Chapter 223: Chapter 212: The Child No One Dotes On, He Dotes On (Part 1)
"Get her out of here! I don’t know this person!" Huo Li shouted angrily.
Tong Airui had no intention of letting this woman in anyway. Hearing Huo Li’s outburst, he raised his hand slightly, and two subordinates immediately stepped forward and pulled her aside.
Two female police officers hurried over, snapping a pair of cold handcuffs onto Fei Li’s wrists and dragging her away.
Fei Li struggled, shouting toward the hospital room, "Huo Li, I was forced to do it! I never wanted this!"
"Out! Out! Out!" Huo Li covered her ears with both hands, shaking her head frantically.
Yi Luowa saw that she was losing control and quickly grabbed her hands. "Huo Li, the IV is replenishing your blood; don’t do this. She’s already gone."
Yi Luowa hugged her tightly, patting her shoulder repeatedly. Huo Li gradually calmed down. "Piggy, just put me out of my misery! I really don’t want to live anymore!"
"Why do you keep saying that word?! If you die, what do you expect me to do?" Yi Luowa raised her arm and smacked her lightly.
Huo Li stared at her steadily. "You have Tong Airui. He treats you well. I’d feel at ease leaving you to him."
"We’re still young. Whose life has always been smooth sailing? Think about me—I was no better off before. I met Tong Airui, and you will meet your true soulmate too. Life will definitely get better." Yi Luowa looked at her with reddened eyes. "Piggy, until your true soulmate shows up, let’s get through this together. I’ll take you away, leave this place behind, and start a brand-new life."
"..." Huo Li gazed at her silently. A brand-new life? In her state, where could a brand-new life come from?
"Huo Li, you’ll definitely love our new home. The estate is huge, a pastoral dream, full of little animals. You love animals so much; you can feed them every day. Once you’re there, I promise I won’t fight you for Uncle. I also promise I won’t argue with you, as long as you live well, I’ll do whatever you want."
Huo Li blinked, "Sounds good in theory. If I really go, you’ll definitely fight me for Uncle."
"I won’t! Never!" Yi Luowa raised her right hand. "I swear..."
Huo Li pulled her hand down. "Piggy, I’ll just be a burden if I go there—a burden alive and a burden dead. Don’t bother swearing."
Yi Luowa dropped her head in frustration. "Alright, fine. Go ahead and die. I’ll follow shortly after."
Huo Li licked her cracked lips. "You’re doing just fine. Why would you follow me?"
"You’re impossible! I won’t persuade you anymore. How do you want to die? Jump off another building? Or should I buy you some medicine? I think slitting your wrists could work too. Watching the blood drain slowly is rather poetic." Yi Luowa eyed her own wrist as she spoke. "We can take turns cutting—makes it easier."
"Yi Luowa!" Huo Li bellowed in warning. The force of her shout tugged at her wound, and she sucked in a sharp breath from the pain.
Yi Luowa pretended not to see, opening the nightstand drawer to rummage through it. "There’s nothing decent to use here. I’ll ask the doctor for a couple of blades later. Piggy, what do you think will happen to my uncle if we both die? Sigh... why am I even thinking about him when we’re about to die? Once we close our eyes, we won’t have to care about how he survives. Isn’t that right?"
Huo Li glared at her fiercely, gritting her teeth, as Yi Luowa continued her monologue.
Ignoring her, Yi Luowa turned toward the door. "Fourth Brother, my legs aren’t convenient. Can you help me get a couple of blades?"
Standing outside the door, Tong Airui twitched the corner of his mouth and quickly stepped inside. "Uncle just called. I told him about Huo Li. He said you should take Huo Li back to Xiawu. He said, ’A child who has no one to care for them, I’ll care for her.’
Huo Li’s tears spilled uncontrollably. A child who has no one to care for them. Uncle cares. That simple statement warmed her heart instantly.
Yi Luowa stole a glance at her and then turned toward Tong Airui. "Can we leave before everything here is resolved?"
Tong Airui nodded. "I’ve found a lawyer. After the police finish recording statements, we can go. The rest will be handled by the lawyer."
"What about Huo Li’s injury? Will she be okay?" Yi Luowa asked worriedly.
"Old Seven is currently discussing with the doctors. We’ll wait for his update."
As Tong Airui finished speaking, Mai Zekai entered with two doctors. "Fourth Brother, Fourth Sister-in-law, please step out for a moment. The doctors need to examine Huo Li’s injuries before making any decisions."
Tong Airui bent down and scooped Yi Luowa into his arms.
Huo Li watched them leave the room before turning to Mai Zekai. "Is Yi Luowa’s injury on her leg serious?"
"Yes. But she came here dragging her wounded leg just for you. If you think about killing yourself again, you’d really be letting her down."
Huo Li sniffled. "The only things I can’t let go of in this world are Piggy and Uncle."
Outside the door, Yi Luowa heard this clearly. She raised her eyes to Tong Airui. "Fourth Brother, does this mean she won’t think about suicide anymore?"
Tong Airui remained expressionless but nodded. "You two are so close it makes me jealous. Even wanting to live and die together—what about me? Where does that leave me?"
"If you’re not afraid of upsetting our parents, the three of us can go together," Yi Luowa teased, reaching her hand toward his underarm.
Tong Airui clamped her small hand tightly. "Enough! When she’s alive, she competes with me for you. If she’s dead, I still have to share you with her? No way!"
Yi Luowa laughed. "Actually, I wanted to tell you that my heart is tipping toward you already."
"Who’s buying that?" Tong Airui scoffed, though the corners of his lips curled up a little.
The examination results for Huo Li came out quickly. Given her physical condition, the doctor recommended she stay in the hospital for at least forty-eight hours post-surgery before transferring.
Yi Luowa and Huo Li discussed it and ultimately agreed to follow the doctor’s advice.
Jiasite soon returned. Upon learning that Huo Li was planning to go to Xiawu with Yi Luowa, he made no objections and only brought the latest news.
It turned out that Kai Bin was a natural azoospermic. He had scouted a man to impregnate Fei Li. After Fei Li conceived Huo Li, Kai Bin secretly killed the man.
Kai Bin was exceedingly lecherous. As Fei Li aged and lost her charm, Kai Bin set his sights on Huo Li. Initially, Fei Li resisted, but Kai Bin threatened to kick her out, give her not a cent, and expose her infidelity. For money and reputation, Fei Li ultimately gave in.
"I consulted a lawyer. Just the murder alone is enough to get Kai Bin the death penalty. Kai Bin will undoubtedly die. If Fei Li’s crimes are confirmed, she’ll get life imprisonment. Huo Li, is this outcome acceptable to you?" Jiasite asked solemnly.
"They have nothing to do with me anymore. Evil people being brought to justice is the best outcome," Huo Li said firmly. For scum like them who had done such things to her, they never treated her as their daughter. Why should she shed a tear for them?
Jiasite nodded and handed her an envelope. "This is Kai Bin’s will. He left all his assets to you."
Huo Li looked at him suspiciously. "Kai Bin isn’t dead yet. How can there be a will?"
"This is the one thing I could do for you. What he owes you, he must repay!" Jiasite got up and headed toward the door. At the door, he turned back, his gaze drifting from Yi Luowa’s face to Huo Li’s. "Follow Luowa. I’m not strong enough now to protect you two properly. Airui Duke is the best choice."
And just like that, Jiasite left. Huo Li wanted to say "thank you," but he didn’t give her the chance.
Huo Li tossed the envelope aside. "Piggy, donate it for me. I don’t want a single penny of his money."
Yi Luowa picked up the envelope, opened it, and flipped through it. "Pig, you can donate the physical assets, but these factories employ tens of thousands. If you walk away, they’ll face unemployment."
Huo Li hesitated. "Find someone reliable and sell them at a low price, maybe?"
"If you trust me, I can handle it," Tong Airui offered from the side.
Huo Li gratefully looked at him. "Thank you, Tong Airui. But before we deal with these assets, we need to clarify one thing."
"Go ahead." Tong Airui accepted the envelope Yi Luowa handed him, looking at Huo Li.
"Kai Bin isn’t dead yet. How can this will take effect?"
"He’s probably already dead," Tong Airui said with a hint of jealousy. "If he died so quickly, it must have something to do with Luowa."
Yi Luowa looked at him, confused. "How does this have anything to do with me?"
"Someone must have understood your desire for Kai Bin’s death and took action for you."
Yi Luowa pouted. "Can we speak normally?"
"Sure we can." Tong Airui raised the envelope. "I’ve thought about it. In all of Country F, there are only a few who could entirely take over Kai Bin’s company. After all, some of his businesses are profitable while others are losing money. No one would be foolish enough to buy the unprofitable ones too. The only person suitable is Uncle. But doing so would only increase Uncle’s burden. My suggestion is to transfer Kai Bin’s assets into shares and merge them with PCW. Uncle can manage the company, and you’ll receive annual dividends. You can donate the profits as you wish."
Huo Li didn’t even hesitate. "No need for shares. Just give everything directly to Uncle."
Tong Airui smirked slightly. "If it’s free, Uncle definitely won’t accept. Think about my suggestion again. If it doesn’t work, I’ll propose another plan."
"Let’s do what you said," Huo Li agreed gratefully, nodding.
Tong Airui furrowed his brows slightly. "That’s just my idea for now. Whether Uncle will accept is still uncertain."
Huo Li looked helplessly at Yi Luowa.
Her expression deeply pained Yi Luowa. Before everything happened, Huo Li had been confident and decisive. Now, she was like a lost child.
Yi Luowa held her hand tightly. "Don’t worry. If Uncle refuses, I’ll go with you to beg him together."
Huo Li nodded but then shook her head. "Luowa, if Uncle has his difficulties, we shouldn’t force him."
Yi Luowa’s eyes reddened slightly. She turned her head and softly said, "Okay."
Huo Li shook her hand nervously. "Piggy, what’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
Yi Luowa hugged her, choking up. "Don’t be so cautious. I want the old Huo Li back! I want the old Huo Li back!"
