Chapter 306: Taking the orb

Chapter 306: Taking the orb

The Royal Guards were using all they had, burning through their energy pools, employing the full might of their Runic Sets, and tapping into every iota of demonic energy from their Demon Souls as they clashed with the angels. Yet, they were outnumbered five to one.

After the angels overcame their shock and observed the abilities the Royal Guards were using, they immediately adopted better defenses. It was clear that this group was tasked with a unique mission for a reason; their power and training far surpassed those of other members of their race in Terra.

One of the angels, a Level 10 Champion, adopted a sharp expression as he focused on the humans’ long-range casters. In the next second, he dashed toward them, powerful gales emerging from the soles of his feet, granting him incredible speed.

Mirena, Frank, and Roman saw the man dash toward them, but they couldn’t lose focus and sent everything they had toward his figure. Their attacks were the reason Clasius and Amara could remain in the middle of the angel forces without being overwhelmed. The trio glanced at each other, and thanks to their training, they knew what to do.

Mirena’s eyes flashed with determination as she concentrated two of her metallic lightning tornadoes on the angels surrounding the melee Royal Guards, directing the last one at the man dashing toward them.

The angel with gales beneath his feet saw the massive metallic lightning tornado approaching him, but he kept dashing forward, not deviating from his path. Just as Mirena thought her attack would blast the man to pieces, the angel’s energy surged, causing his speed to rise exponentially. It took but a second, but it allowed the angel to dodge the tornado and approach the Royal Guards.

Mirena, Roman, and Frank were shocked by the sudden spike in the man’s strength and were in great danger. A ferocious smile spread across his face as a spear appeared in his hand, and he was ready to drive it toward the head of the archer.

"BOOOOOOMMMMMMM!"

Unfortunately for the angel, before he could unleash his attack, a figure descended from the sky like a lightning bolt right on top of him, creating a massive crater. Silence fell across the battlefield for an instant as all the angels who thought they would finally turn the tables saw how one of the strongest men in their group had been crushed under the might of the small yellow cat.

Jormungandr’s eyes were cold as Origin Force rushed into his Soul Dimension, and he gazed at the rest of the angels. He had used most of his energy pool in that previous gargantuan snake of fire and lightning, but he was still more than capable of dominating a Champion-level battlefield.

"Attack!" the small yellow cat shouted as he flashed with overwhelming speed beside Clasius and Amara. His claws, covered in lightning, blasted the angels away while the flames of his wings unleashed waves of heat that burned the faces of his enemies.

A smile appeared on Clasius and Amara’s faces as they saw the addition of the small yellow cat, feeling the overwhelming pressure from the angels fade.

Although Jormungandr was a mage, his physical might allowed him to be on par with the other two Royal Guards. Not to mention, his mastery over his spells allowed him to fire lightning arcs or bursts of flames without any form of chant, making it easy for him to blast away any angel that became a threat.

With the addition of the Depravita of Gluttony to the fight, the battlefield was under the control of the forces of the Xaos Kingdom. The battle was by no means easy, but the forces were slowly driving the angels to their graves.

However, that was not the only battlefield between the forces of the Xaos Kingdom and the angels. More than four hundred meters away from the rest, on the other side of the river, deep within the forest, Vlad and Aola had crashed. Both of them were still holding tight to the orb, neither willing to give it up.

Vlad and Aola gazed at each other with pure killing intent. The angel’s energy flared, golden light coursing through her body as the energy in her hand turned deadly sharp. She slashed toward the Depravita’s face at an overwhelming speed.

Vlad’s eyes widened as he saw the attack and managed to dodge it by less than a centimeter, and that was only due to the warning of the A.I. Chip. It was clear that the key to the woman’s power was speed, and he needed to act fast.

Immediately, he gathered the demonic flames from his Runic Set into his mouth before unleashing a blast point-blank into Aola’s face. Aola cried out in pain and anguish, but her determination was so strong that even then, she kept a tight grip on the orb!

Unfortunately for Aola, a blow landed on her wrist the next second, causing her grip—into which she had poured so much strength—to break loose. In the following moment, she fell in horror as the orb vanished from her hand.

Aola felt a wave of panic surge through her at the thought of losing the orb, knowing what it would mean not only for her but for her entire family. The terror threatened to overwhelm her, but she managed to refocus, jumping back and putting distance between herself and Vlad as her vision returned.

"Hand that over, now!" she screamed, her voice laced with rage and hatred. She watched the young man casually holding the orb, inspecting it like a trinket.

Vlad barely acknowledged her words, his focus elsewhere. The A.I. Chip was already at work, suppressing any form of energy from the orb. He could sense its immense power, but his priority was to neutralize it before it could cause any further damage. Curiosity tugged at him—what exactly was this orb, and how did it function? But those questions would have to wait.
