Chapter 439: Taking the offensive (II)
Immediately, the hive mind attempted to generate defensive maneuvers, but the flaming comet infused with lightning had already begun its dive from the sky, breaking the barrier of sound repeatedly as it fell with increasing momentum. Sonic booms reverberated across the landscape, echoing off the canyon walls and the mountain range that flanked the massive swarm of Leviathans.
The only thing the hive mind could do was calculate the epicenter of the impending crash and mobilize the Leviathans as fast as possible away from the area.
The flaming comet descended with blinding speed, its fiery tail scorching the sky. The heat intensified, and a brilliant light enveloped the area as it collided with the center of the swarm. A cataclysmic explosion erupted upon impact. The initial blast obliterated more than seventy thousand Leviathans instantly; their forms disintegrated in a heartbeat. A towering pillar of fire shot upward, reaching toward the heavens and casting an eerie glow over the battlefield.
The flaming shockwave spread in all directions, a devastating force that sent more than one hundred and fifty thousand Leviathans flying through the air. The shockwaves rippled outward, causing the ground to quake violently. Many Leviathans were hurled into the depths of the canyon, their shrieks echoing as they plummeted into the abyss. Others were slammed against the mountain walls, their exoskeletons shattering upon impact, bodies crushed by the unforgiving stone.
All in all, the attack took the lives of more than one hundred and seventy thousand Leviathans. And that was just the beginning.
A thunderous roar echoed in the sky the next second. All the Leviathans looked upward to see a massive three-hundred-meter snake descending upon them. Its flesh was forged of fire and lightning, scales shimmering with incandescent hues of crimson and electric blue. The creature’s massive maw opened wide, unleashing a torrent of lightning-infused fire that scorched thousands of Leviathans in its path. The inferno incinerated drones and hybrids alike, leaving nothing but ash in its wake.
In the next moment, twenty-five figures leaped from the serpent’s back and landed among the swarm. One of them was a colossal giant more than twenty meters tall. Wielding a massive halberd, he swung with immense power, crushing hundreds of drones with every single move. Each strike sent shockwaves through the ground, toppling Leviathans and carving a path of destruction.
Around him were nineteen figures, all bursting with bloodline forces. Their auras flared with elemental energies, unleashing devastating strikes that no Leviathan could endure. Blades flashed, and spells erupted as they cut through the swarm, even the insect-humanoid hybrids falling before their might.
Approximately three hundred meters from the golden giant and bloodline warriors, five individuals worked in perfect harmony. Three unleashed torrents of metallic lightning tornadoes that tore through the enemy ranks. Dozens of massive spheres of magma erupted from the ground, engulfing Leviathans in molten fury. Hundreds of arrows rained down from above, each finding its mark with lethal precision.
As for the other two, one wielded a massive sword that carried a mountain’s weight and gravitational power. With each swing, the man generated shockwaves that sent Leviathans flying, their bodies crushed under the immense force. The last manipulated shadows, her form darting between drones with uncanny agility. She subdued the creatures around her, using her dagger to pierce the exoskeletons of the Leviathan warriors, striking at vital points with deadly accuracy.
Just the golden giant, bloodline soldiers, and royal forces were enough to put immense pressure on the Leviathans. The swarm reeled under the assault, their numbers dwindling rapidly. But before the hive mind could process the right path to handle them, another threat emerged.
From the fiery crater created by the initial impact, a young man jumped out. He propelled himself into the air, crashing into a swarm of aerial units with a devastating downward kick. The move generated an explosion of lightning and fire, destroying hundreds of them in a single strike. Sparks and embers scattered in all directions as the remnants of the aerial units plummeted to the ground.
At the same time, the massive World Snake dove once more into a cluster of Leviathans, blasting them to pieces. Then, in a fluid motion, it transformed into the form of a small yellow cat. Despite its diminutive size, the cat unleashed torrents of fire and lightning blasts in all directions, weaving through the battlefield with incredible speed and agility.
The hive mind was truly shocked by the sudden attack. It had not believed the humans would dare to carry out a frontal assault in the open in such a fashion as it was contrary to their usual tactics. They had always relied on defensive strategies, leveraging strongholds and fortifications to offset the Leviathans’ numerical advantage. But now, they were striking boldly at the heart of the swarm.
Soon, all thoughts faded except for one: annihilate the enemy. Despite losing nearly four hundred thousand troops in a single strike, the hive mind recognized that some of the most important figures of the human forces were now amidst its swarm. With no stronghold or barrier to retreat to, the humans were vulnerable. The hive mind saw this as a golden opportunity to eliminate them once and for all.
The eyes of all the Leviathans glowed with resolution as the hive mind organized them, beginning to strike with overwhelming brutality and suicidal killing intent. Waves of drones surged forward, their sheer numbers aiming to overwhelm the human warriors. The insect-humanoid hybrids coordinated their attacks, targeting the strongest among the humans. Aerial units regrouped and dove toward the ground to support the ground forces, creating a multidirectional assault.
Of course, the Leviathans on the horizontal part of the path would not be enough. Those in the vertical part of the path were ready to march forward. The Elite Units’ eyes glowed fiercely as they prepared to leave the guard of the Siege Leviathans and join the fray. Their addition would bring formidable power to the swarm, potentially turning the tide of battle.
However, before the hive mind could implement its strategy, the earth at the rear of the Leviathan swarm began to tremble. The ground cracked and split, and in the next second, the hive mind saw tens of thousands of soldiers marching forward. There were more than five thousand men covered in golden armor at the forefront, running at an overwhelming speed that belied their heavy gear. Their formation was tight, shields locked together as they advanced with unwavering determination.
Flanking them were tens of thousands of soldiers riding on demonic soul beasts. The riders wielded weapons imbued with powerful energies, and their mounts snarled and roared as they charged into battle.
"Attack! March with all you have!" The one leading this massive coalition was none other than King Viserin. His voice boomed across the battlefield, filled with authority and fierce resolve. He held a gleaming sword that radiated power, and without hesitation, he charged straight into the rear of the swarm of Leviathans.
