Chapter 349: Back to Xaos City

Chapter 349: Back to Xaos City

The strength of his elite warriors brought a small smile to Vlad’s face. Seeing them grow stronger day by day filled him with a glimmer of hope. Little by little, they were rising, becoming more powerful, and perhaps, just perhaps, their strength would be the thing that allowed humanity to stand a chance against the Leviathans.

The rest of the day was spent in deep discussion with Grand Marshal Anglius and King Viserin. The trio gathered around a large table spread with maps and reports, the weight of their responsibilities heavy on their shoulders.

"We need to secure this area," Anglius stated, pointing to the newly formed sea of lava on the map. "The passage through the molten barrier must be monitored at all times."

Viserin nodded in agreement. "If the Leviathans manage to breach our defenses and enter the Asani Continent, the consequences would be catastrophic."

Vlad leaned forward, his gaze intense as he gave the command. "Then it’s decided. We’ll build a command post here. We’ll station our best troops to guard the passage."

The others agreed. They knew the importance of this decision. Right now, their advantage was knowing where the enemy would come from. If the Leviathans spread unchecked into neighboring countries, they could attack from all directions simultaneously, and then all would be lost.

With that settled, the conversation turned to a more somber topic—the fallen soldiers, the brave men and women who had given their lives in the explosive mountain range battle. Their bodies had already been placed in coffins and were ready to transport.

"I will bring them back to my capital," Viserin said softly. "They deserve a proper burial."

Anglius sighed heavily. "I will do the same with mine."

Before he could continue, Vlad interjected. "Anglius, you should remain here. I have matters to attend to in Xaos City. I will bring the fallen with me and ensure they receive a proper rest, worthy of heroes."

"Thank you, King Vlad," Anglius said, a hint of relief in his voice. "That will allow us to focus on securing the area."

Vlad nodded solemnly. "It’s the least we can do for those who sacrificed so much."

A flash of sadness crossed his eyes as he thought of the lives lost. But Vlad quickly steeled himself. There was no time to dwell on sorrow. Allowing himself to be consumed by grief would help no one and would dishonor those who had fought so valiantly.

After all arrangements were made, Vlad prepared to depart. He was accompanied by Jormungandr, Ouroboros, and the five Royal Guards. He intended to bring them to Xaos City to reforge their Runic Sets, aiming to equip everyone with Rank 3 Runic Sets.

Freya approached him before they left. "Take care, Vlad." She would remain behind as her totems did not allow for Runic Sets, and it was best if she helped protect the border.

"I will see you soon." Vlad showed a small smile to the young woman.

With that, the group climbed atop the massive flaming demonic bird that was Jormungandr’s demon soul. The creature let out a screech, its fiery wings spreading wide as it took to the skies. They soared upward, leaving the scorched earth behind.

Despite the demon soul’s incredible speed, Xaos City was far from the border of the Monsoon Continent. The journey would take time. Usually, such a trip might be filled with conversation, but not today. Each member of the group was deeply focused, using every moment to train and meditate. They knew they were the spearhead in the war against the Leviathans and needed to be ready to unleash overwhelming power at a moment’s notice.

As they flew, the landscape below shifted from charred battlegrounds to rolling plains and dense forests. Hours passed in silence, broken only by the rhythmic beating of the demonic bird’s wings.

Vlad sat with his eyes closed, his mind reaching inward as he refined his energy. He used every second to reforge the Runic Set he would give to the Depravitas and the Royal Guards, perfectly aware of how important it would be in the war.

Ouroboros stood near the edge, his keen eyes scanning the horizon. The wind ruffled his fur, and his ears twitched, ever alert.

Jormungandr sat perched at the helm, guiding his demon soul with practiced ease.

After fifteen hours of relentless flight, the familiar silhouette of Xaos City appeared on the horizon. But as they drew closer, a sense of unease settled over the group.

"What is that?" Ouroboros growled, his gaze fixed ahead.

Vlad opened his eyes, following his line of sight. His heart skipped a beat. Encasing the entire mountain that housed Xaos City was a massive, fiery force field, its flames licking at the sky and blocking their view of the city within.

Shock and dread coursed through Vlad. "What is happening!?" he exclaimed, rising to his feet.

"This doesn’t make sense," Jormungandr muttered. "The force field is only activated during an attack. Overlord should have alerted you."

Vlad’s mind raced. He immediately attempted to contact the A.I. Chip Clone. "Overlord, report status."

Silence.

No response came. An ominous feeling settled in his gut.

"Jormungandr, faster!" Vlad ordered.

The small yellow cat nodded, and the demonic bird accelerated, its flames burning brighter as it pushed forward.

As they approached the force field, their confusion only deepened. There were no signs of battle—no demons, angels, or Monsters besieging the city. The surrounding lands were calm.

"Why would Overlord activate the force field without any visible threat?" Mirena’s eyes showed deep confusion as she uttered those words.

Vlad’s eyes narrowed. "I don’t know, but we’re about to find out."

He extended his hand, demonic fire swirling around his palm. "Prepare yourselves. We might have to force our way in."

Just as he was about to unleash his power against the barrier, a familiar voice echoed in his mind.

"Prime Master, there is no need for that."

Vlad paused but did not extinguish the flames. "Overlord? Explain this immediately."
