Chapter 208: Chapter 165: Be Gentle, It Hurts a Lot
Standing across from him, Roman Hughes couldn’t help but shiver at his insincere smile.
If it weren’t for Hunter Warren, he really wouldn’t know who else could handle such a monster.
Luckily, the Warren Group didn’t fall into his hands back in the day, otherwise, Hunter might have been tormented to death by him a few times already.
"I want to visit my sister-in-law, why are there so many strict demands?
Although the taste of my sister-in-law is indeed not bad, are you afraid I would feast on her in such a public place?"
Roman Hughes was completely taken aback. He seemed to already imagine the murderous expression of Hunter Warren on the other end of the line.
What does it mean that my sister-in-law’s taste is not bad? It clearly implies he had a fling with Faye Townsend.
"Lucas, listen carefully. No man other than me or the doctors can set foot in Faye Townsend’s ward.
I don’t care what your plans are for returning, but keep your distance from Faye; otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless."
Lucas Warren sneered: "When have you even shown me the least bit of affection?"
After saying this, he directly hung up the phone.
Roman Hughes maintained his signature smile and looked at him: "How’d it go, big brother?"
"Just as you expected, my brother is really..." He handed the phone to Roman Hughes.
"But it’s no big deal. Since he doesn’t let me see her in the hospital, I’ll just see her outside.
Please help me give her these flowers. I’ll take my leave now."
He casually stuffed the flowers into Roman Hughes’s arms.
Two grown men standing at the elevator, one handing the other a bouquet of roses. The scene was a bit strange.
But Roman Hughes pursed his lips and smiled: "Alright, leave this task to me. Big brother, take care, I have other things so I won’t see you off."
Lucas Warren glanced in the direction of the ward, smiled, and then turned to leave.
After Roman Hughes watched him leave, his smile faded a little. He returned to the nurse’s station and put the roses there: "Put these roses at the nurse’s station.
Remember, from now on, if someone wants to visit Mrs. Warren in bed 21, they must have Second Master Warren’s consent.
If something goes wrong, losing a job would be minor, but never being able to find a job again is major."
"Understood, Dr. Hughes."
The nurses exchanged glances and nodded individually.
Hunter Warren appeared in the ward twenty minutes later.
Faye Townsend was watching "Running, Brother," and giggling at Zoe Wellington.
When Hunter Warren entered, Faye glanced at the clock on the wall: "It’s only just past two, why are you here already?"
Hunter Warren walked straight to her and hugged her tightly.
Faye was stunned for a moment before wrapping her infusion-bandaged hand around him: "What happened?"
Hunter sighed: "Faye, I’ve never been afraid of anything in my life, but now I realize there’s one thing that terrifies me to my core: I’m terribly afraid of losing you."
Hearing Hunter say this, Faye couldn’t help but feel happy inside.
But it’s obvious his emotions are very unstable right now.
"Did you come here just to tell me this?
Did something happen? Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so impulsive."
Hunter held her tightly: "Lucas is back."
Faye furrowed her brow, and the smile on her lips suddenly froze.
"But don’t worry, I’ll protect you. I won’t let you suffer even a bit at Lucas’s hands again."
Faye tightened her grip around Hunter’s arms.
She wasn’t afraid of being hurt herself, but she dreaded the thought of him getting hurt.
No one knows that Hunter Warren isn’t as strong and fearless as everyone thinks.
He has secrets hidden deep within his heart.
He’s not a god; he’s just an ordinary person who can keep his feelings concealed.
"I’ll protect you too." Faye embraced him, finding an inexplicable sense of security in her heart.
If the two of them could stay tightly bound together, then everything life throws at them would be just a test.
Who in this world hasn’t undergone some trials? With him by her side, she’s willing to face them with a smile.
"What should we have for dinner tonight?"
Faye released her hold on him and looked at him: "Honestly, I’m craving the instant noodles you made.
I still remember you made it for me once after my middle school exams."
Hunter Warren smiled: How could I forget? She even gave his noodles the name ’Hunter’s Loving Noodles.’
In fact, that’s the only time he’s ever made noodles in his life, and they were half-cooked at best.
Watching her eat so happily, he couldn’t help but try a bite himself, but instantly spat it all out.
The taste of instant noodles was so unappealing that he never wanted to try it again.
He just couldn’t figure out why she thought it was tasty.
"I won’t let you have instant noodles, just like hotpot—they’re off-limits for us both.
Let’s order tonight’s dinner from the Wine Fairy Residence."
Faye nodded, "Alright, whatever you say. But don’t you have work this afternoon?"
"I asked Shang Yi to bring all the documents here. I’ll be working while keeping you company."
Faye smiled sideways: "Hey, are you one of those legendary overprotective husbands?"
"Is that a problem?"
"I couldn’t ask for more." She smiled sweetly, and Hunter couldn’t help but lean down to kiss her lips.
He exhaled: "Can’t do this, Faye; I’m losing control again. I need to restrain myself. I’ll settle this with you once you’re out."
Shang Yi knocked and came in, bringing in all the work documents.
Hunter was really busy and could only manage to work on the coffee table.
In the evening, the staff from Wine Fairy Residence came to bring their dinner, and Roman Hughes also dropped by to join in.
After dinner, Roman lingered as a third wheel. Hunter subtly signaled him to leave several times, but Roman acted like he didn’t notice; he just enjoyed teasing the couple.
Around past eight, just as he was preparing to leave, he received a phone call.
A nurse from the Bone Department called, saying an emergency patient had specifically requested his assistance.
"Specifically requested me? Don’t they know I’m off duty?"
"But she said she’s your friend, Dr. Hughes, and I heard that girl is quite miserable, as if she’s been a victim of domestic violence." The nurse wasn’t sure if she was oversharing.
Upon hearing the words domestic violence, Roman’s headache intensified: "What’s the patient’s name?"
"Dr. Hughes, please hold on, I’ll call to ask."
Roman walked to the door. He didn’t hang up the phone. After the nurse completed the call, he only heard the nurse say on the other end: "Dr. Hughes, I checked with the emergency department, the patient’s name is Sebastian Sheldon."
Roman Hughes rubbed his brow irritably; it was truly a dilemma.
He glanced at Hunter, who was busying himself with his beloved wife and didn’t acknowledge him at all.
"Alright, I got it." He hung up the phone and said to both of them: "Hunter, Faye, I have to visit the ER, a patient there has specifically requested me."
"You can go and don’t worry about coming back," Hunter promptly gave him a dismissal order.
Roman Hughes rolled his eyes: "Heartless, you’re the best at burning bridges after crossing."
He left, and Hunter stroked Faye’s face: "Wait here for me; I’ll get a towel to wipe your face."
"Sure." Faye laughed eagerly watching him walk into the bathroom.
Honestly, seeing him fuss over her so attentively felt really nice.
Hunter was so gentle as he helped her wash her face. After a couple of wipes, he couldn’t resist pressing her onto the bed for a good kiss. It wasn’t until she patted his shoulder that he finally stopped.
With his head resting on her shoulder, Hunter said frustratedly: "Oh, you little minx, you’re really driving me crazy."
"Hunter Warren, did you die unsatisfied in your last life?"
Hearing her, Hunter couldn’t help but laugh: "If I really died unsatisfied, would you have waited until 29 to jump into my bed?
Way back when you set your eyes on me at 15, I might have already had my way with you."
"Get lost, you heartless man; at fifteen, I was still a kid, alright?"
Hunter raised an eyebrow: "I used to think that too, which is why I kept my distance from you, always trying to be the radiant big brother in your eyes.
Just like Henry Sullivan was, being gentle and indulgent with you.
But only in these past few years, did I realize that at fifteen, you were already mature enough to be subjected to my will."
"You shameless scoundrel." Faye glared at him.
Hunter laughed heartily: "How do you account for wanting to pounce on me at fifteen?"
"Can you not talk about that? You, you old piece of jerk, have no shame at all."
"Old?" Hunter’s lips moved slightly closer to her ear: "Correction, I’m in my prime, full of energy; you should know this very well."
Faye blushed, raising her hand to hit him lightly on the arm: "I don’t want to talk about this with you; it feels like I’ll be led astray by you at any moment."
Hunter burst out laughing; her bashfulness was the most enticing look.
Roman Hughes returned to the on-call room of the Bone Department.
When he entered, Sebastian was curled up in a chair in the corner; she wouldn’t let anyone touch her, looking fragile.
He slowly approached, and the on-duty doctor in orthopedics sighed in relief upon seeing him: "Dr. Hughes, you finally arrived."
Roman gave him a glance: "Alright, everyone out. Leave a nurse at the door to wait for me, and the rest of you get busy."
"Got it."
The room emptied, only then did Sebastian slowly lift her head to look at him: "He’s not at the door, is he?"
"He? You mean Lucas Warren?"
Sheldon narrowed her pupils slightly and nodded.
"No, don’t worry. Even if he were here now, he wouldn’t dare do anything."
Roman Hughes went to the side and casually grabbed a white coat to put on before returning to her side.
"Where are you hurt?"
Sebastian looked down at her arm.
Roman gently pulled her right arm, hearing her immediately moan in pain: "Ah...be gentle, it hurts terribly."
Roman sighed. Honestly, in his life, he’d only heard of domestic violence, and Sebastian was the only case he knew personally where someone was beaten to the point of fractures.
