Chapter 191: Chapter 183: Even This Protective Instinct You Got from Your Dad (3)_2

Mi Chenshuo furrowed his brows but didn’t say anything further.

Tong Yao glanced at Mi Chenshuo, then turned to Mi Xiaotian and said, "When we get back, let them spend some time together before deciding. Marriage is between two people first, and then it’s about two families. We, as parents, shouldn’t be too forceful."

Mi Xiaotian remained silent for a while, then nodded.

Yan Zi raised her hand and tapped her son on the head. "Your two older siblings—one married well, the other picked well. Then look below you, Rui’er’s wife is adorable—the daughter of the Earl of Blue household, a really good match. Anyway, your father and I approve. When we go back, you better step it up! Stop being so picky!"

"Mom, my brother, sister, and even the fourth all fell in love freely, and that’s why they’re happy. If you arrange my marriage, I definitely won’t be happy," Mi Chenshuo said, dodging his mother and moving to sit beside Yi Luowa. "Keep playing chess—if you can win a game against your uncle, I’ll give you ten thousand."

Yi Luowa pouted, "Ten thousand is too little—it won’t even cover a tire replacement."

"If you win a game, I’ll sponsor you a tire." Mi Chenshuo raised his eyes to look at Long Che. "Uncle, time to start the match."

Long Che glanced at him, "Changing the topic again, huh? What your mom said might be pushy, but she’s doing it for your sake. You’re twenty-five or twenty-six now—it’s time to start thinking about your personal matters."

"I will think about it, but finding someone to spend decades with—you all have to give me time," Mi Chenshuo said, picking up the white jade chess box and pushing it toward Long Che. "Start the match—you haven’t truly seen how skillful Luowa is. Even all of us combined can’t beat her."

Long Che’s eyes flickered slightly and he smiled, saying, "That skilled, huh? Luowa, if your great-uncle ever asks you to play chess, make sure you don’t let him win—just beat him! If you win, Dad will give you a reward."

Yi Luowa stifled her laughter and sneaked a glance at Tong Yao.

Tong Yao pinched Long Che’s thigh hard.

"Pfft—" Yi Luowa couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.

Long Che gripped Tong Yao’s hand and, with a serious look, pointed to the chessboard and said, "Start the match!"

Yi Luowa didn’t dare look at his face. She reached out and pointed to the chess box near his hand, "Black starts first... Haha... Wait, let me laugh for a moment! I’ll give you a three-piece handicap."

Long Che watched as Yi Luowa collapsed laughing in Connie’s arms. He couldn’t resist and burst into laughter himself. "This kid! What’s so funny? Your mom’s consistent bullying of me—nobody’s surprised by it anymore."

"Mm-hmm..." Yi Luowa nodded incessantly, laughed for a good while, and finally held back her giggles to play a few serious rounds with Long Che.

All this commotion managed to pull Yi Luowa temporarily out of the shadow of Tong Airui’s departure, while Mi Chenshuo also didn’t seem as downcast anymore.

After lunch, Yi Luowa wanted to go back to check on Yi Weiyang. Tong Aino, concerned for her, volunteered to be her escort and accompany her to the hospital.

Yi Luowa winked playfully at Connie.

Connie shook her head.

Yi Luowa pouted, "You say you want to be friends with me, and yet you won’t even go see my second uncle?"

Connie understood what Yi Luowa meant, but since Tong Aino had always disliked her, she didn’t want to add to his frustration. Still, being provoked like this, not going would look bad.

Tong Aino immediately caught Yi Luowa’s intent and sulkily rolled his eyes at her.

Yi Luowa raised her fist teasingly at him.

"Look at your eyes—like a bruised peach! If my brother saw this, he’d surely divorce you!" Tong Aino sneered.

"Your fourth brother likes bruised peaches!"

"That’s my fourth brother!"

"Mine!"

"Mine!"

Yi Luowa puckered her lips and looked toward Tong Yao, "Mom, Aino’s bullying me."

"Mom will avenge you!" Tong Yao picked up a cushion and tossed it playfully at Tong Aino. "Stop being cheeky—help Connie accompany your sister-in-law to see Mr. Yi Number Two, and come back for dinner tonight."

"Everyone bullies me." Tong Aino grudgingly picked up the cushion and threw it back at Mi Chenshuo, then left ahead of everyone else.

Yi Luowa laughed and pulled Connie along, "Let’s go too."

When Yi Luowa exited the house, she hid her hand behind her back and flashed an OK gesture toward Tong Yao.

Tong Yao saw the little gesture and smiled, shaking her head. "That girl is definitely trying to matchmake Connie with Nuo’er."

Tong Airui looked up at her mother. "Did Great Uncle call you?"

"He did, but this time he wasn’t so pushy. He just said I should assess for myself."

Tong Airui chuckled, "Let me tell you about what happened last night—this assessment, you better make it comprehensive..."

When Tong Airui finished recounting the events of the previous night, everyone glanced at one another and couldn’t contain their laughter.

Tong Yao laughed, "I wouldn’t be surprised if Luowa pulled off stunts like that. Turns out Connie’s also quite a fighter!"

"A true member of our family! Your dad finally did something right." Long Che didn’t even finish his sentence before scooting over, lest his wife pinch him again.

Tong Yao shot him a glare, "What are you dodging for?"

"The couch is warmed up from me sitting—it’s time to cool off somewhere else." Long Che buttoned up his innocent expression as if he spoke only the truth.

You Jia suppressed his laughter, bowing his head.

Long Che caught it with a sidelong glance and immediately noticed the son-in-law secretly chuckling. "Soon the military parade is coming up. Aren’t you going to take a look? Staying home all day won’t do."

You Jia froze for a moment. He really wanted to say, "But aren’t you staying home all day too?" However, he didn’t dare, so he obediently replied, "There are commanding officers with the troops; I don’t need to be there. At the parade, I can just observe."

Long Che raised an eyebrow slightly. "Rui’er has taken the team to Haotian, and who knows when he’ll return. Your engagement to Ni’er will need to be postponed."

You Jia glanced at Tong Airui, his frustration brewing but remaining silent as he nodded obediently, "That’s fine. We’re not in a hurry."

Long Che couldn’t help but grin. You’re practically at the limit of patience!

Tong Yao furrowed her brows and asked, "Has there been any news from Rui’er?"

"Regrouping after returning to Xiawu—where would he find the time to contact us? Even Luowa’s phone hasn’t rung lately. We’ll need to adjust our expectations—these little monkeys, when they do call, they’ll ring their wives first. Us parents will always fall to the back of the line."

Tong Yao chuckled, "My expectations have always been better than yours! You don’t need to educate me about this."

Just as the couple were talking about phone calls, Yi Luowa’s phone suddenly started ringing.

Yi Luowa’s heart raced as she stared at the number flashing on the screen.

Sitting in the front passenger seat, Tong Aino turned to glance at her. Seeing her flush red, hands trembling while holding the phone, he smiled and asked, "Is that my brother calling?"

Yi Luowa nodded and swiped to answer.

"Fourth brother..." The moment she uttered these words, tears cascaded from her eyes. Although everyone comforted and teased her, the absence of the most important person kept her spirits low.

"Luowa, I’m about to lead my team out soon. I’m doing well—you don’t need to worry. How are you?"

Yi Luowa took the tissue Connie handed over, wiped her tears, calmed herself, and smiled as she said, "Fourth brother, I’m doing great too. This morning I was playing chess with Dad—I won several tires!"

"You played chess with Dad?" Tong Airui laughed. "Since when did you start calling him Dad?"

"Not long ago—Dad and Mom promised me money for changing how I address them. If I didn’t call them properly, wouldn’t that be bad?" Yi Luowa’s tone sounded cheerful, but tears blurred her vision once more.
