Chapter 207: Chapter 164: Lucas Warren, He’s Back 2

Faye Townsend couldn’t remember the name, just found it pleasing to the eye.

"How did it happen, to end up with acute enteritis?"

"I was starving on my way back yesterday, so I ate some street hot pot."

"Oh dear, your delicate stomach is so fragile."

Clara sat by the bed: "I’ve never heard of anyone actually ending up in the hospital from eating that."

"Alright, stop making fun of me. How did it go for you when you went back yesterday? Did Oliver scold you?"

"No, but he’s ignoring me now." Clara shrugged: "He acts like this when he’s mad, but he probably knows it’s not my fault, so he even had breakfast with me this morning.

I’m afraid he’ll keep being mad, so I’m not staying at the villa tonight, no matter what."

Faye laughed: "But you really let that Olivia bully you before, why are you so weak?"

"She’s just a shrew, I don’t want to stoop to her level, okay?"

Just as Clara finished speaking, her phone rang. She glanced at it and hung up.

Faye raised an eyebrow: "Why aren’t you answering?"

"It’s not an important call."

But then the phone rang again, and she hung up once more.

This back-and-forth was getting on Clara’s nerves.

Faye asked: "Who is it, could it be Victor Jude?"

"Who else would be so annoying if not him?"

"What if it’s actually something urgent?"

"Faye, I know him better than you do. It’s nothing but apologies and saying things like he won’t let Olivia harm me again.

I’ve heard it a million times, but it’s just talk that doesn’t change anything. He’s burdened with the entire family’s interests, he wouldn’t dare to be reckless."

Faye raised an eyebrow: "So... the talk about divorce last night was just talk too?"

"What else?"

Faye thought for a moment and said: "Let me answer for you."

Clara tossed her the phone; Faye took the call.

"Clara, Clara, you finally decided to answer my call."

"Mr. Jude, it’s Faye."

Victor Jude was momentarily stunned: "Why are you answering Clara’s phone?"

"What does Mr. Jude need from Clara?"

"Let her listen, I have something to say to her."

Faye pursed her lips: "If she wanted to listen, it wouldn’t be me answering. If you have something to say, just say it, I can pass it along."

"I just want to apologize."

"Clara already guessed that you’d either apologize or promise there won’t be a next time.

She said she’s heard it enough and doesn’t want to hear it anymore."

Faye looked at Clara, who seemed indifferent.

"Does Clara want me to divorce her to forgive me?"

"If I remember correctly, it was you who brought up divorce at the police station last night. It’s got little to do with Clara."

Victor hesitated for a moment: "I have my difficulties too."

"Clara knows you have your difficulties, and that’s why she doesn’t want to trouble you.

But Mr. Jude, as Clara’s friend, I really want to remind you not to hurt a woman you truly loved with your difficulties.

Clara endured being hit because of you; she used to care about you as a friend, but your current actions are pushing that friend further and further away from you.

If you really care for Clara, then stop calling her."

Clara nodded at Faye, who promptly ended the call.

Clara smiled: "Do you believe he’ll call back immediately?"

Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, the phone rang again.

Faye quickly tossed the phone aside: "Ugh, Victor Jude is so persistent."

Clara put her phone on silent and threw it into her bag: "This isn’t persistence, this is obsession.

He’s projecting his ’guilt’ onto me, but we both know he has no need to feel guilty towards me because we’re not even in a romantic relationship."

Faye raised an eyebrow: "Clara, have you ever thought that, just like you’re hopelessly in love with Oliver, perhaps Victor is madly in love with you.

It’s because he’s madly in love that he’s so persistent."

Clara pursed her lips: "Faye, let me say something from the bottom of my heart.

Back then, if he hadn’t suddenly married Olivia, I was already planning to marry him."

Faye stayed silent.

"Remember when you said if I don’t want to follow in your footsteps, I should find a man who loves me more than I love him to marry.

Back then, I thought Victor Jude was that person, and for a time, we were indeed very close. But one day, he suddenly told me that for the sake of his family’s business, he had to marry Olivia.

Someone who can give up their so-called ’true love’ for family business, I can only say his love wasn’t deep enough, so he’s simply not the man I should marry."

Faye nodded; with Clara’s situation, only she has the right to have a say. Faye, as an outsider, had no right to comment much.

After staying with Faye for a while, Clara left.

Faye lay in the room resting alone. Although getting sick was purely accidental, it was a rare vacation, so she simply accepted it.

Having not slept well the previous night, a quiet hospital room was perfect for resting.

Roman Hughes had a half-day clinic in the morning, and only found time to visit her in the afternoon.

As soon as he entered, seeing Faye getting an IV while watching TV, he joked with a laugh as he approached: "My dear cousin, why are you in the hospital again?"

"What do you mean again, I haven’t been hospitalized in years." Faye glanced at him: "How come you have time to come up?"

"Came up to check on you, your man Hunter Warren is quite busy. He called me four or five times this morning to urge me to look after you.

Look at you, spry as a dragon, who needs taking care of?"

Faye rolled her eyes at him: "Alright, stop complaining to me. I know you’re busy, go do your thing, I’m fine, nothing’s wrong."

She was actually quite enjoying being alone in the room watching TV.

"No way, I need to at least keep you company for a bit." Roman said, already sitting beside her bed: "I do have something to apologize for."

When he mentioned an apology, Faye knew exactly what he was talking about.

"No worries, it’s not your fault, honestly, I’ve come to terms with it a long time ago. Many people, many things, when they come, they come."

They were always there, it’s not like she could avoid facing them.

When she first saw Sebastian return, she had already come to terms.

Instead of constantly blaming others, it’s better to accept and face it frankly.

Roman shrugged: "But no matter how you put it, it was because I said you and Hunter weren’t happy that gave her the opportunity to come back, so I do have some responsibility."

Faye rolled her eyes at him: "As I said, it doesn’t matter. Apologizing doesn’t solve anything, so stop doing these useless things, OK?"

"Alright, since you insist so strongly, I’ll forgive myself then." Roman laughed lightheartedly.

The door was opened from outside, and a nurse stood at the entrance looking at Roman: "Dr. Hughes, the ER is calling for you."

"Alright, I’m coming." Roman stood up, patted her shoulder: "I’ll come back later, you keep watching TV."

"You focus on your work, no need to worry about me."

Roman didn’t bother responding, already turning to leave the room.

He had just reached the nurse’s station when he saw a tall, handsome man stepping out of the elevator holding a bouquet of red roses.

Upon seeing this man, Roman instinctively froze in his steps, looking at him with disbelief.

Lucas Warren, he was back.

As Roman hesitated, Lucas also noticed him.

The smile on Lucas’s lips was tainted with a chill that penetrated Roman’s very bones.

He stepped towards Roman: "Dr. Hughes, it’s been years, and you’re still as charming as ever."

Roman regained some composure and smiled back: "Brother Warren, indeed it’s been a long time. What brings you here?"

"I heard Faye is sick, so I came to check on her."

Roman squinted slightly: "So you’re here to see your sister-in-law.

What a pity, but you know Hunter’s temper, he protects his wife too well.

No one is allowed to visit her room without his permission."

"Protect?" Lucas gave a sidelong smile: "To me, calling it protection seems exaggerated.

Isn’t this controlling Faye’s personal freedom?"

"Brother Warren, that’s quite overstated.

You know just as well; Hunter and Faye are both very wealthy people.

There are countless people coveting their fortune.

Hunter does this just to prevent anyone from targeting Faye; it’s definitely protection.

But no matter what, you’re family, so exceptions can be made."

Roman spoke as he pulled out his phone: "When Hunter’s not around, I’m Faye’s guardian, so I’ll help you ask him."

As he said this, he quickly dialed Hunter Warren’s number.

Hunter surprisingly picked up the call quickly.

"What is it? Make it quick."

"Hey, you with the short temper, got something to report.

Brother’s back and wants to see your wife.

Didn’t you say even if a fly wanted to fly into the hospital room to visit your wife, it would need your permission?"

"Brother?" Hunter’s expression turned cold: "If you dare let him in, I’ll cut ties with you."

"Yeah, that’s why I’m calling you." Roman pretended not to hear the latter part of the sentence.

"Here’s the thing, why don’t you talk to Brother yourself." Not waiting for Hunter’s agreement, Roman already handed the phone to Lucas: "Here, Brother, you talk to him directly."

The hot potato was successfully passed off.

Lucas took the phone to his ear: "My dear brother."
