"I will not let you put this on me. You had a wife who at the very beginning decided to give you a chance but you wasted it by yearning for other women. Now you take your frustrations of Xavier having a woman you cannot get in your hands out on Theresa. I don’t care what you say. She did not want to be here," Vivienne argued.
Vivienne knew Theresa better than Darius ever did. All Darius saw was a pretty face but Vivienne had many conversations with Theresa as more than a queen with her maid.
"I do not believe covering their faces would be enough to protect them from you. You’re a danger to any woman who catches your eye and one day, you will suffer from it. Get out!" Vivienne pointed to the door.
"If you knew I had some interest in her and that I was a danger, why didn’t you send her away?" Darius asked.
No matter what, Vivienne was partly to blame and he believed that there wasn’t a woman who could wholeheartedly say they did not want a place by his side. Everyone wanted power.
"Because I was foolish to trust you wouldn’t do her like this. I won’t make that mistake a second time. Get out before I find a way to kill you right now and I will not regret it even if everyone pushes for me to follow you in death. Get out," Vivienne ordered Darius in a low threatening tone.
"Get that woman by yourself and be prepared for the consequences of what you did today," said Vivienne.
She would not allow Darius to get away with this.
Darius smiled. It amused him when Vivienne thought she could do something to him. "You have killed many women I cared for. Consider this my revenge. She was good," he threw the comment simply to upset Vivienne.
As angry as Vivienne was, she knew she couldn’t harm the king. Not when the court and all the families wanted to be on his good side. Darius knew she would be angry now but leave him be later.
To his surprise, Vivienne slapped him again but this time as she pulled back, she dug her nails into his cheek to create long scratches which bled. Vivienne wanted it to be there forever to remind him of what she did but the wounds started to heal as quickly as she made them.
Darius grabbed her hand once again. This time, he wanted to break it but he couldn’t. Like Vivienne could not hurt him, Darius could not hurt her. She was the one the elders and all the families wanted to have the next king.
Darius released her hand, deciding to let what she did slide for now. "I suggest you do not raise your hand to me again or I have her as I like while you are forced to watch. It is now the king’s order that she is not to leave the palace. Not until I am through with her or until you have brought me Selene."
"So, decide what you will do. Will you let me have your maid or Selene? Regardless of what you decide, I will have fun. Do not be late to our chambers since you still have to fulfil to carry my son," said Darius.
Darius proceeded to exit the room before Vivienne could attack him again. He already got what he came for which was her maid. It didn’t satisfy him one bit since all he could think of was Selene. He wouldn’t be satisfied until he got what Xavier had.
Darius needed his answers to what was so special about Selene to make Xavier get married now when it wasn’t long ago there was talk of Xavier going to sleep.
Darius wanted Selene.
He needed her more than he needed Vivienne.
Selene was far more special since she was the one Xavier decided to marry.
The rumours of Selene’s family having a special talent came to mind now. Had he calmed himself down back then and taken notice of Selene when she visited the court with her parents, he would have had her in the palace already.
Surely if there was a family with talents no other family had, it was only fair for the king to have a child with a woman from that family. He wanted it done before Xavier had the chance to have a child with Selene,
Darius stopped to laugh at the thought of him and Xavier having children from the same woman. It would upset Xavier for years to come and tie them together. What better way to have some influence on Xavier than by having one of his children be a sibling to Xavier’s child?
Darius never thought a day like this would come. Now that Selene seemed more useful in getting under Xavier’s skin and she proved to be a weakness for Xavier, Darius started to lose interest in Vivienne, especially after the way she was acting now.
With a new plan in mind, Darius headed toward the court to have them look more into Selene’s family.
Inside the room, Vivienne sat down on the bed to wait for when Theresa would wake. She didn’t know what to do with Theresa once she woke up. Should she sneak her out of the palace or kill her as Darus suggested?
It would be troublesome if this one incident were to result in a child. It couldn’t happen now when Vivienne planned to birth the next king she could control.
Was death better than Theresa having to remember the pain Darius caused her?
Vivienne didn’t want to hurt Theresa but at the same time, she couldn’t have Darius use Theresa as a weakness. It was a difficult position to be in.
Since Vivienne felt she owed Theresa, she remained by Theresa’s side until she opened her eyes. It was the least she could do.
"My queen," Theresa greeted Vivienne as she tried to sit up.
"Stay still. You are not in any position to move. I am sorry for what my husband did to you. I know you did not seduce him and you did not deserve this," Vivienne said, clutching her dress as she spoke since she came to a decision.
Theresa laid back down and stared at the ceiling above them. "I am sorry you must cry for me."
After a moment of silence, Theresa asked, "Am I going to die like the others?"
It was the king who brought this upon her but it didn’t mean she was free from punishment. She was not the first woman this happened to and she would not be the last.
It was a cruel world for how the king would get away with this and like always, the queen would turn her anger to the women. This time, Theresa was on the other side awaiting what her punishment would be.
"Would it not be better for you if you died? You wouldn’t have to think about this," Vivienne said, trying to let Theresa be the one to say it.
"I have endured many things and I could survive this but if you are seeking that I decide it is right for me to die, then so be it. I have been by your side long enough to know someone else would kill me in place of you. I am sorry for what has happened," Theresa apologised.
"I only ask that you do not decorate the palace walls with my head," Theresa requested. She was not one of the women who deserved to be displayed there.
"I will not,’ Vivienne promised.
