Chapter 440: Taking the offensive (III)
The hive mind was taken aback by the pincer attack being performed by the human forces. A small but extremely powerful force was wiping out thousands of Leviathans on the horizontal section of the L-shaped path, and now a massive force was attacking the rear on the vertical section of the path. No matter how you looked at it, this was a disastrous situation for the Leviathan swarm. But the hive mind was not one to show hesitation; the eyes of the Leviathans glowed with a fierce light as the Elite Units marched forward.
Despite the dire circumstances, the hive mind calculated swiftly. While the forces coming from the rear were much more massive, the individual powers of those soldiers were not a real threat to the Elite Units. If the Elite Units used all their power, they could crush the human charge, making it very easy for the rest of the Leviathans to swarm the humans and kill all of them.
"BOOOMMM!" An explosion echoed across the battlefield as the Elite Units blasted toward the human forces. Thirty Peak High Champion warriors surged forward with overwhelming force, their massive forms cutting through the ranks with frightening speed.
Although the Elite Units were only thirty in number and the humans were thousands, the human forces could not help but feel a massive pressure as those colossal dark monsters flashed toward them. The sheer aura of the Elite Units was oppressive, and none of the soldiers felt confident in resisting their charge. The ground trembled beneath the Leviathans’ approach.
Luckily, the human forces had monsters of their own!
As the Elite Units closed the distance, less than two hundred meters away from the human forces, thirty-three juggernauts appeared. They were covered completely in white armor, their surfaces gleaming even amidst the chaos of battle. Each wielded a massive bastard sword that seemed almost too large to be practical, yet they handled them with ease.
With a burst of speed that was simply shocking, the Lords of Horror flashed forward to meet the Elite Units. Their movements were a blur, and in an instant, they clashed with the Leviathan elites with thunderous might. The impact of their collision sent shockwaves rippling across the battlefield!
Hatred and loathing appeared in the eyes of the Elite Units as their claws and fists clashed with the swords of the Lords of Horror. Sparks flew as metal met chitin, and the sounds of their battle drowned out all else. The Elite Units, accustomed to overwhelming their foes, found themselves matched in strength and skill.
On the other hand, Ned and the rest of the Lords of Horror showed pure focus in their eyes. Their minds were honed to a state of absolute battle awareness at all times, so there were no emotions burning in their minds as they carried on with their task. Every movement was precise, every strike calculated.
"Do not relent. Faster!" King Viserin’s voice boomed across the battlefield, cutting through the din of combat. As the swords of the Lords of Horror and the claws of the Elite Units clashed, he urged his troops forward, pushing them around the white and dark battlefield and into the Leviathan swarm.
"Advance! Break their lines!" he commanded, his sword raised high.
The human soldiers, emboldened by the might of the Turking King, surged forward with renewed vigor. The hive mind raged as the Lords of Horror neutralized its Elite Units, and now there was nothing between the human charge and the forces at the rear of the swarm.
Immediately, the drones, aerial units, and insect-humanoid hybrids adopted a steady battlefield formation, generating a wall of chitinous shields and exoskeletons as they prepared to face the charge. The Leviathans formed a formidable barrier, their bodies interlocking to create an almost impenetrable defense. They aimed to cripple the human forces’ momentum in order to have a chance to fight back.
King Viserin’s eyes were sharp as he gazed at the wall of Leviathans. He knew it would be hard to crush them. But luckily, other than the white juggernauts, they had another secret weapon.
The forces of the Golden Wave Legion, Shadow Strike Legion, and Turkin Riders were mere seconds away from crashing into the rear of the Leviathan forces when it happened.
A figure covered in blinding light appeared at the forefront of the charging forces. She moved forward with a simply overwhelming speed, leaving a trail of radiant energy in her wake.
She charged all that momentum into her mace, which glowed with an intense brilliance, and blasted it right into the wall made of Leviathans.
"BOOOOOOOOMMMMM!"
The explosion was immense. All the Leviathans in the path of Freya’s mace were disintegrated, their forms evaporating in the searing light. As soon as the weapon touched the ground, it unleashed a burst of light that spread like a tsunami’s wave, blasting forward, shattering the ground, and sending tens of thousands of Leviathans flying away with broken bodies. The shockwave rippled outward, causing the Leviathan formation to buckle and break.
A cold smile arose on the Viking princess’s face as she saw the destruction her attack had created. Her eyes gleamed with fierce determination and widened as Viserin and the human forces marched around her.
"Now! Press the advantage!" King Viserin roared.
Without any defensive formation of the Leviathans, the human forces were able to pierce into the swarm like hot iron into the snow. The drones could pose absolutely no resistance against the overwhelming might of the human charge. Tens of thousands of them perished each second, cut down by swords, spears, and magic. The ground was littered with the remnants of Leviathan bodies.
Even the aerial units, which were as strong as Champions, were not able to endure the charge.
The only ones capable of generating a form of resistance were the Leviathan warriors, the insect-humanoid hybrids. But a blinding flash of light moved across the battlefield. Freya struck each of the hybrids with her mace, crushing their heads and chests with a single blow before marching forward. Her movements were fluid and unstoppable, each strike precise.
"Forward! Do not falter!" she shouted to the soldiers behind her.
It was a truly wondrous and bloody scene. Vlad and the strongest warriors and mages of the Xaos Kingdom were butchering the center of the Leviathan swarm, crushing, burning, and exploding them to pieces.
Meanwhile, thousands of human forces advanced through the rear, obliterating everything in their path. They made sure to burn every iota of energy inside their bodies as they kept killing enemies, pushing themselves to the limits. The unity and coordination of the human forces were unmatched.
