Chapter 435: Divine Ballistic Missile (II)
Grand Marshal Anglius and the rest of the men and women who witnessed the level of destruction were left speechless. The veterans who had fought in wars before the apocalypse couldn’t help but feel flashes of awe and wonder. What they had just seen was nothing less than the strike of an intercontinental missile with a destructive power that was simply overwhelming.
Broad smiles appeared on the faces of all the soldiers as they began to understand the kind of weapons that Overlord had managed to develop. In these weapons, they saw a power that could wipe out the monsters threatening to engulf the world.
The thrill and awe in Grand Marshal Anglius’s heart was no less than that of the soldiers, but his eyes did not lose their sharpness, and his focus remained intact. The missile had wiped out all the aerial units and taken down the Leviathan warriors, but many drones were still left. If they did nothing, those drones would wait for the fires to die down and then consume the scorched bodies of their kind to regain biomass—a prospect Anglius would not allow.
"Attack!" the Grand Marshal of the Xoas Kingdom shouted, his voice booming across the battlefield. As he gave the command, his body began to transform. He returned to his true size, rising more than fifteen meters in height. Muscles bulged with power and strength, making him seem like a small, moving mountain.
Demonic energy surged from his Demon Soul alongside the devil power from his bloodline, causing his size to grow even larger. Now approaching twenty meters tall, he was a colossus on the field.
Without hesitation, he dashed forward at a speed that was simply shocking for his size. Each of his footsteps caused the ground to tremble, leaving deep imprints in the earth. His Force burst forth, covering his body in tangible energy.
The soldiers of the Golden Wave Legion immediately burst into action upon hearing the battle call. They marched next to the massive golden giant. Four thousand meters was a significant distance in the old world, which would take around six minutes to cover. But all those marching forward were Champion Warriors, with speed and vitality dozens or even hundreds of times that of normal humans. It took them less than twenty seconds to close the distance and stand before the Leviathan swarm.
The drones were still trying to comprehend the attack that had crashed upon them. Their ranks were in disarray, many wounded by the blast and scattered due to the shockwave. They had no defensive formation as the human forces charged at them like a golden wave.
Grand Marshal Anglius led the assault, acting like an unstoppable juggernaut. With each stride, he crushed Leviathan drones underfoot, their exoskeletons shattering like brittle glass. The sounds of crunching and cracking echoed around him. Wielding his massive halberd—a weapon proportionate to his enormous size—he swung it with devastating power.
Hundreds of drones were sent flying through the air with every single swing. The halberd cleaved through the swarm, its blade slicing effortlessly through chitin and flesh. One swing carved a deep arc, mowing down a swath of drones before him. Another upward slash sent fragments of Leviathans spiraling into the sky. He spun the halberd around, its pole smashing into those who attempted to flank him, sending them hurtling back with broken bodies.
Behind him, the rest of the Golden Wave Legion engaged the Leviathans with ferocious intensity. The soldiers attacked with everything they had, utilizing their Force and martial skills to devastating effect. Swords flashed, spears thrust, and shields bashed as they cut a path through the enemy.
The Golden Wave Legion fought as a cohesive unit. They moved in formations, covering each other’s blind spots and coordinating attacks to maximize their effectiveness. Each warrior was a master of their craft, and together, they were an unstoppable force.
The Leviathan drones, still disoriented from the earlier blast, were utterly overwhelmed. The relentless assault thwarted the hive mind’s attempts to regroup.
The battlefield was a maelstrom of chaos and destruction. Flames from the earlier explosion still burned, casting an eerie light over the scene. The ground was littered with the remains of drones, and the air was thick with the scent of ozone and burning flesh.
The soldiers pushed themselves to their absolute limits. Their energy burst forth, creating auras around them that flickered like flames. They tapped into reserves of strength they didn’t know they had driven by the desire to eradicate the Leviathan threat once and for all.
Minutes felt like hours as the battle raged on. Sweat and blood mingled on the faces of the warriors, but they did not relent.
Finally, after an intense thirty minutes of relentless combat, the last of the drones fell. The once deafening sounds of battle faded into a heavy silence, broken only by the crackling of flames and the labored breathing of the soldiers.
Grand Marshal Anglius stood amidst the carnage, his massive form shrinking back to its original size as the demonic and devil energies receded. He was exhausted, his muscles aching and his breath ragged. Yet, despite his exhaustion, a sense of accomplishment filled him. It was clear that the clash was a massive success.
"Everybody, pile the corpses and make sure they are all set ablaze," he commanded, his voice carrying authority despite his fatigue. "There must be no biomass left when we leave this place!"
"Yes, sir!" the soldiers of the Golden Wave Legion shouted in unison. Without hesitation, they began the grim task of gathering the Leviathan remains. They worked methodically, stacking the bodies. Soon, pillars of smoke rose into the sky as the corpses were set ablaze, ensuring that the enemy could not reclaim any biomass.
As the soldiers took care of the aftermath, Grand Marshal Anglius couldn’t help but glance at the communication gem in his glove. Activating it, he spoke, "Overlord, what exactly were those artifacts?"
There was a burning curiosity in the heart of the Grand Marshal. The weapon they had just witnessed was unlike anything they had used before, and he was eager to understand its nature.
After a brief pause, Overlord’s voice came through, calm and precise. "I call them Divine Ballistic Missiles. I drew inspiration from the ballistic missiles that humankind built before the apocalypse. Most of the parts could be mimicked with alchemy, and I used Divine Force for those that could not."
The A.I. Clone made it sound simple, but each Divine Ballistic Missile required a massive amount of work. Anyone else would need several months just to make one of them, even if they had access to Divine Force. Overlord’s efficiency and expertise were unparalleled.
"It is truly excellent, Overlord," Grand Marshal Anglius replied, genuine admiration in his voice. "With these weapons, our chances of success rise once more."
Anglius was truly thrilled as he imagined hundreds of those missiles coursing through the sky into the lands of the Leviathans.
