In the late night hours, Vivienne sat up from the bed she had been lying on. She was annoyed by what she had to endure tonight to please their families. She hoped it was only this one night that she needed to become pregnant with a king and not another. She could not take another day lying with Darius after knowing how many he gave himself to.

Vivienne walked away from the bed where Darius still laid. She desperately needed to scrub her skin to get rid of his touch.

Darius laid peacefully while she was wide awake trying to forget their intimacy. It was always only fun for him since he focused on pleasing himself. For a man who slept around so often, Vivienne found it strange he was so terrible but then again, others would put up with it to find their way into the palace.

If the guards would listen to her, Vivienne would have them lift Darius out of her room and take him to his room but they would be too afraid.

She sat down to fix her appearance and to clear her mind. The events of the gathering had not left her mind. ’I need a new plan,’ she thought.

After Xavier’s threat today, Vivienne knew she couldn’t be seen when the other ladies would oust Selene. She was angry with his choice but Vivienne didn’t want to stop being friends with Xavier. She wanted to see him more often and hopefully, convince him to help her find a way to get away from Darius.

’The princess,’ Vivienne thought of the heartbroken young woman.

The princess was not over her failed engagement and was most likely more upset than anyone about Xavier’s marriage. The princess was never one to think about her actions since she believed being a royal made her untouchable.

It had been frustrating at first for Vivienne to get used to the idea of Xavier marrying the princess but now it would be quite useful. Xavier would go after the princess for targeting Selene but it would be Vivienne in the background helping Selene’s fall.

Vivienne smiled since the solution to her problems was here. There were also plenty of other women from good families who had their eyes set on Xavier. Selene didn’t know what she got herself into.

From tomorrow, it would be known that Selene had not found a place in this town. Every lady with status should think twice about being seen with her.

"It would be interesting if that human rose above her," Vivienne said, thinking of the woman who replaced Selene as the hero’s wife.

Vivienne didn’t have any plans to keep Cassandra at her side but she could pull strings to have Cassandra rise among the human women. If Cassandra was desperate for status and wealth like Gabriel then Vivienne could certainly push Cassandra to target Selene.

"It will be a good day," Vivienne said, her mood suddenly better. "Isn’t it about time you get out of my bed? I have done enough."

Darius opened his eyes, revealing he had been awake. "You certainly did enough which is why I am still here. I find it hard to move. Perhaps I should consider moving my things here."

Vivienne did not like the sound of that. "No, you will not. From the beginning, we agreed not to share a space. It will not start now that you are bringing women into the palace."

Darius sighed. He would like to go into a conversation without Vivienne bringing that up. He was kind enough to warn her that there would be others coming but she was not grateful. Vivienne had yet to realise that he didn’t need to inform her.

"If I mention that I want to come back here to be with you every night, no one would be against it. Even your father would come to get you to behave. You make things too difficult-"

’Then allow me to have lovers and see how you feel," Vivienne suggested.

Darius sat up, angry with her suggestion. If it was anyone else who said it he would snap their neck but he couldn’t with Vivienne. "It is not the same for you. You can’t become pregnant with another man’s child."

"Oh please. You should be an expert in knowing how to get rid of an unwanted baby," said Vivienne.

"I never had to get rid of them since my wife likes to behead the women I fancy. Don’t think about getting a lover, Vivienne. I am all you need. We can’t have you waste time carrying another man’s child when you need to be busy trying to have a son. Out of all those women, you are the only one I love," Darius said to bring her some comfort.

Vivienne didn’t care for being his favourite. "You are a very special kind of man and I have no interest in changing you anymore but I also won’t love you. Please get out of my bed and place yourself elsewhere. I shall keep in mind that I shouldn’t give my body to another man but the same cannot be said for my heart."

Darius needed Vivienne to stop since she was playing a dangerous game here. "You shouldn’t say something like that again."

"Why not? Is it only you who can be reckless with what you say? I am only trying to match my husband. I don’t have your heart so it is only fair that you do not have mine. I won’t question you about the women you will bring. Have them," Vivienne decided to go along with it. "Once we have the son everyone wants then my body won’t belong to you."

"You are so desperate to have a lover to get back at me?" Darius laughed.

"No," Vivienne shook her head. ’I want to have a man around who is worth my time. It is not uncommon for the queen to have lovers. I made the mistake of not getting our son out of the way. I will not have three men to say I am competing with you but two will suffice. I want to feel the excitement."

"Vivienne," Darius said in a warning tone. "Do not speak of this."

"Others might have filled your head but we are equal, Darius. Our families stand side by side or like others say, have you convinced yourself you are the most important man in the kingdom? The five families are all royals. Your family simply wanted to be the ones to be the face of the kingdom," Vivienne reminded Darius.

It took some time since she always allowed Darius to do as he pleased but Vivienne could not go on with Darius acting like he was above her.

"Just as you worry about your bloodline, I must think about mine. There are men with extraordinary power my family could benefit from. Thank you for the idea," Vivienne said, knowing it would grow his anger.

It was time Darius felt what she felt and with how well she knew him, Darius wouldn’t take Vivienne having lovers better than she did with him.

Vivienne couldn’t take much more of Darius being in her presence. "You should retire elsewhere for the night and then tomorrow, I might consider us having a small moment to try for a child. I would like it over quickly so you may get back to doing what you truly love. Other women."

"You have lost your mind," Darius said, his hands closed into a ball as he held back his anger. He proceeded to leave the room but this talk was done here.
