Chapter 212: Chapter 202 That Dead Woman Must Be Up to Something (3)
Long Che snorted, tilted his head, and looked at Tong Aino. "I’m done; you all should stop interfering with those two as well. Girls are so outwardly oriented. Having a son is still better—at least a son will bring home a little bundle of joy for your mom and me."
Yi Luowa’s eyes instantly narrowed with laughter as she stretched out her arms toward Long Che and shouted cheerfully, "Long live, Dad! I want to give you a love-filled hug~"
"You little rascal! You’re the one who annoys me, but then you sweet-talk me too. No way am I letting you win!" Long Che laughed as he retreated a step.
"Boohoo, no love left~" Yi Luowa pouted as she stared at him.
Mi Chenxuan laughed and nudged Long Che toward the bed, "Uncle, satisfy our little hero here."
Yi Luowa reached out and pulled the "reluctant" Long Che into a loving hug. After hugging Long Che, she quickly turned to hug Tong Yao. While hugging Tong Yao, she whispered softly, "Mom, your hugs still feel the best."
"You brat! You complain about me but still insist on hugging me!" Long Che laughed and shook his head.
Yi Luowa nuzzled against Tong Yao’s shoulder and smiled brightly at Long Che.
Long Che glared at her with mock anger before turning his gaze to You Jia and Teng Aini. "You two, stop sneakily running around in the future!"
"Thank you, Uncle Che." You Jia felt bitter inside but dared not show it. His sister-in-law was right—no one had it rougher than him. With so many people helping the two of them, they had managed to move forward a little more.
"Where on earth are you two coming from?" Long Che squinted at his daughter. In the dark and windy night, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Teng Aini froze and secretly glanced at Yi Luowa.
"Dad, it was me who provided the venue and sent them to our family estate," Yi Luowa explained with a laugh upon noticing Long Che’s darkened face. "I told Uncle Li to keep an eye on them and ensure they return to their rooms to rest by ten o’clock sharp. I was just thinking—dry wood and fire could spark trouble if they got a hotel room. At least at our home, so many pairs of eyes are watching them; nothing could go wrong. Dad, aren’t I clever?"
Long Che’s mouth twitched slightly, "So I should be praising you, huh?"
Yi Luowa cupped her cheeks with both hands, adorably nodding, "I seek praise."
The entire room stifled their laughter until Long Che let out his first chuckle, prompting everyone to burst out laughing.
The room’s tense atmosphere was dissolved just like that by Yi Luowa’s playful banter.
Just when Yi Luowa thought everything was fine, Mi Chenshuo kicked Mi Chenxuan, "Are you still a man? You needed your fourth sister-in-law to protect you!"
Mi Chenxuan winced in pain, gritting his teeth, "Brother, my heart already feels heavy enough; just cut me some slack. The situation was too urgent at that time—I couldn’t even react before fourth sister-in-law stepped in to save my life and went along with them."
Yi Luowa pouted and glared at Mi Chenshuo. "Third Brother, don’t blame the Eighth; they already said they were after me. If I didn’t go with them, wouldn’t that just add another life to the count? Besides, look how perfectly fine I am now. They say, ’Surviving a great disaster comes with blessings!’
Tong Yao, feeling heartache, lightly patted her little face, "Our Luowa clearly radiates good fortune. From today, luck will be on your side forever."
Yi Luowa grinned as she nuzzled against Tong Yao’s cheek. "Yes, everything will definitely get better. From my birth until now, I’ve survived eighteen car accidents. Each time, there was death and injury, but I survived. Then I got to know Tong Airui and all of you wonderful people in this family. This time, so many people wanted to kill me, yet I survived again. My future is bound to be even happier."
Although Yi Luowa spoke with ease, everyone felt an inner sadness listening to her words.
Thinking of how she’s endured so many dangers at such a young age, Tong Yao sorrowfully embraced her—this child, she decided, would receive all her love and protection, ensuring she never faces harm or hardship again.
"Long Che." Tong Yao lifted her gaze to Long Che, "Arrange two people for Luowa."
Long Che nodded, "I already made the calls; they’ll arrive tomorrow morning."
Tong Yao smiled, "Quick action! Be sure to pick someone skilled for Luowa."
"Now you’re acting like Luowa is only your daughter-in-law!" Long Che grumbled with dissatisfaction. "If you’re that worried, go to the base and pick someone for her yourself."
Yi Luowa chuckled and looked up at Tong Yao, "Mom, who are you picking for me? Bodyguards? It’s not necessary—Ao Lie being with me is enough."
"Ao Lie is a man; there are many situations where it’s inconvenient for him. Let your dad pick two skilled ones."
Da Peng entered with two young women in tow. "Fourth Brother has already picked two skilled ones, and I’ve brought them over. I didn’t mention it earlier because things were busy."
Long Che glanced at the two young women and clearly wasn’t impressed. "Tomorrow, when the ones from the base arrive, set up a sparring match. Whoever wins stays."
Da Peng froze, while the two young women exchanged glances—being a bodyguard requires sparring?
Long Che raised his brows slightly.
Da Peng quickly responded, "Yes!"
Teng Aini noticed Da Peng leading them out and remarked with a smile, "Dad, those were people that my brother found for my sister-in-law. Won’t he be upset with the hassle you’re creating?"
"No one asked for your opinion!" Long Che glared at his daughter sharply and said sternly, "Eagles come from all over, but people from the base grow up there. They’re trustworthy! You and your brother both lack sense."
Teng Aini pouted, "You’re always right!"
"Tong Yao, look at your daughter—no manners, talking back to me!" Long Che indignantly complained to Tong Yao.
Tong Yao also pouted, "The daughter is yours; the sons are mine. Your daughter—handle her yourself."
Teng Aini leaned weakly against You Jia and sighed, "Poor me, no one wants me."
"I do!" You Jia smiled and patted her head.
Long Che glanced over, Tong Aino looked over, and then Mi Chenshuo, Mi Chenxuan, and Mai Zekai all turned their gazes in sync.
You Jia was about to let go of Teng Aini, but Yi Luowa lightly coughed.
You Jia grinned and held Teng Aini tighter, "I’ve gotten used to it—whenever someone looks at us, I don’t even know where to put my hands."
"Just put your hand around Aini’s waist," Yi Luowa said with a smile. "It’s late; everyone should go rest."
"I’ll stay with you." Tong Yao removed her shoes and climbed onto the bed. "You all go rest."
Seeing his wife on his daughter-in-law’s bed made Long Che’s face instantly darken. But remembering Yi Luowa was injured, he couldn’t bring himself to ask his wife to come back and sleep with him.
Watching him, Yi Luowa secretly laughed but didn’t show it on her face. Instead, she held Tong Yao’s hand and said, "Mom, I’m a restless sleeper; don’t let me kick you off the bed halfway through. You shouldn’t sleep with me."
"Someone has to be by your side. If you kick me, I’ll hit you." Tong Yao was determined to stay.
Long Che glanced at the mother-and-daughter-in-law duo on the bed, reluctantly turned, and walked out the door.
Seeing him leave, everyone followed suit and left as well.
Tong Yao turned off the lights and lay down with Yi Luowa. The two chatted for a while. Though Yi Luowa tried persuading her to leave, when it didn’t work, she stopped trying. To be honest, she liked Tong Yao’s scent since it reminded her of Mom—warm and comforting.
That night, Yi Luowa barely slept due to the throbbing pain in her injuries. But listening to Tong Yao’s soft breathing, her face remained adorned with a contented smile. Somehow, lying next to Tong Yao made her feel closer to Tong Airui.
Before dawn, Tong Airui’s call came in.
Startled, Yi Luowa quickly answered, afraid of waking Tong Yao.
"Wife, did I wake you? Do your injuries still hurt?" Tong Airui’s deep voice resonated from the phone.
Yi Luowa pouted. She was hurting, but she wouldn’t let him know. In a hushed tone, she replied, "Fourth Brother, I’m not hurting anymore. Today, I plan to go mountain climbing. Why are you calling so early—didn’t you sleep through the night?"
"Yeah, I’m calling to share some good news. That bastard is dead, and I’ve wiped out his base. But I still feel stifled, like I can’t breathe."
Yi Luowa furrowed her brows slightly, "Fourth Brother, I’m not seriously hurt, so don’t be angry. Anger is bad for your health—don’t you want to grow old with me?"
Tong Yao, lying awake but motionless, listened to her son and daughter-in-law’s conversation, her heart aching as she thought: This child is so endearing, always sharing good news and hiding the bad. Even in pain herself, she’s still making others feel better.
Tong Airui exhaled deeply, "You’re really not seriously hurt? I’ve been thinking all night—how could jumping from that car leave you with just a few scrapes, no matter how well you’re trained?"
"I’m lucky and blessed—is that so hard to believe?" Yi Luowa pouted, "Are you that eager to see me injured?"
Tong Airui chuckled and said, "I only wish you wouldn’t get hurt at all."
"Next time, I’ll protect myself even better, so you won’t have to worry about me." Yi Luowa joked softly.
"Another next time?" Tong Airui’s tone grew sharper with displeasure. "Haven’t I already arranged people to stay with you at all times?"
"Oh, thanks, Fourth Brother." Yi Luowa recalled Teng Aini’s words from the previous night and didn’t dare mention the upcoming sparring challenge involving the two girls sent by Tong Airui.
"Why so formal?" Tong Airui teased, "Why is your voice so soft?"
Yi Luowa glanced at Tong Yao again, seeing she was still asleep, then whispered back, "I’m staying at Big Brother’s place. I don’t want to disturb anyone. Fourth Brother, now that that guy is dead, will Haotian finally settle down? Are you coming back soon?"
"Miss me?" Tong Airui’s amused laughter came through the phone.
"Not telling~" Yi Luowa pouted. "If you have more to handle, don’t rush back."
She felt conflicted—wanting him to return yet afraid he’d lose his temper when he saw the injuries on her legs.
Yuan Hang’s voice came through the phone: "Master, Princess Katie drove herself to the northern border."
Yi Luowa hurriedly said, "Fourth Brother, if you’re busy, hang up. I’m fine, so don’t worry about me."
Tong Airui listened to the busy tone on the phone, brows furrowing. He turned to Yuan Hang and said, "She drove herself? That damned woman must be up to something!"
