look for them."
"Then, Uncle Rivers, could you please go to the old house and search for them?"
She glanced at her watch. Richard was probably watching a movie now. She’d let Uncle Rivers go after he finishes.
"Alright, Miss."
The driver parked at the cinema entrance, and Richard Townsend and Eliana Brooke got out together.
While the driver went to park, Richard folded his arms and leaned towards Eliana Brooke, "I thought you had more backbone. Turns out..."
"Richard Townsend, give me the card back." She stretched out her hand towards him.
"Why should I? That’s my card."
"Those were Director Townsend’s instructions. If you don’t give it back, I’ll have to call Director Townsend.
I assume you don’t want me causing a rift between you and Director Townsend, right?"
Eliana Brooke’s face was cold. Richard glared at her for a moment, reluctantly pulled out his wallet, and yanked out the card, tossing it at her, "Here you go."
She bent down but missed it, and the card fell to the ground. Eliana Brooke looked up at him angrily.
Richard shrank his neck. This woman’s gaze... does she have any sense of style?
He scratched his brow, "It’s your fault for being too slow to catch it."
Eliana Brooke couldn’t be bothered with him, bent down to pick up the card, and walked away.
Richard grabbed her wrist, "Where are you going? Aren’t we watching a movie?"
Eliana Brooke shook off his hand, "You and I are both annoyed. Instead of awkwardly watching a movie, let’s not ruin those good movies."
She finished speaking and walked away, Richard couldn’t help but curse, "Damn it," he’d been rejected?
He stepped in front of her, blocking her path, "You think you’re the only woman in the world who’s so tough, huh?"
Anyway, this woman always managed to incense him.
He’s never met a woman who could find so much trouble with him.
If she had just obediently followed him like other women when he liked her initially.
Would he have had to go to such lengths?
This is just great. He just used some means to have her once, and now he has to marry her?
He pushed her against the pillar behind her, "Let me tell you, Eliana Brooke, just because Faye gave you some face, don’t forget who you are.
Am I, Richard Townsend, someone you can reach?
Look at your poor state, you should be grateful I’m even willing to marry you, understand?
Don’t be a damn unappreciative fool."
Eliana Brooke sneered, "Honestly, you’re indeed lucky to be born well, to have a good sister.
With your kind of person, without Director Townsend, you wouldn’t even be able to beg for food as a beggar.
Do you know why? Because you’re downright despicable.
Get out of my way, don’t block my path."
She pushed him away and ran down the stairs.
Richard watched Eliana Brooke run off into the distance in frustration. She called him despicable?
How was he so unwilling to accept that? He caught up to her, "You’re really asking for it, daring to insult my character..."
"Then do you dare to make a bet with me."
"A bet?" Richard arched his brow slightly, "Bet what?"
"It’s simple. Call your good friends, the ones you think you’re closest to, and tell them you’ve been kicked out by Director Townsend, you have no money, and ask them to take you in for a while and lend you a million."
Richard sneered, "What’s kind of bet is that?"
"Why isn’t it? I bet you won’t get a penny."
"And what if I do get it?"
"I’ll listen to whatever you say from now on.
I’ll give you back this bank card and never listen to Director Townsend to make things difficult for you."
"Heh, you said it." Richard pulled out his phone, giving her a mocking look as he called the first number, "Liang, where are you? Fortune Harbour, ah, well, I just broke up with my sister, I’ve been kicked out by the Townsend Group and have no money. Can you take me in for a few days and lend me a million?"
"Um... Brother Tong, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, you know, my place is small, and it’s not convenient for two people to live, besides, my dad took my card, so I’m really sorry..."
"Ah, never mind, I’ll find someone else." After hanging up, Richard’s face darkened a bit.
Eliana Brooke let out a mocking laugh.
"Don’t underestimate people." Richard said, and called the second, third... until the eighth call ended, his face was entirely blackened.
Although the reasons differed, all his usual ’buddies’ unanimously refused him.
Eliana Brooke looked at him sarcastically, "Go on, keep calling."
Richard looked at her coldly, "No one to help you, right," she shook her purse, "you can call me, maybe I’ll help you."
Richard ground his teeth, glaring at her, "Don’t be smug, Eliana Brooke."
Unfazed, Eliana Brooke stepped closer, just a few centimeters away.
"Richard Townsend, do you know how others see you?
A parasite, you’re just a parasite.
A parasite leeching off your sister, who can be leached by others too.
Whenever you lavishly spend the money your sister earns working hard, treating others to eat, drink, and have fun.
They may talk nicely about you superficially, treat you like a brother, but in reality, they only see you as a fool, a sucker."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Richard was enraged by Eliana Brooke’s words, raising his hand to push her.
But as he was furious, he didn’t control his strength, causing Eliana Brooke to stagger backward and fall.
Yet she was entirely unyielding, still stubbornly glaring at him with her head held high.
"All you do is make trouble with women, and bully those who care about you, right?"
Richard clenched his fist, teeth grinding as he glared at her, "Who’s asking you to meddle, mind your own business from now on."
Eliana Brooke stood up, dusted herself off, rolled her eyes at him, "Fine, then mind your own business too."
She turned and left, and this time, Richard didn’t chase after her.
After she walked off, he raised his left hand to knock his right hand, "Why did you push her?"
Looking up again, Eliana Brooke was already out of sight.
Richard stared at his phone, a chilly feeling in his eyes.
Couldn’t watch the movie, not interested in the bar now either.
When Faye called, he was just strolling back home from near the cinema alone.
After walking such a long way, suddenly his mind felt much clearer.
Sometimes it’s not that he’s unaware of certain things, he just chooses not to acknowledge them.
Today, Eliana Brooke’s meddling hit him like a hammer, embarrassing him in front of her. He couldn’t express how upset he was.
When he answered Faye’s call, his tone was like he was ready for a fight, "What?"
"Finished watching the movie?"
"What’s it to you?"
"What kind of tone is that, arguing with Brooke?" Faye laughed. Watching a movie and getting all worked up, he really was something else.
"Stop with the nonsense. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up."
"Alright, let’s get to business. I sent Uncle Rivers to the old house, and I need you to find someone to help him search for those old computers we used.
The warehouse is a bit messy, Uncle Rivers might not handle it alone."
"What do you need those old computers for?"
"Today I suddenly remembered, didn’t you say that day you fell asleep in the car and woke up to see Walter Hansen coming out of our parents’ car? Could your car’s surveillance have captured anything?"
"Are those records on our family computers?"
"Yes, during that time, Dad worried you’d get into trouble outside, so he had someone download the content from your dashcam daily.
