Chapter 434: Divine Ballistic Missile (I)
Their goal was set, but there was much to discuss as the details of such a military move were many and needed to be addressed before their departure. After all, once they marched, they would not meet each other until the moment to strike the Keny Country arose, and any deviation in the timeline or place of gathering could lead to disastrous outcomes for the human forces. That was why the group remained in the command center for nearly twenty-five hours, refining the details as they assessed their next move.
Finally, once everything was settled, Vlad, Grand Marshal Anglius, and the others left the tent. The Depravita of Wrath and the golden giant glanced at each other and performed a profound nod—there was no time to lose.
Vlad turned toward Jormungandr, and the small yellow cat nodded before summoning his demonic soul. A massive flaming bird appeared in everybody’s sight, its wings spanning wide and feathers made of pure fire.
"Let’s go," Vlad commanded.
Amara, Mirena, Claudius, Roman, and Frank, and Freya all jumped onto the flying demonic soul before it rose into the air. Vlad and Jormungandr relied on their own power to defy gravity and ascended gracefully.
As for Ned and the Lords of Horror, they relied on their enchanted armor, using their boots to kick off the very air itself, moving through the sky as if climbing invisible stairs.
The next second, the group flashed into the distance at a shocking speed, heading straight toward the Rand Country. Their figures became blurs against the horizon.
Grand Marshal Anglius watched their figures flying away, and his eyes sharpened as he gazed at the thousands of soldiers on Kuro Mountain. His voice thundered across the land, amplified by his aura.
"Golden Wave Legion, Shadowstrike Legion, and Turkin Riders! Prepare to march! We leave at the first light of dawn!"
Fighting spirit ignited in the eyes of all the soldiers as the words of the Xoas King still reigned in their minds. It was finally time to begin hunting and killing those monsters that saw them as meals.
---
Less than three days after the plan was set in motion, Grand Marshal Anglius found himself back in the Kylen Country. His eyes were sharp and cold as he gazed at a group of Leviathans less than four thousand meters in the distance. The landscape was barren, with jagged rocks jutting from the ground.
His massive body was now only three meters tall, having used runes to shrink his size to hide his presence before the battle started. The leader of the Golden Wave Legion adopted a solemn expression as he observed the nearly three hundred thousand Leviathans.
Most of the Leviathans in that zone were drones. Among them were a few hundred aerial units, and nearly a dozen Leviathan warriors stood tall amidst the horde, their massive frames armored and bristling with deadly appendages.
Such a swarm would be a threat even for the full might of the Golden Wave Legion, Shadowstrike Legion, and Turkin Riders. But there were only three thousand men with Grand Marshal Anglius. In order to clean the entire Kylen Country in just two weeks, he had to divide the Xoas Forces and Turkin Riders into several groups. While the ones with Anglius were elite soldiers, three thousand were simply too few to handle three hundred thousand Leviathans.
But that was where Overlord’s new weapon came into play.
Anglius took a deep breath as he focused on the communication gem embedded in his glove and sent the message. "Three thousand and eight hundred meters to the north of my position. A swarm of over three hundred thousand. Leviathan warriors are positioned in the center east of the swarm."
Silence reigned for a few seconds before Overlord’s voice emerged from the communication gem. "Target acquired. The strike will land in three minutes and forty-five seconds."
Grand Marshal Anglius nodded as he signaled for the troops to be ready. The soldiers adjusted their armor, gripped their weapons tighter, and took defensive positions behind natural cover.
Overlord had not given too much detail about the weapon that could destroy everything within a three-hundred-meter radius and unleash a wave of blazing heat for one and a half kilometers. Still, Anglius knew that the master strategist of the Xaos Kingdom would never utter empty words.
The soldiers exchanged glances, their faces a mix of anxiety and steely determination. They knew that if the Leviathans caught them, their only choice would be to retreat, so they hoped the weapon would be as powerful as expected.
Finally, as Overlord’s timeline was approaching, a low rumble began to build in the distance. Grand Marshal Anglius and the rest of the soldiers heard a booming sound above their heads like thunder rolling across the sky. They looked up to see a streak of light tearing through the heavens, something crossing the sky at more than ten times the speed of sound.
A massive projectile—sleek, metallic, and trailing a plume of smoke—descended rapidly. Its surface shimmered with arcane runes, and energy crackled around it.
Before any of them could even wonder what was happening, the missile collided with the swarm of Leviathans, landing precisely in the center east of the mass where the insect-humanoid hybrid stood.
For a split second, there was an eerie stillness. Time seemed to freeze as the Leviathans turned their many eyes toward the object that had so abruptly joined them.
Then, the world erupted.
A blinding light burst forth from the point of impact, outshining the sun itself. A towering pillar of fire surged into the sky, its base expanding rapidly as a colossal explosion ripped through the area.
The ground shook violently, a deafening roar consuming all other sounds. The initial blast obliterated everything within its core radius. Tens of thousands of Leviathans were instantaneously vaporized, their forms disintegrated before they could even register the threat.
A shockwave of immense force blasted outward, carrying with it searing heat and fierce winds. The wave expanded, engulfing the surrounding Leviathans. Those caught within its reach were hurled through the air like ragdolls, their bodies engulfed in flames. Exoskeletons cracked and melted, limbs were torn asunder, and the air was filled with the screeches of dying creatures.
The heat was so intense that the very ground beneath the swarm turned to glass. Rocks melted, and any semblance of vegetation was incinerated. The shockwave continued to spread, reaching out to the full extent of its destructive range.
Further out, Leviathans were knocked off their feet, tumbling over one another in a chaotic scramble. The aerial units caught in the blast were torn apart, their wings shredded as they spiraled downward, trailing smoke.
From the vantage point of Grand Marshal Anglius and his soldiers, the scene was awe-inspiring and terrifying. The towering inferno and the immense plume of smoke rose high into the sky, visible for miles around.
The soldiers felt the remnants of the shockwave pass over them—a hot gust that rustled their cloaks and sent dust swirling around their feet. But they were safely positioned outside the lethal radius.
