Chapter 130: A new friend (3)

"Why are you so tense? Are you like this when your maids dress you? You don’t have anything I don’t have and while you are a beautiful woman, you are not the type I would leave my husband for. So, relax," Francesca encouraged Selene.

"I came to enjoy a day with you, not to try on something to seduce my husband with. It is my guard who is interested in what you sell. Why don’t you turn your attention to him?" Selene asked.

"Because he’s not the one afraid of picking out something. I’m trying to be a good friend here and I believe, one day you might thank me for what I am giving you now. You might become a good customer to me or maybe your husband will," Francesca said, looking forward to their next visit.

Selene looked over her shoulder as Francesca tried to fix her dress. "You have men come here?"

"All the time. They come to pick out what they want to see their lovers in. Other times, my workers will go to homes for private fittings. There are all kinds of things here to make your intimacy better. Business is wonderful for me. I’ve even opened my doors to humans," said Francesca.

Francesca continued, "They have been well-behaved when they enter. As long as I don’t scare them, they like coming here. I hope it doesn’t change with all the attacks I am hearing about from my husband. I don’t want to lose any kind of customers."

"So, more people are learning about the attacks. The palace should do something about it before everyone starts to panic," said Selene.

What was Darius waiting for? Did he want a war to start here in the kingdom?

"I also hope something is done quickly since I don’t want it to get to a point where we must defend our homes. I wish to stay out of wars and I don’t want my husband having to go help the king. This kingdom may fall if the royals find more importance in mistresses than the attacks. Done," Francesca said, going around Selene to see the front.

Selene looked down to inspect the front of the dress. "Must it be so exposed?"

"It must," Francesca replied. "Trust me since I have used these dresses myself. Wear this around him and he will be the one weak. I have the feeling you are the kind who prefers it to only happen in your bedroom. You are!"

"I am not," Selene said, covering her chest at the same time.

"Perhaps you could teach me to be a proper lady and I could teach you to be improper. I’m sure our husbands would enjoy the shocking change. These desires are part of our nature, Selene. Do not run away from them. I beg you," Francesca pleaded.

"It is starting to feel like you were sent to me by my husband so he could benefit from this. I truly do not need any help with this but thank you."

Francesca saw right through Selene. "You want to get back into your dress."

"Very much so," Selene replied.

"I will help you but you must take what I give you and promise not to pass it on to someone else. I will think our friendship is off to a bad start if you give away my gift. If the dresses do not interest you then there are books sold in the night market. I like to flip it open to a random page and enjoy the night."

"There is no question that you have a lot of fun. You are the perfect one to run this shop. I’m sure you do well at finding what anyone needs. For me, there is nothing I need help with concerning my husband. We are both understanding what we like so it is too soon for all of this," said Selene.

Francesca thought differently but since she knew Selene would be back, she wouldn’t push it anymore. It would only take Selene using what was given to her today once for Selene to have more interest in it.

Francesca helped Selene to get changed back into the dress she came in. "Do you have a personal dressmaker?"

"I do not. My husband had given me some dresses and I picked a few out the last time I was here. I do plan to find a dressmaker who makes what suits me but it will take some time," Selene replied, putting it on the list of things she needed to do.

Selene needed someone she could trust to enter the estate or when she visited the market, there wouldn’t be any surprises.

Francesca realised one problem Selene would face. "Most of the good dressmakers are taken. While they won’t like to get on Lord Blackthorn’s bad side, they will not want to lose the other women who will not be fond of you. It would be best for you to find someone who is talented but doesn’t have any of the other ladies as their customers."

"I have thought of doing that or simply coming to town when I need a new dress. I will figure it out. Luckily, I don’t have anywhere to go so I don’t need a new dress soon," Selene said, not worried about it.

"That’s not true. I am inviting you and Lord Blackthorn to my home the night after the ball. I can tell you all that happened at the ball and the best part is, I will be in control as the host so no royals will be allowed. Will you come?" Francesca asked, hoping Selene would. "I will invite other ladies you can trust."

"I would love to. I’m sure there is much I will need to know about the ball. The years that I attended were filled with scandals. I wonder what it will be this year," said Selene.

Selene didn’t need to worry about it concerning her or Xavier since they would not be attending. Knowing more about the king’s ways and how the queen was against her, it would not be a wise decision to go near the palace.

"I want to see if the king has selected his first mistress. The ball is meant to celebrate the soldiers’ victory but I can see attention being mostly on the king. There is too much drama for me to stay home so I will be your eyes and ears. Will you at least attend the ball held for members of the five families?" Francesca wondered. "This year it is to be held by the Blackthorns."

Selene might be able to avoid the invitation to the palace but Francesca doubted she could escape the ball the five families held each year when they came from all around the kingdom to attend. It would be hard to stay away when the Blackthorns were doing it.

"Oh, I forgot about that. I didn’t hear my husband mention it so it didn’t cross my mind. I do not know if we will be attending. I will leave it up to him," Selene decided.

Only Xavier would know best if it was safe for her to attend.

"If you do go, I will be there. Being a pureblood guarantees me an invite. We have so much to talk about so let me find us some chairs and something to drink. While we speak, I will have them pack what suits you," Francesca said, refusing to give up on convincing Selene to seduce Xavier.

Selene sighed, giving up since Francesca was so adamant. All she could do was say thank you and then hide what was given somewhere in the estate.
