Chapter 155: New of a baby (4)
"I don’t know if it is of any importance to you but that woman who once visited your home and was going around the town speaking of you killing her husband, she is dead. Mixed-bloods are so much easier to kill," said Jasper.
Xavier stopped to listen to more about Fiona. "Who killed her?"
"It looked like she killed herself. Her head is," Jasper motioned to his neck. "I visited her home and looked through the window. How would she have sliced it like that? She doesn’t look like someone who could hold a knife properly."
Xavier didn’t need one more reason for the guards to come to his doors to speak with Selene, especially at a time when they were innocent this time.
Did Fiona kill herself or did someone get to her?
Xavier doubted she had the strength or the knowledge to slice off her head by herself. If she did, she wasted her life on a pathetic excuse of a man.
Xavier thought about how Selene would react to this. The woman he knew wouldn’t just move on. What he didn’t want was for Selene to feel it was her fault. She didn’t need to keep giving Fiona a helping hand.
Jasper was confused. Wasn’t it good this woman was dead?
"It wasn’t you," said Jasper.
"The guards won’t believe that and come to us again with this. I should just kill all of you," Xavier said since it was the only way to guarantee his time with Selene wouldn’t be disturbed.
"That doesn’t sound like a good idea," Jasper panicked.
Xavier shouldn’t become a target for all purebloods because he was out to kill them.
"They can’t place this death on you since you would have hidden it. She’s out in the open for anyone to see if they visit her. It could have been done by the same ones behind all the other attacks but it would be too much of a coincidence for them to go after her. It would make you think they were trying to frame you or your wife."
For once, Xavier agreed with Jasper. It was too much of a coincidence so Xavier didn’t believe it was. If it was linked to the other attacks on vampires then the person behind this either had something against him or Selene.
"Do you think it could be that someone is helping you too? Getting rid of people who might be a problem for you in the future. It wouldn’t be your father but some of your great-grandfather’s servants are also awake. It would be too dangerous for me to follow them," Jasper said, thinking of how strong they would be.
They would sense him trailing them from afar.
"I don’t like thinking many of you are following me. What do you know about the Harrisons? About my wife’s grandfathers?" Xavier asked as he walked to collect his new wine.
Jasper spent more time around all the elders so there should be more he knew.
Jasper thought about them. "Before the incident, they were a good family but regular like the rest of the purebloods. There is that rumour that there’s something special about them but nothing has been proven. Everyone lost interest in finding out about it after what they did."
"And what of the purebloods from Selene’s mother’s side?"
"They are quite secretive which fueled the rumours that they must be hiding something but again, nothing was found. They don’t like anyone to get close to them. Other than her mother and grandfather, I can count on one hand how many times I saw the others," Jasper replied.
Now Jasper was curious about what Xavier might have found out about the Harrisons. If there was something they were hiding then this changed everything. His wife wouldn’t be an outcast any more.
"I can have some of the others search for any news about her family. If you want," Jasper offered.
"No," Xavier denied the helping hand. "You only want something to report back to him when he wakes up. Don’t go digging around or the next thing dug will be your grave. You are still on my list of people who might die."
"I plan to get off of that list. Have a safe travel home," Jasper said, more than ready to see Xavier off.
"Why are you rushing me? Is there something you want to hide or do you dislike my presence in my grandfather’s home?" Xavier asked with the sole purpose of making Jasper nervous.
Jasper felt like crying. After years of being at his master’s side, he should be able to put up with Xavier but Xavier always had a way of making him feel nervous. It was no wonder why others said that Xavier reminded them of the first elders.
If not for Jasper arriving the day after Xavier was born with his master to deliver gifts, he would have assumed Xavier was secretly one of the elders since it would explain why he was so strong.
"Not at all. Why wouldn’t I want you here in your grandfather’s home? He would be happy to hear that you are here," Jasper replied.
Xavier continued on his way out of the home. Before returning to Selene, he had one more stop to make since his mother was a little bit too quiet.
Had she come to her senses about her marriage or was she trying to make her husband come to his senses?
Xavier would prefer she realised there was nothing she could do to change Nathaniel’s mind and before Nathaniel could be so foolish to think of entertaining one of the women from the other four families to have a child with to clean up his mistakes, she should leave.
Xavier returned to the carriage and set off for his parents’ home. If he was lucky then his father wouldn’t be there to tell him about Selene. Xavier wasn’t in the mood to talk about his marriage unless it was with Selene.
Why was it that the one person Xavier wanted to speak about his marriage to was so quiet?
Jasper stood by the door, watching Xavier off until he was out of sight. He didn’t know who Xavier was going to see next but he knew it couldn’t be good.
Jasper closed the door so the other servants could continue as they were before Xavier arrived. "I must soon wake him," he decided.
Along with waking Orlork soon, Jasper had to gather the others to have them avoid disturbing Xavier and Selene. They needed to deliver news about a baby to their master as soon as possible.
