Chapter 126: Rightful owner (1)

Paige made her way outside to search for a way to get home. The servants were all busy trying to get out of the way so they wouldn’t feel Lord Blackthorn’s wrath and worrying about whether they would have a job tomorrow.

"Paige."

The sight of Trevor angered Paige. His mother could lie to her but not Trevor. He was meant to be honest as her husband.

"Why didn’t you tell me of Lord Blackthorn’s last visit? I am always honest with you and in return, I was blindsided by you and your mother. Now I question what the rest of your family said to me. I do not trust you well enough to continue to be your wife. The ring is inside so I suggest you move fast before they toss it out," Paige advised Trevor.

"What?" Trevor replied, confused as to why their marriage had come to this. "I didn’t lie to you. I just didn’t tell you because it meant nothing. My mother had me convinced that this was my home. It is easy for Lord Blackthorn to have forged his letter to please Selene."

Paige looked over her shoulder at the very man Trevor spoke of. Xavier did have the power to do so but she doubted this was the case. Ruby’s reaction told her exactly what happened. "I don’t need a man who’s going to follow everything his mother tells him. If I could see through her plans quickly, you should have too but you were in on it."

"Wait," Trevor grabbed Paige’s head. The pain Xavier created still lingered but he could manage it while speaking to his wife.

Paige looked ahead of Trevor to the carriage where Selene sat. She pulled her hand away from his hold and started to make her way to the carriage.

As soon as Paige started walking toward the carriage, she felt someone else near her and knew it was Xavier. Why couldn’t she be fortunate to have a man be so quick to defend her? Instead, she was married to a man who couldn’t say no to his mother and his head was bloody, most likely from losing a fight.

"I am not going to harm your wife, Lord Blackthorn. I truly believed this was my home so I want to apologise for being where I did not belong," said Paige.

Paige wanted to leave this home knowing neither she nor her family had become enemies of Xavier. It was not a fight they could win nor one they wanted any part of from the beginning.

"Apologise? Are you out of your mind Paige?" Trevor questioned, not believing she would apologise to Selene.

Paige turned around to face Xavier. From this angle, Paige saw the blood on the wall by the door and knew how Trevor busted his head. "Lord Blackthorn, I would not be against you hitting his head against the wall to the point he might not heal. Do not follow me, Trevor."

Paige continued on her way to the carriage.

Xavier didn’t bother to finish off Trevor since Paige’s father was going to do it for him. He remembered well who her father was. Ruby was the one Xavier planned to steal away since she was the one who plotted all of this. He couldn’t leave Ruby be for her to bother Selene again.

Xavier grabbed Trevor’s shirt when he tried to follow Paige. "Your head is healing up quite nicely. Should I crack your head open again to see how long it takes to heal?"

Trevor stepped away from Xavier. He had heard many things about Xavier but one thing he confirmed today was Xavier being a monster. How was it he could not move his body? It had to be something Xavier did to him. Selene went and got herself married to a beast.

Xavier could see Trevor finally using his head but at the wrong time. He was going to leave Trevor to Paige’s father but since Trevor might be a little mouthy with his secret, Trevor had to join his mother.

When Paige neared the carriage, Selene opened the door so they could speak face to face.

"I am angry with what happened today. I did not think I would ever face losing a home but right is right. It doesn’t belong to my husband and he is the one I am angry with. You have my word that I will not fight you on this. I cannot say the same for them," Paige said, glancing at Trevor speaking with Xavier.

Ruby and Trevor would never give up.

"You were never the one I had trouble with since we never spoke. My other relatives didn’t care who the home went to since they all came to get what they could for themselves. I’m sure they didn’t tell you the truth. As long as you keep your promise to leave us, we will not come after you," Selene promised.

"I will keep it since I cannot have someone from that family after me. You must know, I have believed what was said about your parents so I made Trevor promise to get rid of what belonged to them. Ruby was the one who offered to wipe the home clean of old items. I do not know where your things are," said Paige.

Paige needed it known how clean her hands were.

"I know. She will know where their things are. Since you have been polite with all of this, I will have them neatly set your things to the side and reach out to know where they could send them. I would let you stay now to finish packing but I’m sure you want to get away from them," Selene said since she would not want to stay if she were in Paige’s shoes.

’I must go," Paige agreed. She was not in the mood to have Trevor beg her to stay. If she remained here then she might hit Trevor’s head against the wall till the point it would take weeks to heal.

"I do not understand how you fell in love with Trevor," Selene said, not seeing how the pair matched. Paige was a sensible woman who did not misdirect her anger while Trevor needed his mother to think.

"I am questioning it now. It might have been Ruby who plotted well to have me fall in love with her son. It annoys me to say I truly loved him. Excuse me, Lady Blackthorn. I must find a good bottle of wine to drink until I feel nothing," Paige said, annoyed she had fallen into this trap.

Selene watched as Paige walked off, leaving without a carriage. It was dangerous because of the attacks but she had a feeling nothing could stop Paige from walking.

Selene’s attention went to the sounds of Ruby screaming. Turning to the door, Selene witnessed Xavier’s guards carrying Ruby outside. It was bound to happen since Ruby would never willingly leave the home.

As expected, Trevor rushed to his mother’s side only to be grabbed and escorted out the gates.

Selene closed the carriage door as the coachman prepared to take the carriage through the gates which were to be closed to keep unwanted guests out. After more than a year of trying, those who did not belong were gone.
