Chapter 1158: Chapter 1158: First Experiment
Right now, Feng Jun is at Mount Zhige, truly unmatched—whatever he says goes.
Even when faced with the wishes of the Four Sects and Wutai, he can oppose them outright if he wants to.
Outsiders might think he relies on the prestige of Master Sumiao or Master Busheng, but that’s not the case at all.
Of course, he does borrow a bit from their reputation—after all, how do you do business without leveraging resources?
The Taiqing Sect had taken an interest in refrigerators and air conditioners, and it wasn’t necessarily tied to the Yinsha Sect. In fact, Lu Wanfeng initially noticed that Mount Zhige was filled with mundane items that could greatly improve quality of life. Later, even Kong Ziyi picked up on this.
After that, Feng Jun began trading ten thousand refrigerators and air conditioners with the Yinsha Sect, and Kong Ziyi figured the Taiqing Sect could purchase a few as well.
She wasn’t planning on buying too many, just about a thousand sets, which she could distribute among her close friends once she returned to Taiqing.
She intended to pay for these herself as a gesture of indirect support for Feng Jun.
Since she willingly showed support, Feng Jun naturally wouldn’t charge her Spirit Stones; trading it for gold was fine. Besides, he didn’t believe Taiqing would stop showing interest after just these thousand refrigerators and air conditioners.
The so-called sense of happiness always comes from comparisons—if you have something others don’t, that’s happiness. And, of course, those without it would feel dissatisfied. Cultivators aren’t immune to this mentality of comparison.
Because he believed Taiqing would likely make further purchases down the line, Feng Jun found himself annoyed with Bai Li Shangren’s haggling. If gold was indeed the mode of trade, he’d obviously prioritize selling to Kong Ziyi first.
What pushed him to make this decision was also the fact that, with Wang Botai’s support, the Thunder Cultivators had finally developed a practical Spirit Stone Generator.
Wang Botai initially wanted to inform Feng Jun of the news as soon as possible, but since the Yinsha Sect always had practitioners stationed at Mount Zhige, he entrusted Ji PingAn’s trade caravan to deliver two Spirit Stone Generators instead.
The machines were still bulky and primitive, but they exhibited significant characteristics of the Cultivation Plane. Both input and output were controlled via formation arrays. The next step would be designing more arrays to drastically increase power generation capacity.
That being said, this device was... rather expensive. Purchases required Spirit Stone payment, not gold, and operational costs were also high. Feng Jun didn’t plan to buy one; he wasn’t short on Spirit Stones at the moment, but with many dependents behind him to support, how could he spend so recklessly?
The advent of the Spirit Stone Generator was a massive boon for the appliances Feng Jun sold. For instance, in the Taiqing Sect, there weren’t many boiler camel motorcycles to begin with. Before, anyone who wanted a refrigerator or air conditioner had to first figure out how to source electricity. Now, that wouldn’t be necessary.
Feng Jun was thrilled at the news and used the opportunity to inquire further about the Thunder Cultivators’ research progress on advanced batteries.
Ji PingAn explained that the Thunder Cultivators seemed reluctant to comment on the topic, suggesting that progress wasn’t going smoothly.
But this wasn’t their fault—developing high-efficiency batteries was an exceptionally challenging field. Despite their dedication to research, they were essentially groping blindly in the dark. Needing to figure things out through trial and error over a decade or so was entirely expected.
Feng Jun wasn’t too surprised by this outcome, but what did astonish him was their discovery of a method to recharge Yunlei Stones using generators—albeit iteratively.
Yunlei Stones stored immense electrical energy with high peak output. However, during the recharging process, the required energy input was demanding—not just high voltage but also a sufficiently strong current; otherwise, the effect would be subpar.
Most of the time, Thunder Cultivators recharged Yunlei Stones by placing them on Thunder Plains, relying on natural lightning to do the job.
Their experiments with using generators to recharge Yunlei Stones hadn’t been very effective. However, using a partially charged Yunlei Stone to recharge another produced significantly better results.
They used worn-out Yunlei Stones that were no longer very effective to complete the intermediary charging stages. Layering the process through two or three levels eventually achieved results comparable to natural lightning charges.
For the Thunder Cultivators, this line of research didn’t hold much significance in the short term. After all, typically, they could use Thunder Techniques directly on Yunlei Stones to recharge them—Feng Jun may not have been a pure Thunder Cultivator, but his mastery in the Falling Thunder Technique was sufficient for recharging purposes.
Yet, as Spirit Stone Generators continued to improve, the Thunder Cultivators could foresee a day when substantially enhanced generators would be capable of recharging Yunlei Stones directly. Starting small now would at least help them accumulate experience.
Moreover, over the years, Thunder Cultivators had amassed plenty of overly used Yunlei Stones. Throwing them away seemed wasteful, but keeping them served no purpose either—this initiative allowed them to turn waste into something useful.
Hearing all this, Feng Jun’s eyes lit up. "So, you’re saying... the electric energy in Yunlei Stones can be drawn out and used to power devices?"
If they could be recharged, then naturally, the energy could also be extracted. That was his interpretation.
Feng Jun still had four Yunlei Stones in his possession. However, converting them into regular power sources would be quite troublesome. He’d considered tackling it himself, but as a humanities scholar, he was hopeless in this area, and he simply didn’t have the time.
Ji PingAn then pulled out a pale yellow box, seemingly crafted from some special type of mineral. It was embedded with golden and black wires woven across its surface.
Smiling, he explained, "Just place the Yunlei Stone into this box, and the terminals here will output a steady forty-eight volts of direct current. It can be used for charging or powering devices. But Thunder Cultivators warn that a reasonable alternating current for recharging requires at least ten thousand amperes."
Thanks to Feng Jun, many people now had some basic knowledge of electricity. Even those who didn’t understand the actual figures could at least use the terminology correctly.
Feng Jun immediately understood—this was a device that could consume over two thousand kilowatt-hours of energy in just one hour.
He smiled as he picked it up. "This thing’s for me? How much did you pay for it?"
"It was a gift from the Thunder Cultivators," Ji PingAn replied cheerfully. "They know you don’t have a lot of Yunlei Stones on hand, and recharging them is tricky."
The Thunder Cultivators’ gesture brought Feng Jun a small surprise. Meanwhile, trades for food and appliances were proceeding steadily. Feng Jun was preparing to conduct cross-dimensional transportation trials.
Yang Shangren was currently away on a mission escorting goods, but both Fu Shangren and Nangong Youjiu were around.
Without making an announcement, Feng Jun set out to perform the trials. On this particular day, he went to the entrance of the sect and found Fu Shangren. "I heard from Liang Zhongyu that you plan to buy some refrigerators and air conditioners?"
Fu Shangren, who had been working hard to resolve tensions with Mount Zhige, nodded immediately. "Of course! Refrigerators and air conditioners are very practical. And that boiler camel motorcycle—it’s a shame I could only get two out of the ten I ordered."
Feng Jun nodded. "I’ve got other arrangements for those. Let’s head somewhere private; I have something to tell you... don’t alert anyone else."
"Understood," Fu Shangren responded ecstatically, nodding repeatedly, and followed Feng Jun away without a second thought.
Nangong Youjiu noticed them leaving and felt puzzled. Just as he was about to follow discreetly, he caught Feng Jun glancing back with a highly guarded expression.
He could only sigh to himself and thought, *I’ll just wait until Fu Shangren comes back to ask him what happened.*
Both men’s cultivation levels were similar, and though the Nangong Family was Fu’s parent family, Nangong Youjiu doubted Fu Shangren would dare to withhold anything from him.
Feng Jun and Fu Shangren walked along the main road for a while under the scorching sun. However, as seasoned cultivators, they disregarded the heat and soon covered over ten miles.
Then, Feng Jun abruptly turned onto a side path. "This Zhao Family Village produces Mysterious Iron Ore. Their previous clan elder foolishly provoked me..."
Fu Shangren, aware of the minor Mysterious Iron Mine in the area, laughed as he replied, "That truly is asking for trouble..."
His sentence was cut short as a rope lasso suddenly flew out and bound him tightly.
In his wildest dreams, Fu Shangren never expected Feng Jun to launch such a sudden and ferocious attack.
Fu Shangren had always assumed that Feng Jun wouldn’t initiate an assault against him—not because he underestimated Feng Jun, but because with Golden Core backers, Feng Jun could openly deal with him; why would he need to resort to ambushes?
But the Immortal Binding Rope Feng Jun employed was truly overpowering. Unless one entirely evaded it through speed, there was no dodging it.
If Fu Shangren had been on full alert, the rope lasso might not have succeeded in a single strike. After all, he had some trump cards of his own.
But this sudden attack left him utterly defenseless.
Staggered, he asked, "Mountain Master Feng, what are you doing..."
"Shut up!" Feng Jun’s Divine Sense struck forcefully at Fu Shangren’s consciousness.
The blow left Fu Shangren with a splitting headache. Before he could process what was happening, darkness consumed him, and he lost all consciousness.
The next moment, Feng Jun had already appeared in a courtyard within the Earth Realm.
Wasting no time, he pulled out his phone, swiped it, and entered the phone space to check Fu Shangren’s condition.
The man was still alive, but a warning appeared: "Physical body and soul damaged," with a life force value reduced to twenty-three percent.
How could it drop to such a figure? Feng Jun furrowed his brows. He had never encountered such a reading before.
He’d previously treated patients in poor health—from Elder Yuan to Elder Yu, from Zhuang Zesheng to Elder Sister Lou—and none had shown such a value. Back then, Elder Yuan’s life force might not even have reached twenty percent.
Soon, he noticed a faint underline beneath the value—indicating an explanation!
When he tapped the figure, sure enough, a shadowy message appeared: "Damage caused by cross-dimensional forces."
Got it! Feng Jun reasoned the unusual value stemmed from harm inflicted by the Stone Ring.
Twenty-three percent... was that a lot or a little? Feng Jun considered it for a moment before returning to the phone space.
He reappeared on the path leading to Zhao Family Fort.
